CJ-4 vs CK-4 diesel oil
I'm sure the new oil is fine, they have it in 15/40, 10/30, 5/40 all CK/SN. i stocked up a little on CJ oil. not much and will likely get another 60-100 gallons soon. it's all over locally here, the only CK oil is at Walmart. i'm going to buy some travellers 15/40 for around 38$ a pale. then i have a friend with around 40 gallons of Swepco 15/40 CI oil he's willing to sell me for 10 a gallon. what i might do is 50/50 CK/CJ. maybe that'll help extend things for me. but in all honesty, i don't think the newer oil will hurt any thing if changed when it's should be.

Snap On tools are the best
i had a snapon tool box, with about 45K into it. then i got tired of turning wrenches. sold 90%, haven't wrenched on a chevy sense. some of their tools are awesome, and some are way over priced for what it is. ^^^^ looks like mind did. once.

whitish smoke...
i'd deliver the truck to Mike and pay him to do it, but i think with his obligations to MOparMom, it's not something he can take on right now. i'll keep searching for a competent mechanic.

whitish smoke...
coolant doesn't bubble at idle or at rpm, but I do have a parasitic leak some where. i'v added about 1/2 quart in 12K miles. i'm not sure if it'd be worth it and just pulling the head, and throwing new injectors in. not sure i trust my wrenching abilities in doing so. so it'd be a shop. and so far the 4 i've talked to around here, leave a little to be desired. no straight forward answers. can i do the injectors my self? or do i have to have a shop set the trim codes? NO one can answer that one for me. yet...

whitish smoke...
so my 08 has always puffed a white puff at first start up of the day. kinda looks like an older 350 that has leaking valve guides. it goes away like 1/2 second later. So this morning the boy and i were headed to go moto, temp was high teen low 20's the first 15 miles was flat ground, truck up to temp. then the decent happens, it's about 20 miles long. i notice out the tail pip every now and then white smoke. puff here puff there. sometimes a longer trail. 300 yards long. has to be in the shadow to see it. in the morning sun it's non detectable. so my thought was the cold air temp maybe? or is it time to buy injectors? do i have to have a dealer set the codes? or can a local mechanic shop do it for me. i asked one, he said for Some of them he can. i was not crazy about his responses to my questions. anyhow. anything else i should check.? Oil level is fine. doesn't smell of fuel, mpg's are ok. got 18 round trip today. with two bikes in the bed and loaded of gear. runnin 72.

Long Haul
i do love my little ranger. feels very planted in the snow vs my dodges. bad part is it's close to the same MPG's. i've been in a couple nasty wrecks. rolled my dads 93 f250 truck the night of his 50'th b-day. it wasn't aloud back in the house for a month after that one.

Long Haul
You will be better looking for a civic or similar. as good of fuel you might get it's not even close to the civic class types. if the cash isn't there to buy one might looking to selling one of the trucks. these trips will get SPENDY and fast. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but i'm a realist. the facts are the facts. unless you have reserves of cash, your math is going to put you in the poorer house. You might look into doing deliveries or picking up orders for locals to off set the cost.

electrical gremilns.
i was thinking more the lines of a bad break light switch to let the juice back feed to the front. maybe even the light switch, i'll remove the rear taillight and see what i come up with.

electrical gremilns.
So, on my 08, Wife was pulling it into the driveway last night, the FRONT passenger side parking light was on while she was pressing the brake. release the brake, light goes out. i have her double check, all the lights work when the light switch, everything seems to be ok. but this cross feed or something.. again. press brake, front right passenger parking light will illuminate.

Mean While on Hoth....
lol no, i love this little tractor, or glorified lawn mower with out the mower deck. has 3 point hitch, and small bucket. 4' wide. it GREAT for doing driveways. gravel, snow. I have a gannon and blade for the 3 point. it's just a great little tractor. i use it to load logs into my truck, but have to be careful as to how much weight is in the bucket and the rear tires come off the ground. it's mitigated some with the gannon though. it has a 3cylinder yanmar engine. it's a lot faster then the snow blower, and not had cumbersome as the bigger machines.

6.7 injectors.
do i have to.. no, i have 3 other vehicles i could take, however we usually drive it on the weekends with the boys n dog, so mega cab is very very nice for this. my 04 has turned into a dump run, wood cutting truck. it has 240K on it's injectors. but is hardly driven anymore. it wont hurt me money wise. i've not heard much about 6.7 and bad injectors. like you do with the 5.9's. mileage is decent.

6.7 injectors.
To replace or not to replace. right now i have the money to replace my injectors in my 08, there are a few sign of them going bad.. i think. every now and then i have a long crank before it fires off. totally random. they have 155K on them. but are bloody expensive. So, should i bite the bullet and get them? i've never installed them. i've read horror story after horror story of botched installs. or i'd have a local shop install them. this is kinda a preventative maintenance thing. So thoughts.

Mean While on Hoth....

Oil viscosity
i ran this one once. http://hd.valvoline.com/our-products/valvoline-premium-blue-8600-es-synthetic-blend-heavy-duty-diesel-engine-oil but the price point wasn't there for me. i can get the 5/40 and 15/40 way cheaper.

Happy New Year and conversation with engineer

Oil viscosity
here is what i do..i only change my oil a few times a year.. spring the trucks get 15-40, all summer long, then fall i run 5-40. do i need to? not really, but i have several times when it's well below 0, and well, i'm OCD. if you see lots of starts at -30, then i would run 5-40, Valvoline, Rotella, what ever your pocket book can handle, any really that meet the spec will be just fine. i;m a fan of Valvoline and Travellers from tractor supply. as for extending drains, only a UOA can tell you how far you can go.. i change my oil at 7500-8000 miles. my UOA tell me i can go to 10K, with the TBN at 7.6...

Who Has the Most Miles on a Dodge Ram Automatic Trans
i had 238K on my 48re, before a rebuild and upgrade.. it was doing fine. builder said no reason to believe it would have failed. said it was in good shape for it's age.

blowing fuses.
ok so i've been doing some testing. of sorts. when the fuse pops everything inside is dead. I can NOT re start the gen from inside as i said before. i can go outside and start it on the gen it's self, and raise and lower the jacks. the only draw on the batteries would be either the 2 lights that were on inside, and or me pressing the start button. so maybe they run the start circuit through the switch instead of a solenoid. we just received 12" of snow today, and luckily the presents are all wrapped. this is a problem i'll have to tackle in the spring. thank you for the ideas, i'd also like to find a way to wire in an inverter someday so i don't have to run the gen to have AC power. what's even stranger, is i can crank and crank on the gen when it's cold and it never pops the fuse, it only pops after it's started.... so maybe it's recharging the batteries at to high a rate?

blowing fuses.
no because i can up the switch to start the generator back up... and all is fine again.. like i said it's odd... i need to see what this one wire has to do with the whole thing... it being such a light gauge wire as well.. maybe install some breakers.
