  1. None around me..........
  2. And that is the reason anyone involved in EMS, LEOs, and insurance companies tell you not to swerve and to stay on the road. Deer damage is way less and you come out of it a lot better.
  3. Well, there are a couple of reasons I prefer Amsoil. #1 in my book is that when they did an expansion a few years back they hired a Union contractor (yes, I was one of the pipefitters that worked on the expansion), #2 is they were the first synthetic manufacturer so they have more experience (i got to see a little bit of what goes into making the oils), #3 is the convenience of living about a half hour drive from their manufacturing and distribution facility.
  4. You are saying that THOSE are some of the "enlghtened" ones???? Man, you need to get out more.......
  5. I just run over to the Amsoil and buy it over the counter. In other words, I prefer Amsoil.
  6. I got along great with my Mother-in-Law when she was alive. I walked into her house one day and she hauled off and punched me in the arm and it hurt! I asked her what that was for and she said "You looked like you needed it!". True story........
  7. Look here for the instructions for how to replace the rear main seal on your truck: http://dieseltrucksite.com/showthread.php?t=266
  8. Highly doubtful!
  9. I would be calling EVERY day! That is rediculous.
  10. No, the place the block cracks is down lower on the side. There is no cause that you can point to and say with all certainty "That's IT!". Speculation is the casting was reduced there as a cost saving measure or defect, or the way the engine mounts are on the truck contribute to the cracking. The worst blocks are the "53" blocks and obviously some of the "55" blocks.
  11. I just looked and it is 41*F in Anchorage. Been -6*F here in northern Mn most of the evening. We won't even have a high temp in the next 10 days that is as high as their low temps for the same time period.
  12. I just put one on my son's car. The only problem I had was the nipple on the aluminum oil cooler broke off. Luckily my future SIL was stopping by so he took the cooler home and welded it up for me. Hard to believe it has a 1000 watt heater in it!
  13. The narrative sounds like there was a medical issue as a contributing factor in this crash.
  14. I agree. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but from what I see you don't have much recourse either. There is no repair that is pemanent and anything you do will just need to be thrown out at a later date. Also, from the pictures I don't see anything that looks like it was gooped up from before, BUT, even if it was you are still stuck. You purchased a used vehicle with over 100,000 miles so you legaly bought it "AS IS". Again, I am sorry for the way things are, but there is no sense in sugar coating it.
  15. Quick check on Craigslist gives this ad: http://waco.craigslist.org/ptd/4239123923.html I know nothing of this place, but I know of one in the Denver area that would do you good, but the shipping would be high I would think.
  16. The only way to fix it is to either replace the block or replace the complete engine. There is no real fix for the block. Maybe look for a wrecked truck to buy the engine out of?
  17. You would not have hurt anything unless you filled it with washer fluid and tried to run it for a long time like that. It would have coooled fine until it got low enough to over heat. Eventually you would expeience some cooling system failure due to the chemical make up not really made for in an engine block. Washer fluid has the thermal properties of water, but not the corrosion properties of anti-freeze.
  18. -14*F as I type this and we are headed to about -27*F tonight. I guess I will find out how well my '12 TDI will start at that temp. with no heater on it. I also read in today's paper that this is now the second COLDEST winter on record here and the next 10 days have zero days with the low above zero...... DAMN, I am tired of the cold......
  19. Glad you got it fixed! Plus it was a simple fix!!
  20. Way back in about 1978 I had a pair of moose hide mittens made out of a moose that I participated in hunting. They had fleece in them for a liner and they were the best wearing and warmest mittens I have ever had. I wish I still had them.
  21. You didn't hurt a thing. The cooling system could not have pulled enough washer fluid in to even notice. Just run it.
  22. If it was the water pump then you should be able to lay under the front of the truck and look up at the water pump and you should see something coming out of the weep hole or you could just reach under it anf feel for some water. Does your truck put out any steam? Do you smell any anti-freeze after running it and getting it up to temp? You may even have a headgasket leaking, but rule out everything else before condeming the headgasket.
  23. Again, they are so simple that about the only thing it could be is the insulating bushing(s) broken.Pull the other nut and check them.
