Balance Beads or Traditional Lead Tire Weights??? Which Would You Recommend???
Are you talking about the bead packs that go inside the tires or the bead rings that mount between the rim and hub? I personally have never had any luck with the packs that go inside the tires but have read good things about the balance bead rings but have no personal experience with them.

NV4500 Woes ? what is going on ?
You mean gear lash I believe. The 4500 has different cut gears than the 5600. The 5600 gears have finer teeth than the 4500 witch will lead to more gear lash noise.

The option of pushing the tow haul button twice to turn of OD only works on the 06 and newer.

Am I just negative ? Or is our nation and world really on a downhill slide?
It was a learning experience. I did not get my name in on time to get on the ballot to get elected to the national delegation but from a state level delegate what you saw the republican party do to Ron Paul at the national republican convention is pretty much the same as what happened at the ND convention and most other states. The establishment machine was scared to death of real change cutting into their corrupt control system. They had a high profile DC lawyer makeing last minute back room rule changes that only the establishment republicans had access to at most state conventions. :banghead:

I will give it a try on a day when I am bored some day, last time I updated a smarty for my 02 it took me the better part of a day to figure out how to do it not to mention a trip to town for a cable and figuring out how to download a program to handle compressed zip folders ect ect ect. Suck for a computer iliterate guy like me.

Am I just negative ? Or is our nation and world really on a downhill slide?
I have a Utah ccw but my wife and I are taking the ND ccw class in a couple of weeks as Utah made law changes that requires one to have a ccw from their state of residence before being able to get or renew a utah ccw permit.I conceal carry either a smith 686 .357 2.5"barrel 7 shot revolver or my Glock 20 10mm 15+1. I like the bigguns:pant:I just bought my wife a Smith Bodygaurd .38 special 2.5" barrel. I took her to the gun shop and she held many many small guns to find the one she was most comfortable with holding and the Smith Bodygaurd was the one she liked best and the factory built in laser site sealed the deal even more for her.:hyper:Here in ND a person can only open carry if you have a ccw. The only exception is while actively hunting and in the field. But ND game and fish rules trump ccw permits if you are hunting and you have a ccw the gun has to be unloaded while inside the vehicle.I could go on for ever in here but Heroz just capped some of what I was going to say and even had the link I was going to post. Kind of a breath of fresh air to see a younger gent who is reading up on what is actually happening around the world.I just went to a seminar a couple weeks ago and listened to economist Peter Schiff and a couple other speakers who broke down the whats and whys of our current situation. That said it comes down to getting yourself out of debt as fast as you can and then preserving your liquid assets and jumping into precious metals and or investing in energy and mining companies specifically precious metal mining companies. I have been reading and listening to many long term srategists who claim that in the situation we are in that land is not a good investment either 1 is it is almost too high in value to be a practical investment unless it is producing viable sustainable income via ag or other comodities and 2 is that is the first thing rogue governments will take from us.

NV4500 Woes ? what is going on ?
The additional gear and better shift points are the only thing better about the 5600, it is more expensive, a lot weaker and a lor more complicated to rebuild. The overall strength of the 4500 is far superior over the 5600. The aftermarket has stepped up for stronger parts for the 4500 as well, the 5600 was not a common tranny and was short lived. GM also ran the 4500 which makes for better availability too.I have changed many clutches like that and is most commonly caused by downshifting at too high of speeds while towing and expecting the clutch hub to absorb the entire shock load of the load being towed. This is also aplicable if running a modded engine and expecting the stock clutch hub to hold up.Aggressive up and down shifts are the main culprit here. Why are you double clutching a synchronized tranny? All you are doing is wearing out the synchros and your clutch faster.

2 computers..... what is the 'command flow'?
Stick with a 12 valve and properly mod it for daily towing use and stick with a Dodge tranny, sounds like you need to find a better tranny builder. The 47RH "mechanical auto tranny" properly built will outlast the Allison, as posted above the Allison 1000 was designed as an automotive tranny and is not a quality tranny compared with to the older truck trannys most think of when they associate with allison, they have many issues as do every other tranny in stock form.

different WD hitch comparisons
I was half joking but at the same time throwing options out there. I have seen a dual receiver setup where it has two receiver pockets on the outer edges rather than a single mid receiver and I have also seen ridged frame mounted atv ramps, some fold up some don't. Not sure where or who supplies them just know that a majority of 5ers have them around here at least the ones that don't have their boat hooked behind the 5er. I realize travel trailers are limited in what can be done for load distribution, I have a 1972 25' Avion travel trailer with rear holding tanks the main supply tank is 40 gallons and is directly behind the axles grey water behind it and black water at the back. But there is plenty of toungue weight even with full tanks where the axles are positioned. Dry weight is listed at 6800lbs.

different WD hitch comparisons
Nothing but an excuse there. They make rear receiver and or frame mounted platforms where toys like 4 wheelers can ride on the back end on 5th wheel trailers now days. Pretty rare to not see some sort of Motorcycle or ATV hanging off the back end of most campers in my neck of the woods.

Trade it in on a gooseneck trailer........Problem solved.

black diesel fuel
Oil renewal systems are alive and well. Cat and Cummins both use the systems in industrial applications. We have a brand new cummins in a hitachi 2500 excavator "24.5 yard bucket" and most all new cat equipment uses this system as well. some you have to add a set amount of oil to the crankcase every day and some have a renewal tank that keeps the engine oil level correct as it meters the oil into the fuel system. You never have to change engine oil just spin filters every 300 hours and add oil as needed.

