  1. If upgrading I would go with a 4th gen no newer than 2012 which was just DPF and can be deleted more easily, in 2013 they went with SCR emissions which is the need for DEF.
  2. Most of their products are now "anaerobic" which means they only cure in the absence of air, the bottles are even air permeable to keep the product liquid until use so it can ultimately last forever. This is why the product under the cap of an open bottle is dried as it is absent of air.
  3. Just unplugging the comp will cause codes and check engine light unless you completely take it out of the circuit and plug the OEM sensor harness back together.
  4. Loctite has a very good application chart and one really needs to use it anymore with as many products they have on the market, there is really no such thing as a one and done product. This is an older version of the basic use products, they have a lot more products now. http://www.loctite.com.au/aue/content_data/311083_7129_Application_Wall_Chart_V10.pdf If one really wants to drill down into products and specs here is the master product support catalog. http://hybris.cms.henkel.com/medias/sys_master/catalogsync/catalogsync/9030422331422.pdf As far as the OP just some basic teflon tape is all you need in your venture, just remember to wrap it in the same direction as the threads from the end inwards although you are dealing with very small fittings so just one wrap is all you need so it doesn't matter much as the tape will be wider than the fittings lol.
  5. My 02 did that for years, just lived with it as it never really got worse or affected anything else other than being able to hear and feel it once in a while and the weird part was it was only no load hot low idle that it did it same as you turn on the ac or put into gear and it was smooth as silk..Did it through several different injectors pumps and comps/programmers.
  6. Never had any leaks on ours even @ near 300K, was about due to have the OEM clutch replaced which was still working good but could tell it was getting stiff which is usually the first warning sign of end of life and it was about due for a set of nozzles started and idled a bit rough and smokey for a few seconds at cold start up. Kept that one 100% stock wife wouldn't let me touch it but the 2014 has been deleted and has a flashed ecm. She wouldn't trade it for the world after having driven it for about 6 months stock before the DPF plugged due to a bad egt sensor and dealer dragging their feet. And then after the delete and having so much more power and gaining 10 mpg as a dder. 39 mpg best ever stock and 56 mpg best post deletes to date.
  7. I know the ALH and even the 2014 2.0l jetta we currently have are both iron blocks.
  8. Would be easier to know what you are wanting or looking for or to do with it ect, there is really no reliability issues to speak of but i would say if you went out to the forums that the "ALH" platform would be the most popular simplest and easiest to mod and work on. The 03 ALH Jetta 5 speed we sold a couple years ago we bought with 30k on it and sold it with just shy of 300K and nothing but basic maintenance on it, cleaned the intake manifold once and replaced a couple rear wheel hub assemblies the glow plug harness was the extent of the repairs over its life, very minor stuff.
  9. I have said this for many years and having been a heavy diesel tech my entire career and worked on back to back serial number fleets of equipment be it 200hp ag tractors to 2400 hp mine trucks in the exact same operating conditions running side by side every piece of iron has a personality to it as different as 2 people born in rooms next to one another in a hospital. No matter what is done there will never be exact consistency. Live with it and be happy.
  10. I think the tide is turning across the nation and the current admin and main stream media is in full blown panic mode and already looking for another option other than the hildabeast. Read an article this morning about DHS rubber stamping new immigrants as fast they can before the election.
  11. 3rd gens only have AAM axles as far as I know ford is the only company that went back to Dana after they released a heavier axle than the 80 several years back but have not kept up so not sure what they run now. As far as the front axle it is full live just like the late 01 and 02 2nd gen Danas meaning there is no central axle disconnect., drive lines and axles all spin all the time. This is why free spin hub kits are more popular with 3rd gen guys.
  12. No clutches in the LS units in an AAM so no need for ls additive, as far as running 2 different size tires.......................WHY?? as long as they are close it would be no issue as the LS unit in an aam is a different animal than a clutch type all together and is more forgiving in that regard.
  13. Another few weeks and all bird seasons will be open here too. No dog necessary as I have turkeys, doves and pheasants right out my window most everyday. And then grouse, partridge, ducks and geese in the fields and prairie less than a quarter mile from my house. Bird hunters paradise here.
  14. I bought a 95 1500 reg cab brand new had a 360 with an auto with 3.90 gears, that pickup was an absolute animal. probably the only pickup I regret selling in my life. She would roast the tires leaving stop lights with heavy loaded trailers with 285-75-16's and always did a solid 14 mpg no matter what. Had 110K on the clock when I Traded it in on a 99 2500 V10 auto with 3.54 gears it was a total pig in comparison, not much more pulling power and lots worse mpg. Worst deal of my life, only had the pickup for about a year and traded on my 02 cummins could have traded on an 03 cummins with a few more miles but a friend of mine bought the 03 and still has it for the same price hind site now I would have been a money ahead big time but at the time I liked the looks of the 2nd gens better, what a bone head I was back then.
  15. Ha Ha, I recently was listening to my uncle and his first cousin who are both recently retired and my uncle is balding but his cousin is greying and he looked at my uncle and said "I would rather have traitors than deserters".
  16. Wife's Oven? Tell me more about this unusual woman who knows of such things.....................Not just a Sammich maker anymore...
  17. All scrap recyclers take all types of insulated cable its just classed different for pricing. Short chunks of battery cable would be easy to strip but anything over that is not worth the extra couple pennies a pond for the labor involved. I did this with a few hundred pounds of copper wiring I bought at an auction a couple years ago, spent about 8 hours trying to strip some of it and soon realized it was not worth it, took it all to the scrapyard and they confirmed it too and explained the different classes of copper wire. Starters and alternators or electric motors are another story if one can disassemble these into "Clean" copper and aluminum makes a huge difference in price.
  18. Any word on the other fellas stolen truck from Georgia that was posted up here?
  19. Yep the oil at the servo ports is no hotter than the oil in the pan from all my trans temp probe location experiments.
  20. Another thing I need to know is where you are taking the temps, If measuring it in the pan the actual tranny temps are on average 30* hotter than you see in the pan as that oil is the coldest oil in the system and has just returned from the cooler.
  21. If that's the case the converter was likely not in lockup and that would be totally normal then, absolutely nothing to worry about. Other than adding a bigger pan with cooling fins an added cooler is not really needed in our northern climate unless you are pulling heavy in constant stop go town driving or doing a lot of heavy backing where you are in a constant stall condition.
  22. What speed and driving conditions were you pulling at? 200* is not a bad thing just keep it at or under 230 no issues at all.
  23. I'm sorry but stuff like this makes me mad as hell and I do not find humor in it, it is a huge safety issue and shows lack of proper maintenance and inspection. Lots of injuries and deaths occur every year due to stuff like this falling off vehicles on the open road. Ok back off my soap box now carry on.
