  1. So just to be clear this altorfer deo 15w40 oil is made for cat engines, does anyone see a problem running this oil in cummins? It does says cummins ces 20081 on the label. But is this the right code for our engine? At $12 a gallon seems like a good deal considering it has more zink in it then amsoil, Dello, rotella and valvoline. I know zink isn't the only thing to focus on in oil. Also it does have 12 tbn. I know few of you guys just don't seem to care what you run as long as it's cheap and says cj4 and meets or exceeds previous oils. I just want to be safe rather then sorry.
  2. You know you right they don't say highest it just says high 12tbn so here we go with assumptions again, sorry for miss leading on that.
  3. Yon know from what amsoil advertises that they have highest tbn of 12, that is not so in this test, unless people that did it are making it up for some reason. When I dropped this sample off I dint tell them that it's the oil I just bought from them. As far as they know it could be anything. Also 1500 ppm of zink is pretty good too.
  4. Looks pretty good to me 1275 ppm phosporus, 1500 zink, 12.4 tbn. $59 for 5 gallons. Might be my new oil. Now just got to find better price on by pass filters. What gets me is tan 2.76 and that it's marginal and needs to be monitored. It's brand new oil!
  5. ok, here is test results for brand new unused cat 15w40 ci4 oil
  6. Just ordered a case of 12 donaldson from eBay for 146 shipped. Should last me 8-10 years. That's less then 13 a filter. Still no results on cat oil.
  7. Make sure to put 7qts of oil when done,a few of them fail from lack of oil. Fill plug is too low on 5600 got to take shifter off and fill from top. Pens oil sincromesh works fine.
  8. I thought bypass filters don't have a bypass valve and when they plug they stop flowing. I heard somebody put 50k on one before it stopped flowing I just wasn't sure if it was done in one year or it took several.
  9. So has anybody ran bypass filters longer then a year, regardless of milage? Do you change them when they stop flowing or once a year?
  10. This is our boat not as big but we went a few places. Pulls no problem.
  11. They made it sound like it was the way to get around amsoil fitting, marketing trick. I guess if you had 3/4 thread and wanted to go to 1" that adapter would work. P.s. It's not a good quality adapter ether, cheaseled looking. Guess I'm stuck buying EABP for now, if I don't put a lot of miles do i need to change it every year or can I go three years as long as it's still flowing. Guy at amsoil said I shouldn't go past two years because media and glue can go bad.
  12. I bet if I painted my tuck that is exactly the result I would see. Story of my life.
  13. You can order the whole kit, but when you take that solenoid apart you'll see that contacts are probably gone. And rest still looks good. Next time all you'll need is contact kit and what's left over from the whole kit to do a complete rebuilt.
  14. I got my contact kit from gould gear came with plunger and bigger contacts, he said that to about 350 k is all you should need, not even bearings. Contacts and plunger is what usually wears out few times first before the whole thing needs to be overhauled.
  15. What is the size of the thread of bypass on amsoil ? I'll go see what I got. Just measured it, it looks like 3/4 to 1" editing again looks like I got crewed a bit by ebay, according to amsoil it's 1 by 1/16 so adapter I got won't work. Donaldson needs to make filter that fits this thing.
  16. I did more reading on adding zddp plus to oils and this one guy claims it makes it worse, so maybe not a good idea. Seems like half say add it to cj4 and the other half says don't. So if this ci4plus turns out to have good data from oil analises I'm just going to go and buy 5 or so 5 gallon buckets of it and it will last me at least 5 years.
  17. Wow you guys been busy, so DBL7349 is same as EA080 from amsoil? What about LF16035 fleet guard for full flow or LF9028 as full flow with bypass built in to it? And is there any other good buy pass filters that can go on same place as EABP filters from amsoil? I got a thread adapter from ebay that makes it bigger not sure how much. Also I got some oil from cat today in 5gallon bucket and they do oil sampling so I opened it up and took a fresh oil sample to see what it had in it for real numbers. I'll post results later when I get it.
  18. Talked with cat dealer they got ci-4 plus mobil delvac made for cat 13.65 a gallon. Or 58.30 for 5 gallons. Might be going this rout. He said they use it on all generators that don't have dpf. And the ones that do they use cj-4. They woldnt tell me zink level but said that it had 12tbn.
  19. Just talked with ams oil and their 15-40 diesel and marine oil (ame) has 1400 ppm of zink, cj-4 rotella has 1200, cj-4 delo 400le has 1300 (some privet study shows 1100), valvoline premium blue has1200. I'm thinking about using premium blue cj-4 with zddp plus.
  20. I think generic stuff you should be able to get at any parts store like stp or lucas maybe and better stuff got to order it. Not sure I never bought any myself yet.
  21. I'm with you on that one, have you tryed adding zddp to it and see if it helps. Be interesting to find out.
  22. Coul it be cause they want to sell us more parts? I thought 1st and 2nd gens oil stayed cleaner longer and 3rd and 4th got dirty quick from egr crap, I know it don't mean you need to change it when it gets black but I would think if engine keeps oil clean longer, should last longer.
  23. What kind of difference are you talking about? Is it sound or wear from sample analyses.
  24. What brand of zddp do you put in your oil and how much, Thanks.
