  1. haven't messed with it...yet - - - Updated - - - Adjusted TV cable to the tightest position, there's still a little slack with the pedal all the way down (stretched cable?). But, took it for a drive and 1st and 2nd shifts are are around 2000rpm with light throttle, higher than they were before, and tranny holds all the gears longer than before, not complaining. 4th goes in much smoother but I haven't taken her on the highway yet under full throttle. Does that sound right? Thanks MnTom!
  2. 47re troubles: Replaced governor solenoid and sensor and filter last year, did band adjustment, tranny still slams into 4th unless I plan the shift and let off the throttle. Tranny searches between 3rd and 3rd lock-up with OD off going slow on the back roads but shifts strong at throttle. Transmission overdrive & lockup solenoid? Speed sensor too? Something else to replace while I have the pan off?...can't afford a built tranny till at least next year
  3. That's what 1st and 2nd feels like in mine too, till 3rd locks then she takes off, just like you said. But, my tranny is on her way out and she shudders when I lug the engine in low RPMs and slips when I romp on it and slams into 4th if I don't let off the throttle...time for a rebuild
  4. Check #7 fuse. In the cab driver's side
  5. Well, after many frustrating hours and a bent engine hoist extension, replaced the gasket with a fel-pro 1 piece paper gasket, NO RTV. Got her up to operating temperature and no leaks. We'll see how she does after a 40 minute commute tomorrow...
  6. This is why I love this forum! It's always a learning experience. Thanks a lot guys and Michael! - - - Updated - - - Next question, cummins gasket or rtv? Any long-term successes?
  7. Had the truck since January, been using Valvoline 15w-40 dino since, and the oil pan leaks and leaves a couple drops in the driveway everyday, no big deal. Did an oil change in prep for cold weather last week, used Rotella 5w-40 synthetic, and now she leaves puddles. Once winter sets in I plug the truck in at night anyways, so should I switch back to dino or wait it out till I replace the oil pan gasket (unkown date)...I'm dreading pulling the motor mounts and what not.
  8. Bone stock they aren't gutless...but they aren't fast either. 1st and 2nd are really slow (geared for towing). If your TC is slipping your rpms will rise fast and the engine will race without vehicle speed increasing. If you have a stock or original carter pump then it can't handle the fuel delivery needed for 85 mph, or any speed for that matter (carter pumps are only useful as a backup). First diesel?
  9. I switched over from the green stuff to HOAT, the yellow/orange/red stuff, zerex g05 I believe from NAPA. Capacity was roughly 3 gallons of water and 3 gallons of pure coolant, so almost 6 gallons of fluid total with some to spare.
  10. Check out the sticky torque converter lock/unlock issues
  11. Well, tranny started searching for gears again, 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th......so I found one of the negative wires from the back of the alternator rubbing the passenger battery/battery tray, covered the contact area with a rubber hose and now she shifts normal again! Alternator getting/giving noise from the chassis or battery?
  12. X2 on the solenoid and sensor, and adjustment and filter
  13. Haha I see, but for the price I might have to try the newer rancho rs7000 monotube, comes with a 90 day ride warranty.
  14. Good luck with that. I live in the northeast where salt and rust are rancid. The worst part is that it rots from the inside out, NOT surface rust, so it's a cut and weld job to do it right. Hard to tell from the pic though. Hence my southern truck and constant oiling of rockers, inside doors, quarters, bumpers, cab corners etc.
  15. Thanks. I run unloaded 85% of the time...and I really don't want to fork over the extra money for bilsteins or fox or the 9000s if the cheaper 5000s will fit the bill
  16. X2 on checking dry rot on vacuum lines (rubber elbows or 90s) or disconnected lines. I had dry rot and the air system did not work and 4x4 would not work either. Follow line from vacuum pump/power steering pump.
  17. Current shocks are extremely bouncy and shakey on any terrain and need to be replaced. NAPA has Ranchos buy 4 for the price of 3. For a mostly street driven truck, get the Rancho RS5000s? Budget friendly, do the job? Any positive reviews?
  18. Just replaced my worn out steering damper with a genuine MOPAR damper and the MOPAR unit is much beefier than the aftermarket unit (unkown brand). Tube diameter is much bigger and piston rod diameter is much bigger. So far so good.
  19. Mornings are starting to get colder and colder around here. What's the ETA on these?
  20. I have some fluid leaking at the brake pedal and dripping on my husky liners. Coming from the fire wall brake pedal rod? Power steering fluid? Time for a reseal on the hydrobooster?
  21. Fuse #7? Driver's side inside the cab, knee level fuse access? 15 amp I believe
  22. Use a two by four and find an appropriate prying spot - - - Updated - - - or really long two by four and a dead blow hammer from the opposite side of truck
  23. Had the truck since Jan. and it hunted from 3rd to 4th since the get go. Lately it's been hunting from 2nd to 3rd so I just did the alternator fuse test and it actually shifted normally! Anybody know where I can get a replacement diode plate for my Bosch or do I have to buy a new or remanufactured alternator? Thanks - - - Updated - - - Well, NAPA just tested my alternator and it was good, and both batteries, one was fine the other was less than perfect but functional...and this was after my fuse test. Bad ground or connection? Bench test not diagnose diode? - - - Updated - - - I replaced the 140 amp fuse, put electrical tape on that "infamous green wire" from the back of the alternator (at the connection) and made sure there were no exposed wires or metal on metal contact or wire on metal contacts and now she shifts normal?! Who knows
  24. Clean clean clean. With the upgraded fuel system and injectors maybe I got a puff on cold start, but that's it. With the Edge EZ it does puff at cold start then it clears up in seconds. I only get a little smoke when I PURPOSELY lug it in overdrive
