New NV4500 Probelms
Who are the tranny builders? Did the shop have anything to do with this other than installation? What do you mean "hang" in gear? Are you saying it wont pull out of gear? The shifting issue from 3rd to 4th isnt right because thats probably the smoothest gear change in this transmission. Forcing is NOT what you want to do because you'll just destroy synchro components.

Morning Pic For Today...........Post A Pic around your place.....
Yes, CAL Fire is a joke... The money they get annually is insane, the things they do with their equipment is ludicrous, and their process of fighting fires takes forever...seemingly intentionally. CA spends massive amounts of money on CAL Fire paychecks. I know people who are CAL Fire workers and if there's no fires in California they're freaking out from the loss of overtime income. They literally base their annually salary on overtime wages. And coincidentally.....there is ALWAYS a massive forest fire in the north state, if not many every year. And they seemingly have all insight reasons of how they started too. Lighting, cigarette, weed eaters, squirrels roasting nuts... etc. Even if there's hardly ever lighting up here and no roads where the fires are. Cant speak for the squirrels though... Oh and...when their fire fighting task is over, they simply dig gigantic holes and bury all their shovels and chainsaws and other tools. Otherwise they have to take it back with them and they wont get the state funds for new equipment. Kinda depressing that this is how our tax dollars are spent. This isnt even discussing the tax dollars spent to pay people for their equipment which sits idle on trailers every year during the fire seasons, just incase they need their added help over and above what CAL Fire is doing. And the $1500 a month payment these people get come from a list which you have to know someone to get on too... But hey...I dont want to turn this good thread of beautiful pictures into a political bash session.

Without a doubt, you're a freaking saint...!

I can see!!!
Then who have you been taking to the hospital all this time? Again, I was under the impression that person was your wife. I apologize if I was wrong. Maybe I DO need glasses.....

I can see!!!
I thought Moparmom was your wife... Who's who here.

I can see!!!
Oh I know you were just poking... I wasnt serious or offended either. We're all getting old and making light of it with others getting old too sorta makes it less crappy.

I can see!!!
Dont be so judgemental... We all have our own ways of denying the fact that time is creeping up on us.

I'm not getting glasses until my arms arent long enough to hold stuff far enough away.

2nd gen engine cooling
First off, I can guarantee that your 37' toy hauler is heavier than 9000 lbs. Probably more like 11k - 12k unloaded...and then add a couple more thousand pounds for all your stuff/water. I cant speak for the high flow water pump, but given that the Cummins cooling system is already pretty aggressive as coolant pressure can builds upwards over 70+ psi at the back of the block at upper rpms, I cant see where a high flow water pump would offer any benefit other than to create more coolant flow problems. Not sure... And as Mike pointed out, EGT's play a huge role in engine temps. If you hold the EGT's around 1000* - 1100* then the engine temp will stay well within the normal range. But push EGT's over 1100* and your engine temperature will definitely climb to uncomfortable levels. Lastly, yes, your tire size isnt helping with a trailer that heavy. Oh, and are you absolutely positive the radiator is clean?

4x4 Actuator
The 4wd indicator switch for the bulb is nothing but a contact switch, nothing complicated. If there's trouble with the light not working correctly then make sure the wiring is fine and there no corrosion. If the switch and wiring check out with a tester then its likely something worn in the CAD housing itself. Lots of people like to place blame on the vacuum part of the CAD system but they overlook the fact that if the collar or axle bushing wears out then engagement and disengagement will be a problem. Converting to a cable system only masks this.

Bouncing Around
Good to know... And yes, they're still working as they did the day I installed them.

Bouncing Around
Years ago I met someone who tried the Monroe Reflex shocks on their Dodge Cummins. They said those shocks were too lightweight wouldn't last on their truck. Guessing that the weight of the Cummins is too much for any shocks that arent more HD.

