The Future of Trucks
Agreed Hawkez, but who determines whats an appropriate "fair share". I'm self employed so I pay almost 50% of my income in taxes. Is 50% enough of my money or do the legislators need 60% - 75%...of my livelihood? And short term memory loss seems to be the demise of voters too since everyone has a hard time remember the last time you voted in new taxes to fix the roads, increase police security, hire more firemen for your safety, etc, etc... But every couple election cycles, low and behold, there's more propositions to further raise your social service taxes in order to pay for the very things you voted to fix last time...and the time before that. Even though they're still not fixed. Is anyone OK with this??? Sorry but I'm done paying my fair share. I want the taxes I already shell out to cover the services we already agreed to. If they dont have enough money then how about they stop giving illegals free stuff and cut off the welfare give away programs for those who dont care to work for anything.

Dual Disk Upgrade clutch fork question
If the problem with quality control is lower strength and/or function then thats an issue I would definitely have a problem with. But if your concern is aesthetical then sorry but no one is going to help. Best solution to that problem is fix it up yourself and repaint it.....but we are talking about a part which sits hidden and covered in clutch dust its entire life.

The Future of Trucks
They already have... Its called "taxed per mile", and they're already running test programs in CA before attempting to push it through. Yes, imagine that, environmentalism emissions force regulations which demand higher fuel mileage out of vehicles. Environmentalism also claims that EV's are the better future because they dont use carbon fuels. Well at least not at the pump... Maybe to assemble, mine, manufacture, etc... But just not at the pump. This all means people are going to be using less fuel... So how does the government get their fuel tax money? Well they fix the problem by charging a tax on the mileage you drive. The problem they're going to run into though is how will they monitor your mileage. Will they rely on your "honesty" or will they require cars in the future to be "smart" giving a third party the ability to monitor. This is also a problem as older cars wont have any any such technology. Again, creating cars which keep you keeping up with the Jones's is critical in making sure we all look to the future for our goodies. I'll just stop there.....but do understand that your legislators (ALL LEGISLATORS) are always looking for ways to get your money. And if CA implements a tax per mile program due to the influx of EV's then you can bet your sweet pants that other states will be quick to follow.

24 Valve ECM overheating?
Is the FASS wired in using the FASS wire loom and relay? I would guess yes since I didnt think FASS sold them without that loom. And if the relay is in place then you're loosing the fuel pump "ON" signal. You can wire to a keyed source but you'll loose the prime feature. But I am questioning the trans cooler fan. What is it and how you have that wired? The ECM should have nothing to do with controlling an aftermarket cooling fan but rather it should be wired to a keyed source and controlled by a thermostat of its own. If it is tied into the ECM somehow then it could be placing way too much amperage load.

Dual Disk Upgrade clutch fork question
Use what Southbend told you to use. If they supplied a new part then they must deem that part necessary because I didnt get a new fork in my single disc clutch kit. If you're still concerned, call them.....

Given how much Colorado is trying to shove an EV into your garage... Its probably payed for by tax dollars.

The Future of Trucks
Another variable (BIG VARIABLE) which no one is talking about is the electrical grid infrastructure. It simply cant handle the number of EV's and has already caused major problems for high density areas. Imagine if everyone today drove home a shiny new EV. The grid system would collapse tomorrow.....

The Future of Trucks
Riddle me this... If EV's are so popular.....then why can you still get credits upward of $10,000+ towards the purchase of a EV??? Again, I'm not being down on EV's but merely excepting the FACTS that they're inconvenient and limited. Otherwise they wouldnt have to give you a third of the car back in credits. They dont save very much either when you calculate the everything involved in owning an EV verses a combustion vehicle, and lets be honest by admitting that the "hype" is whats truly driving (no pun) this whole movement. Again...again, I'm not against EV's but merely stating that me having one would be completely pointless. It would literally serve no purpose except cost me more money because of how my electric bill is calculated. I'd have to make sure that I plugged it in ONLY during the later evening otherwise my gross kW costs would become counterproductive. That said..... Anyone who's actually ridden in a Prius has to admit that its one of the worst experiences ever. The noise of the tiny rear engine constantly cycling to keep up with energy usage is almost comical.

The Future of Trucks
Dont be so quick to judge... Take a look at this other video where they test a Tesla race car GT P100DL. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6nlrmm Also, its important to understand that they reduced the weight of the car by 1000 lbs and the ambient temperatures were in the mid 80's. The driver/reporter was doing his part by giving the car all the props he could by talking it up continuously. But...a couple laps around the track and the brakes were HOT due to insane weight of the batteries, and the car falls into limp mode due to the battery temperature being too hot. This is supposed to be a RACE CAR too.....!!! I'm not down on electric.....but I certainly am not going to ignore the fact that the technology has YEARS to go before it can stand up to the pedestal some people try to hold it up to. Personally I feel that if the "environmental" movement wasn't as strong as it is, I dont think EV technology would be anywhere as far as it is.

I just want to say that there hasn't been a stage of my life where environmentalism hasn't made everything a lot less fun and a lot more expensive.....

