TIRES - Sizes, brands, etc. - What do you run?
I had a used set of Nitto Terra Grapplers That were on a set of rims I bought......................Worst tire I have ever ran, I ditched them within a month they handled horrible and I couldn't get them to balance either.I keep talking and looking at what others are running in my area and the Hankook Dynapro ATM is still getting more and more popular, I have had a set on my 05 cummins for a couple of years now and absolutely love them all around.

Whats new about fukishima?
Snopes like Wikipedia have been caught on many levels cooking the data also and are not very reliable sourceswhen it comes to government and subjects like this where the gov is covering up a ton of data "both our own and Japans gov that is" as both are owned and run much like our media by Liberals with an agenda.

If you don't mind adding the part #'s of the improved parts you are going with to the thread it would help others who may end up doing an overhaul or even just an upgrade in the future. What brand of Cam are you going with?

Can someone educate me? Superchip Cortex Programmer
On my 02 with 150 injectors, II silver 62 turbo and an auto while towing heavy in hot weather I had on lots of occasions held steady at 1300-1400 for hours on long road trips................sold it with 150k on the clock and she ran perfect, she was still a virgin yet, had stock OEM head gasket and head bolts to boot, engine was never opened up other than the valve cover to adjust valves and swap injectors, waste gate was set at 42 psi.1200 all day will hurt nothing on these things......................EGT probe in the manifold of course, not post turbo.

Trouble uncoupling WD hitch from ball.
I have a similar ball clasp on my 72 Avion TT. The trick to all ball style hitches it to make sue you do not have any rearward force applied to the ball, always best to chock the trailer wheels if not on level ground and then let the pickup roll forward or after chocked put the pickup in gear and pull ahead, these things will make unhooking a lot easier. This same trick also works for hooking up set the trailer on the ball and then snug the ball up by pulling forward, the ball clasp will latch much easier.:smart:I can't count how many folks I see beating on these things at camp grounds and jumping on the bumper to get things to release ect, I would tell them the easy way but with a beer in hand I find this to be cheap entertainment.

TIRES - Sizes, brands, etc. - What do you run?
Different rims with greater offset would cause more stress. If one wants super wide tires then yeah you will need a different offset wheel and that is when the stresses come into play on bearings and ball joints. if running wider tires on factory off set wheels it may increase the stress a bit but would be minimal. Remember this, all the theories and specs ect ect are written up for ideal perfect conditions.............................Find me any ideal and perfect conditions outside of a laboratory and we would have a few billion people trying to get on top of it pronto.

TIRES - Sizes, brands, etc. - What do you run?
All fine and dandy if all it does is roll down the pavement unloaded.............for those of us that don't have that ability.................tire life and safe stability and handling are more important.:2cents:Every time I have tried 235 tires I can't drive a straight line to save my hide. they follow every single crack in the road and they feel like I am riding on a tub of jello. I have never noticed a lick of mileage difference either but that is the difference in territory and use. I would love to live in the mountains"only for mpg reasons", every time I have been there every rig I drive gets way better mileage 3-4 mpg better than in the windy rolling hills of the plains.

TIRES - Sizes, brands, etc. - What do you run?
On the other side of the page is when I run narrower tires in the conditions and how I use them I have only gotten about half the life from them.OH NO there are cons to them too...........I find them to not handle very good and not as stable and they don't track as straight as a bit wider tire either. If they were on the back of a dually I would say ok but not on the back of my 2500's.In the long run for what tires cost versus the wee bit they may save in fuel is a wash.

Extreme cold!!!
If you fill at Cenex it is caller "Wintermaster" most of the other stations sell straight #2, 50/50 and straight #1. It is best to ask but I find most of the brainless help have no clue, I have seen them just give a blank lifeless stare when asked........Like I say find a reputable station and stick with it. My vote goes to any Cenex station, the local ones are going through name changes now too but the cenex signs are usually still posted.

Extreme cold!!!
I wouldn't worry about any additives, just run #2 until around temps stay at or below freezing constant then switch to 75 /25 and that will be good until 0 and then a 50/50, in your case and not knowing the stations up there you may just want to run the 'Winterized" fuel or just go with 50/50 and add 2 stroke to play it safe. Do not add any 2 stroke to any so called "winterized" fuel like cenex ect, it will actually have the opposite effect and could cause it to wax or gell even sooner. Same with mixing winterized fuel with another type of fuel, the additives they add to winterized fuel do not play well with other fuels. If it is just plain old 50/50 mixes or straight blends you are ok just beware the actual"Winterized" Cenex actually has a winterized fuel and are about the only ones who tell you straight out and have signs posted to not blend or mix it with anything else. Stick with one thing and one reputable station, stay away from the "Corner stops" Stick with good fuels, I happen to have the best luck with Cenex brand fuels in the state, every thing I own runs better on it versus the Tesoro fuel. I like Conoco fuel as well but they pulled out of our area this summer.

Extreme cold!!!
RyanThe title of this thread is "Extreme Cold" which to me means 0 and below. If you have not experienced it before it is not easy to describe.Anything above 0 is not even a remote comparison to how iron and metal and heat acts in sub zero, the sub zero temps isn't the only thing to consider, add 20-40 mph winds on top of sub zero temps and it is a whole new game changer it sucks any heat out of things almost as fast as it can be generated. You are more than welcome to come on up and do all the testing you want if you are willing to stand out in these conditions and do it........I lived my life out of a service truck working on all types of equipment for about 10 years and a lot of it in zub zero temps and windchills, so I can say it with confidence.

Extreme cold!!!
Don't forget the parasitic heat loss as the thermostat has a vent hole in it so it circulates a small amount of coolant 100% of the time even if it is closed. You did hit a big one with engine blanket but you would need to insulate the oil pan as that is where most of the heat goes via wind chill factors.I have driven 65 mph in -20* and colder temps and the temp gauge never went past 150* if that a few times in my 05 with auto with front totally blocked off, in this case the parasitic loss from the cold wind chills blowing past the engine and oil pan sucked a lot of generated heat. These are trips where the insulated gloves stay on all the way home as the cab never warms up.

Extreme cold!!!
In Grand Forks it will hit zero and below and will not be above zero for weeks on end, and unless he is towing heavy blocked off solid will hurt nothing just normal everyday driving but the trick is to open up the center section, if doing a ton of town driving with an auto and it is getting warm then move the cardboard in between the coolers and rad.I have had the grill inserts in all 4 of my rams and they are worth less to say the least in sub zero temps. He is not too far from International Falls Minnesota "200 miles maybe"which is the coldest town on record in the lower 48 in winter.

TDI
Just learn to use the "search function" There is so much info on the site some members really like to lay into folks who ask the same ol questions and not using "search" first. The hard thing is that Germans use different terms for parts so doing a search gets tricky some times.

Try here.................http://forums.tdiclub.com/ It is totally amazing to see the tech write ups on about every single part of these cars on this site. I have never seen a site even remotely as technical as this one.

Oil pump housing failure, probable rebuild...
Make sure to keep all the pieces including those that may be found in the oil pan and inspect things very closely as you disassemble, don't do like some and rip and tear as fast as they can until they have a pile of parts and then sift through them after the fact.

Oil pump housing failure, probable rebuild...
Knowing this is what makes me think it was the cause, something could have happened while doing the gear swap from one cam to the other, I have seen several engines over the years that had massive damage from cam gear failures and a couple were after a cam or gear swap.