Bouncing Around
Rancho is a good company, but just like most manufactures, they do offer a wide range of quality. I've used their 5000 series before and they're definitely nothing special. Matter of fact, they're kinda the soft run of the mill shock absorber thats just about the same as all the other "off road" versions of what every other shock absorber company puts out. When I replaced the factory shocks on my Dodge I heard good things about Bilsteins so thats what I went looking for, except no place had them local. One store had KYB Monomax's and sold me on how they were a direct copy of the Bilstein and the same exact design, just different color. I was eager to try them only to discover that they were HORRIBLE. I've never felt a vehicle ride so stiff before. After about 500-1000 miles I couldnt take it any more and took them back. I had them give me a set of Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks because I was afraid to try the Bilsteins if they were anything like those Monomax's. I've had those same Rancho 9000's on my truck for around ten years and they work great. I run them fairly stiff in the front due to the engine weight, and soft in the back when unloaded. When I hook up my heavy 5th wheel trailer I set the rears stiff to accommodate the increased weight. No bounce. Whenever these wear out I'll be getting another set of 9000's.

Why I want to keep my 2nd gen.
I use a rental car a few times a year for work. I'm amazed how the base/mid-level cars of today are fitted with all the top gadgets, and more, than what was available on the premium model vehicles from only five years ago. I consider myself a pretty techy person too who's fairly in touch with current day electronics.....but sometimes it takes me awhile to even figure out the computer like process of doing simple things like changing the radio station on these new cars.

Does your CRD stand for Chronic Respiratory Disease.....or Cant Remember D***? Because I know I suffer from the second one.

- REAR Vibration
If this vibration is NOT "harmonic" and you're certain its tire/wheel speed related then what you can do is set the truck up on rear jack stands. With someone in the cab at all times for emergency situations, start the engine and run it in gear while you watch the driveline and tire rotation. You dont have to spin up the tires very fast either and you'd be amazed what you could see moving about. The tires may be out of round or separating internally or externally and you're unaware. Or rims not straight, drive line bent, lugs off center...etc. Its definitely worth trying if you've exhausted everything else. I had a RV trailer axle hub with lugs mounted off center from the factory. I actually took a video of it spinning so people would believe me too. Had to buy a new hub...- Floating Gears
My apologies CUMMINSDIESELPWR.....- 4x4 Actuator
The CAD system is very simple in function and action. Here's a link to help you diagnose... http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/4X4/4x4_engagment.htm I think the most common problem causing CAD issues is there's a vacuum problem or vacuum line problem or the axle collar inside the CAD is worn and wont slide properly. One thing I think worth mentioning is that even though the trucks owners manual may state that the CAD 4wd is shift on the fly..... doing so at speed above 5-10 mph can be damaging to the synchro ring inside the transfer case. Shoving it into 4wd at higher road speeds can wear out the synchro which will in turn wear out the slide collar in the CAD. Unlike the full time non-CAD systems, the CAD system is a "part time" 4wd which means the front driveshaft is not spinning at road speeds while in 2wd. So to engage 4wd the transfer case has a synchro ring which acts like a clutch that speeds up the driveshaft to whatever speed the rear driveshaft is spinning. Then when the two driveshafts are speed matched, the left and right front axle shafts are speed matched as well allowing the passenger side split shafts inside the CAD to be connected via the sliding collar.- Floating Gears
Slipping it out of gear and into neutral during no load/neutral power shouldn't be considered "floating gears" as there's no additional contact taking place during that transition.- Turbo blanket?
Looks good. I'm still waiting for mine...- Floating Gears
Floating gears on transmissions such as these is highly ill-advised. Even though you "think" you're closely matching gear/rpm speeds, what you're really doing is prematurely wearing out the blocking ring clutch and soft teeth because you're never as close as you think you are. When transmission rebuilds are in excess of $2000 - $3000...and most replacement parts are only available hecho en China these days... But hey, to each is own. Also, why would you feel that floating gears is going to help limp along a slipping clutch? You're not buying any time by not engaging the clutch in order to shift properly. You're buying time by keeping your foot out of the throttle so the clutch doesn't slip anymore.- Exhaust manifold
The back three cylinders run the hottest due to air flow and coolant restrictions, numbers 5 and 6 specifically. Knowing the exhaust temp of those three is most important.- Exhaust manifold
You could replace a cracked OEM manifold every few months for the price of a stainless. - REAR Vibration