The Future of Trucks
"It is based on the Atkinson-cycle engine developed in 1882." So.....the future of diesel is from 136 year old technology? Irony...
-
The Future of Trucks
This has crossed my mind many times over the past few years. I could see why diesel / electric drivetrain systems wouldn't be practical for every day to and from work around town trucks. Too many load variations. But I actually dont understand why it hasn't been implemented yet into the class 8 trucks....

The Future of Trucks
I cant comment on your calculations.....but I have friends/family who've tried (and continue to try) the electric car hype. After sitting down and crunching hard numbers involving fuel costs, electricity bills, charge times, tires, overall wear and tear, etc... The figures concluded that their electric cars were about equivalent to driving a 60-70 mpg car. Thats a good thing yes, but just noting that of the few cars we were using in those calculations, one of them was too small to take their family anywhere, and the other had a distance range low enough that it kept them from taking it anywhere but to and from work. Most people cant afford specialty vehicles. Most people use their one or two vehicles for everything they do... I remember when crew cab trucks became immensely popular back in the late 80's early 90's. And...the main reason they became so popular was because people were wanting "versatility". A vehicle roomy enough that they could take the kids to school, get groceries, go to work, take on vacation, throw the dogs in the back, and still pull the family boat to the lake. People still want that too which is why Ford is no longer making passenger "cars" other than the Mustang.

The Future of Trucks
There are many many reasons I think electric vehicles are a phase. No pun... Environmentalism is acting like electric vehicles are superior to combustion engines but in reality they're overly complicated and problematic and come with their own fair share of issues just like any other propulsion system. Plus, its asinine to believe electric vehicles will ever save the world from carbon fuel when things like trains, ships, and airplanes, etc... will run the status quo probably forever. Yeah, the same jumbo jet airliner which burns 1 gallon of fuel ever SECOND, and the same tanker ship which burns about 1 gallon of fuel EVERY 30 FEET while crossing the ocean...!!! So please, tell me again how electric cars are going to save us? LOL... I'm also not ignorant enough to think that electric motors wont likely remain a contestant in the auto industry for many years, but to insinuate everything else will fade away as electric motors dominate is completely overlooking all other variables in an economic aspect, and money driven world. Remember, even though liberalism will try to say otherwise, the globe isnt run with Star Trek socialism. People still do things to make money.

Should I clear coat my fog lights?
Its the conversion part of this whole issue... I wouldnt mine installing different fog lights (as you've seen in my thread) but hacking things up just to get something under there is not high on my want to do list. The factory fog lights aren't great but they do help. All I want is them to be a little brighter. I've looked for new assemblys... Dont exist. Apparently there's not enough Sport trucks out there to justify the aftermarket world caring. I've also looked for LED bulbs... Seeminly nothings available that isnt either outrageously expensive or is unknown if it will even fit or work after you cut and splice wiring. Seriously...who has time for this kinda stuff.

Sounds like the wrong bulb was installed at some point. I've seen some various plastic lenses distort when subject to both sun and a running hot bulb, but never hot enough to cause neighboring damage. Thats HOT.

LED fog light assembly for Sport trucks???
Has anyone with factory fog lights on their Sport truck ever installed those aftermarket LED light assembly's? I can find some for the non-Sport trucks but nothing for the Sport trucks. (different mounts and assembly) At this point I'm simply looking for suggestions.....but not interesting is hacking things up under the bumper either. So its gotta fit.

I Thought the Truck Looked Crooked From the Rear
Ben, it took me a few seconds to process what I was looking at in that picture. I first thought, why does he have old leather wrapped around the springs... I think the auto manufacturing must contract with the salt/calcium chloride companies to ensure job security.

Should I clear coat my fog lights?
Waxing them helps after polishing. I polished and waxed my headlights (Sport version) for years until I recently picked up some replacements. It seemed they'd stay pretty clear for about two years or so but would eventually get that yellowish line on the top side so I just got bored of messing. I'm wanting to replace my fog lights too but again, I have the Sport truck and fog light options for the Sports are far and few. All kinds of options for the non-sport trucks. And Mike, the fogs are only 38 watts. I wish they were 55 watts each. That would be nice.

Map Light Repair & LED Lights for the interior
Except their cost. Its insulting to me that someone thinks I'd pay so much for an LED bulb. I was kinda hoping that they'd get more reasonable in pricing by now but seemingly people are still gobbling them up at their high prices. And LED's for residential lighting are strangely hit and miss. Some work, some dont. I installed some for my daughters ceiling fan the other day and they flickered bad enough to give you epilepsy. Replaced with CFL bulbs and perfect. Also, I'm not sure sure why people who camp at public camping facilities would ever bother to convert their RV/trailer to LED. It'll cost you a couple hundred bucks at least..........and then you're going to plug into the camp outlet??? If you're boondocking then I could definitely understand, but even at that you only need a couple LED bulbs since there's no reason to turn on every light when you're out in the middle of nowhere. Ah...just a little soapbox ranting.
