  1. Had another load today, 2008 3500 Dodge with a dump body, The contractor I have hired for a landscape project in front of my house had a wheel bearing / front axle u-joint go bad and locked up temporarily, so in a trade for labor on both jobs I went to town and hauled it out to my shop to fix up the front end for him.Got it pulled apart and it wasn't too bad, upper ball joints have some movement but not going to do them at this time it will be ok for a while, both wheel bearings are good but the driver side axle shaft u-joint is just starting to go bad but hasn't totally failed yet and the right one still looks good, so will be doing drive side axle joint and brake pads and possibly a front pinion seal for him.
  2. I think you mean knoephla. Guess you need German blood running through your veins to get it right but I won't hold it against you. http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/knoephla-soup
  3. I have the info to disprove or prove you right and or wrong as I gave a wee teaser a few posts back. We will not know without me seeing pics so I can help determine the cause of it. BTW...............................just as many breaks in metal happen slowly and over time as do they break from impact, shock loads, excessive torsional loads ect. I gave a couple pages of info about gear breaks.....................I have books of metallurgy and others to determine how and why metals in general breaks as well.
  4. This is a fairly old video I have seen numerous times over the years on local public TV stations. No matter how many times they air it I always find myself unable to turn the channel, very interesting and calming.
  5. To check the valves and seats for signs of leakage fill the exh and int ports with diesel fuel and if you see any wetness coming past the valves it is time for some work.
  6. Not a common rail issue, it is a poor quality /dirty fuel related issue that requires more vigilance in filtering and Knowing what you put in the tank and from where. Better quality parts at the end of the equation require better liquid and handling standards at the beginning of the equation. I would pull the head and inspect if it were mine as the parts could have damaged a valve or seat and or the piston and cylinder wall.
  7. On the ol 02 I had a BD single disc converter and had 3 sets of injectors other than stock and never had a stalling issue, had a set of 90 and 155 hp BD injectors both 7 hole design, ran good and clean burning, then just before selling I switched to a 100HP set of Scheids 5 hole, raw burning at idle and it did give a lot lower rpm at cold start and put in gear but never died, once warm it didn't phase it so I did see a difference in 7 hole to 5 hole sticks.
  8. Its not too hard to find old injector bodies and it is easy to make one from there, nothing invested but a gauge and a little time to build it.:thanks:Having worked at many diesel shops over the years I don't think I have ever seen or used a commercially made compression tester, every place had home made ones from old injectors for every brand and type of engine.
  9. Did the runaway happen and thus cause the rollover?????????????????????????????A little difference in a runaway condition after the fact or before the fact, that didn't just happen when you started it.
  10. Does he have a factory DRB computer with capability to do this sort of re-flash? Never heard of any private individual having the access to this tooling or factory files / usually a dealer only type of info. The only other places that I thought did this are ECM repair companies or Bob Wagner from Smarty can have this done.I am very interested in this if there are other sources who can do this.
  11. Until you rule out the ECM by re-flashing it to the correct parameters it will be hard to go any farther with your issues, Your issues are classic symptoms of others who have done the same swap and put on a different ECM.
  12. I wish you the best there and hope it goes well. I know of way too many instances of company buyouts of employee retirement pension and company stock accounts only for every last cent to get tied up in court cases and lost forever. My wife has an uncle that went through this at a huge equipment dealer in AZ, he retired just as corporate "X" bought out a huge dealership chain he worked as a diesel tech for over 20 years and then took over the retirement accts and in the end he got pennies on the dollar and wound up working past his retirement and is still working in his upper 70's due to it. Corporate "X" would have paid all retirees 50% but the Union decided to fight it until they burned up almost all of the assets in the acct resulting in a payout of what was remaining of the 50% the company released after court costs fighting for a couple years and not winning. Just another reason putting too many eggs in one basket are a bad idea, he got hit double whammy with company pension and company stock. Another reason company pensions are quickly becoming a thing of the past in todays world of economics.
  13. Rather than fixing the smashed one just use it for parts for the running saw.
  14. If you find the rod of your dreams and are ready to part with that one keep me in mind, always wanted a project like that.
  15. Awesome!!!!!!!!! That is by far my favorite Hot Rod type, next is ugly ol rat rods.
  16. Right in line, was a fair deal....................................lets see pics of the Hot Rod!
  17. Like I posted before, you should be there documenting the tear down as that is where the learning comes from, knowing what failed and why and how.Are you or the shop going to get high quality picks of the broken stuff?
  18. Don't worry, I have been a diesel tech for 20+ years and all the science in the world does not make up for the short comings of iron. I try to keep them all grounded and as AH64ID found with his engine, all the science and specs in the world still succumb to the short comings and weaknesses of Iron................
  19. Why are you not doing the work yourself, seeing what you have done in the past a full teardown is fairly straight forward and I thought you would be capable. Seems if you have time to wait you could have done it yourself...................Just wondering is all. Hey I know others were thinking what I just asked...........................Someone had to do it
  20. If the tranny isn't cooked you can go with a TC / VB together. A good TC is worthless without a modded VB to up the inner pressure of the tranny and better flow and clutch holding capability.I ran a single disc BD converter rated for 450 hp / 750 tq at 560 hp and 986 tg and sled pulled quite a lot and did a few drag strip runs and it held up fine for over 100K until I sold the rig. If I would have drag raced more the TC would not have held up but in low range during sled pulling it did awesome.
  21. The red piece is a square "U" shape that needs to be pulled out to uncouple from a groove on the sensor. Don't have to pull it off but it snaps out about a 1/16 of an inch pull it too far out and the bottom side recouples in the grooved slots again, there is a sweet spot for it so to speak. The legs of the "U" are what hook into the grooves of the sensor.Hope you get the drift, not a very good explanation but the best I can do without show and tell.
  22. Welcome to our little piece of heaven.
  23. From talking with numerous horse folks and trainers sway back is primarily from lack of proper training of the horse and allowing them to carry their head too high and it causes week muscles in the neck to hold the back straight. Of course this isn't the only reason for a sway back but is one of the biggest. I am sure Dork can add more details on this if he is a horse man which I am not but my wife has had horses her whole life.
  24. If I am broke down in your neck of the woods I hope you at least check your messages since you do not answer calls you don't recognize, I have texting disabled on my cell phones and do not text.So If you see a 701 number be fore warned not everyone on earth texts.
  25. Just a comment but from many years of diesel forum roamings i have read many threads of this same issue of engine stalling when put in gear, what I see a ton of them have in common was 2 things, aftermarket tighter converters and the main reason.....................Edge jammers, can't remember all the specifics but it would be worth time to research, I know for a fact i have read about lots of stalling issues right after Jammer injector installs over the years.
