  1. Unless you are going to be running 40+ psi boost consistently, in my opinion studs are a waste of money. If you upped the torque on the stock bolts you can get the head gasket to hold 50 psi boost, but the studs are a better option if you want to run that much boost. With studs you run a lot less risk of lifting the head and causing a gasket leak, but even if you do they are not bad to change. Your best bet would be to change them one by one and MAKE SURE you follow what the manufacturer of the studs say for instructions.
  2. Oh, I thought you meant lift pump...... Sorry. They do have a CP3 pump and from what I understand they can get by without a lift pump (but I don't know that for sure). The first thing I would do is try scanning the computer to see if anything is there. Also check for any loose plugs that are related to the fuel system.
  3. It sounds to me like you are going to need to inspect the wiring from the controller to the plug. You probably have some corrosion at a connection most likely at the plug. It will allow some voltage through, but not enough to do what it is supposed to do.
  4. Isn't there a bundle of ground wires under the kick panel behind the parking brake?
  5. You could have had a cheap truck!
  6. Sometimes the shaft that runs from the steering column and the gearbox wears and it is known to cause a clunk that is not only heard but also felt in the steering wheel.
  7. If it will start or run on a spray then it is a fuel related problem. The fuel pump should be in the tank where the module is and is part of the module. Check to make sure there is power going to the pump module first.Tom
  8. Here ya go Rick!! http://duluth.craigslist.org/pts/3841259060.html
  9. Thanks, Rick, but...um.... Maybe you shouldn't listen to STRANGERS???
  10. Really!! You sure like screwing up every suggestion I come up with! Just out of curiosity, did you check the voltage?
  11. No, a 47RH was used in the '94 and '95 trucks. My early '96 is the first year with the RE trans.
  12. As per our conversation, this sure sounds promising! I will see if I can find anything else out.... edit: Rick, here is some info that I found: Don't mind the spelling, some aren't very good at it. I am guessing he meant CODE! Here is another:
  13. HEY!! Someone OLDER than me!!:hyper:
  14. You guys really make me feel old.........
  15. Once you figure this thing out I really want to know what it is!!
  16. Geez, you was only 3 years old when I graduated high school! BTW, I bought my truck (the one in sig) May 1, 2001!
  17. Well, Rick...... I have run out of suggestions for you. Everything I suggest you have an answer for!! I don't understand the relay problem. It just don't make sense. There has to be a reasonable explanation, but I have no idea what it is.
  18. You should try to call Dave Goerend.
  19. I was just in a local Radio Shack and they had just exactly what you are looking for! All you would need is just the time and ambition...... Oh, and money...
  20. Why are you running a 160 pump? You should be running a 180 in a '96.
  21. Well, you answered that one. I am thinking along the same line as Denhopp. The TPS is what tells the PCM how hard the trottle is getting pushed and where to put the transmission as far as gears. Either try the pot or replace the TPS. NAPA has the TPS available. The part number is: CRB 219233 and the price is about $149 so the pot is way less money.
  22. Gotta love those "Pending" codes......:banghead:
  23. Maybe you need a governor pressure sensor?
  24. I put a set of DURO radial 6 ply tires on my fiver over 6 years ago and they are they are doing great! I just did a brake inspection and the tires are almost as good as new. I don't go off road, but they are not showing any signs of age yet. I would recommend them.
  25. Here is a suggestion. Try scanning the computer for codes. My '96 had a code for the transmission stored when I first got it and didn't light the check engine light. You may have a solenoid screwing up on you. Also maybe try sending Dave Goerend an email. www.goerends.com I just went to that site and found something that may be of interest. Read this for some more info on shifting: http://www.goerend.com/index.cfm?Page_name=VBA%20Purpose