You can not reprogram an 05 to turn off the OD. On the 06 and up you can and below 05 you can but the 05 was an odd year for pcm programs. You can wire in a switch to do this and DTT offers a shift enhancer as well that many absolutely love on 3rd gens. It cleans up the indecisive shifts and lock unlock you get at times with the addition of a programmer.I have a non POD smarty jr and it has been great. I dynoed it on my rig on level 3 and did 407 hp and 750 tq, totally stock except for the PSM air box mod.I get the best mileage on level 3 with no trailer, I have seen 20.5 several times but have yet to break 21. I get better mileage on the towing setting while towing than any other setting. level one isn't good for much that I have found they call it economy but it does worse here than on level 2-3.Being mine is not a POD and has an old tune in it because I have not updated it it does smoke a lot.

Tell him to pound sand, hes doesn't know what he is talking about.HMMMMMM yeah back pressure on an engine that is shut down, lets stop and think about that.....................

Do you need to change a relay when you change a starter or N.S.S.
His posted schematic is of a 1997.I have never heard of changing a relay with the starter. If the relay is bad the starter will not engage or even more rare it would stick on and keep the starter running.

Transfer Case or Rear Trans seal leak??
No big deal either way. It is a simple 10 dollar lip seal and it is only about a 2-3 hour job to replace.
-
Transfer Case or Rear Trans seal leak??
If I remember correctly its been a few years since I have split one but there is not a seal on the tranny output shaft,I think there are two back to back on the t-case coupler shaft one faces inward to keep t-case oil in and the second one backwards to keep tranny oil out of t-case and there is just a gasket between the t-case and tranny.I am abit fuzzy like I say but I do not remember a seal on the tranny.

maximum egt for 2004.5- 2007 5.9
The 3rd gens can handle hotter temps. I have talked to guys who tow heavy with some mods on the 3rd gens and never see anything below 1200 all day long and not have any issues. I only have a Smarty JR on my 05 and have never seen the need to add gauges although I have thought about adding fuel supply and rail pressure gauges just for fun. When I had my 02 modded to 560 hp I would routinely see 1200-1300 the whole time I towed on hot days and never had an issue.I usually ran with the Edge comp box on level one and at that setting I was at around 475 hp.

some pics of the 'new' guys' iron... "stuffing a 903 cummins into a '96 ram 1500"
What is the 903 engine in? a semi tractor or AG tractor? Steiger or Versatile, IH?They were extremely hit and miss either you got a good one or a dud. The cost to overhaul was what put most of them in the scrap heap. Not much power for a big engine either.

I hope that 903 boat anchor is going to the scrap heap!!!

Work?
Broken down even farther a good majority of that 3% lives on a reservation and is dependant on the rest of the working class. Not sure what you mean by raod and bridge tax? We do have state and federal taxes added to every gallon of fuel sold here if that is what you mean? Just throwing that out as I don't know what angle you are coming from. CSM, thanks for the input, its always nicw when an industry insider can chime in. I live on the outskirts of the oil patch "Roughly 70 miles away from active wells" and work in the coal mining industry myself but am close enough to hear the oil talk first hand most days.

Ever look up and wonder where those planes are coming from or going to?
There is an awesome site where you can find those flights with live real time data flying over your head. Tells you a ton of data like how many seats are filled and how much the tickets cost even. It only tracks commercial flights though so the small private planes and military or any helicopter flights don't show up. Enjoy http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KBIS

I was browsing Youtube and came across this guys youtube acct, he really does a good job of breaking down things you need to know about coming to work in the oil patch of North Dakota in his video blogs. http://www.youtube.com/user/lasvegascollapse Here is link from a local blog I thought some would find interesting. http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/hollywoods-attack-on-fracking/ http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/shocker-matt-damons-anti-fracking-film-is-funded-by-middle-easter-oil-interests/

Auto Trans. Temp
And now you know why it is almost useless to monitor it in the pan. That is what I saw as well until I put it in the hot converter out cooler line and it reads about 30-40 drgrees hotter there and is faster to react to actual tranny temp.

ISX You are on track with your thinking. We have been a steady Eddy for 50+ years and have held right at 650-670k range for population. Our biggest export for many decades was our states young people because of lack of enough jobs and careers other than the family farms and related ag industries and the coal industry which has held steady for decades as well, not much growth. Then you almost overnight add a huge oil boom and the wind tower industry into the mix and bring in literally hundreds and hundreds of large oil companies and all that goes along with servicing and supplying that industry that pays substantially more than what had been here prior. Everyone with a heart beat and a breath walks away from their former jobs for triple pay or more in most cases leaving nobody left for the basic jobs thus forcing them to up the wages to keep anyone working for them. This has plagued every part of society here if you want to look at it that way. Then all those hundreds of new companies that moved in and popped up for the oil boom now require thousands and thousands more employees, more than our states small population could ever dream of covering. Most just come for the quick buck because thay have no long range plans to stay and just need a quick boost for their financial issues. they are the transient workers that tend to follow the drilling activity but what we need are the thousands to stay for the long term production of the oil industry like service and maintenance ect for the nect 50+ years they figure it is going to last at a minimum.Williston hung at around 10k in population and in the last year they are just guessing they are at 30k population and growing, that is just one of many citys and town in the oil patch that is experiencing this huge population growth. All other towns and cities surrounding and accross the state are growing as well for the service and maintenace end of it not to mention the construction growth and engineering and every other type of job you can think of accross the state. It is here to stay we just need the people who are serious about sticking around for the long term as well. The 3-4 months of hard winter are not for everyone and that keeps the flow of people in and out.It has been all over the national news about ND for over a year so it is not lack of advertising.ND is #1 in production of most small grain crops nationally and last I saw was #2 in oil production recently passing California and Alaska to over take second place behind only Texas. Then add the coal fired generating industry, wind energy and hydro electric and ethanol production puts us at #3 in overall energy production nationwide. We have a lot of manufacturing industries also and getting more all the time.Like I said it is not just oil, Pick a job and you will find a good carreer here.
