Replacing headgasket soon...
I sprayed my new gasket with copper spray as well. It took two of us just a few hours. We picked the head up by hand.

Looking for lost MPG
A bad apps sensor will show itself with bad mileage. So will an old injection pump. Try a new apps sensor and I bet your truck speed up a lot and gets better mileage. They only last about 100k miles.

01 24v horrible MPG and no coolant temp?
Maybe you should try 16k lbs then! I bet it gets hotter.

Eratic shifting
What speed exactly? Is it shifting or going in and out of lockup? The later being a very common issue. You might have a bad apps sensor as well. I would try resetting the apps sensor and see if that fixes the problem.

None that I have found. Some cost more than others though.

Why do you need the 1 gallon tank at all?

Going for a full build!
I don't allow the egt's to go over 1200. I downshift when I can't hold OD. I also never go up hills with 30lbs of boost. I like 20.

Is your fan clutch broken? North of 210 isn't right.

Forget the winter front. Tow something heavy!

hx35 because of the exhaust brake. I have a super b sitting on my floor at home.

What Brake Pads are you using? 3500
You can certainly have an exhaust brake with an auto. It will work a little bit without any modification. If you want it to work really well you will need a lockup controller. A lock up controller will keep your converter locked up for specific periods of time. Every controller works a little differently but the gist is they make the truck act like a manual. The automatic version may have a different way to actuate the brake than the manual. As far as I know they can be a little hard on input shafts, iat's, and map's. I used mine for a long time without any problems. The install for a controller will be different for each version. I have an ATS one and I think it was a mild pain to install. I did it myself. If I had to do it over I would get a BD controller.

Going for a full build!
I have 100hp injector a smarty and other assorted stuff. When I had a 1600 stall speed converter I lost all spool between shifts. I got a 200 under converter and I got a lot of the spool back. You should get a hx35 turbo while you are at it as well. You will loose a little spool but you will gain a ton of midrange.

I do not have a cover. I wash the motor all the time. Water will not hurt anything.

Use that one until it gets dirty then get the other. I bet there isn't much of a difference.

Going for a full build!
You might not want that low of a stall. You do want a triple disc. I would not go much lower than 200 under stock or the turbo will not spool well between shifts.

Just removed EGR/EGR COOLER DPF and CAT
What mileage were you getting before? Have you tried towing?

Going for a full build!
I have towed a little bit with an automatic. 6k miles this week so far! I towed a 16k load from NJ to Las Vegas. Then a 12k load to Miami form Las Vegas. I towed in OD the entire time that I could. There were quite a few hills that I had to downshift for. I am happy to share my thoughts.A built trans will probably shift really hard. That will be hard on the hard parts if you are towing heavy. I would tell Stefan you don't want hard shifts. I would also ask what kind of planets they use. Dave G. says to use Chrysler planets because aftermarket planets don't last long. I cannot verify that but Dave G. buys a lot of DTT parts so maybe they will say the same thing.I change my fluid and filter every 30k miles. Every 30k miles! If I buy a used truck I change the fluid right away. I never flush them.Towing in OD with a stock torque converter is not the same thing as towing in OD with a triple disc converter. The stock converter will slip a lot and create a lot of heat. The triple will no slip. Less heat will translate to a longer trans life. If you tow heavy in traffic you need to be careful not to overheat the trans. The cooler lines run through the block so when you are in traffic the fluid will go to the engine temp right away and higher as you stop and go. You can use an exhaust brake with an automatic. You just need a lock up controller. My bottom line with the automatic is that you can certainly tow with them in OD for a long time. I try to keep my fluid clean and my temps down.

That filter is a lot smaller than mine.

Why can't we use them? Are you unfamiliar with a lock up controller?
