Suggestions on fuel filter
The problem with 5 micron filters is they tend to not let enough fuel flow freely in cold ambient temps. Duramaxes are super prone to stalling out due to this as they run 5 micron filters and everyone I know in my part of the country has had issues with a gelling like situation but its not its just thick slow moving fuel even though its winter fuel it still flows slower in cold temps. Summer time go for it man but not in winter time. Or at least in temps at or below 0*

Best Tuner to buy??
Smarty and smarty JR come in a POD "Power on demand" version so you can do just what you are wanting. it just needs to be plugged in to adjust settings but it is adjust on the fly. --- Update to the previous post... I never knew this good info, is there a link to this. I have had the cool hose on mine since I bought it with the stock air box mod and amsoil filter which doesn't flow very well as my restriction indicator is constantly pulled up about 3/4 just daily driving it, will have to go back to oem and see if it helps any. do you happen to have a PN for the oem filter?.

Suggestions on fuel filter
Stay with fleetgaurd 7 micron in factory canister. A lot add a 2 micron secondary filter also between the factory filter and the cp3 fuel pump.

Best Tuner to buy??
First is what are you looking for? Tuner for power mileage performance towing ect ect ect. What are you planning on doing or how will your rig be used. SmARTY IS ALWAYS A GREAT BET WITH A 3RD GEN LIKE YOUR 05. Or a smarty jr. The cool hose is a good idea to get rid of the restrictive stock air tube between the air box and turbo. Below taken from a vendor on another forum Everyday weekend warriros. TS or Dr.Performance mild pressure box.All out competition Bully dog or Smarty stacked with Dr. Performance race tune.

Stock up on Potasium Iodide!
here it is confirmed. http://www.infowars.com/japanese-nuclear-meltdown-confirmed/ Its going down hill fast folks. now a 3rd reactors cooling system has failed. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/12/japan-quake-nuclear-cooling-idUSLHE7EB02D20110312 --- Update to the previous post... Kelp or seaweed is also a good source of iodine. Kelp and other seaweeds are the great gift from the sea. Besides its rich iodine content, which is essential for a healthy thyroid, Kelp has a remarkable supply of vital nutrients, amino acids, vitamins and minerals that are key to promoting healthy overall glandular function. Kelp may even help fight obesity and be useful in weight loss programs. http://www.herbalextractsplus.com/kelp.cfm

transmission shift problem
There are several big snap rings inside the tranny. Would be pretty hard to fix without doing a total tear down unless it came from the OD section then you just need to remove the t-case if its 4wd and remove the OD section which is 4 or 6 bolts can't recall right off but it will come right off the back of the tranny really simple and easy. then you can actually see the OD clutch pack and see if thats the snap ring, if thats not the one then a total tranny tear down is needed.

Stock up on Potasium Iodide!
Gotta keep an eye on things, sounds like it could get worse. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/03/11/AR2011031103673.html http://www.prisonplanet.com/possible-radiation-leak-at-japan-nuclear-plant.html --- Update to the previous post... Its not looking good, now there is a second plant with problems and the first one had an explosion. http://www.infowars.com/huge-blast-at-japan-nuclear-power-plant/ If it turn into a bad meltdown, Japan could be a dead island like russia in 1986. --- Update to the previous post... :cookoo:And some people think I am full of BS about these things. Stock up on Potasium Iodide!
As long as its quality natural/organic product and not a synthetic big pharma product. I will have to check out that site. I have seen it pop up but never taken time to read into it.

Stock up on Potasium Iodide!
If the Nuclear reactor power plant in Japan happens to have a meltdown you will want to protect yourself by stocking up on Potasium iodide to protect your Thyroid gland. You should have it any ways as the thyroid needs this for proper function. But it will help prevent the thyroids intake of radio active material/radiation thus protecting the rest of the body. Plus it helps flush fluoride and bromine from the thyroid. Just need to be prepared folks. You military guys should be familiar with it as your basic gov isued first aide kits contain this for just the purpose of radiation exposure protection. Remember we have a westerly dominant wind in this country so once in the atmosphere guess where its headed. This just in........http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/03/japan-to-release-radioactive-vapor-at-disabled-nuclear-reactor/1 Not good but better than an all out failure.

Tires: Federal Couragia MTs - review
Looks like they got most common sizes available for older vehicles but almost everything now is 17 and 18 inch wheels and there is nothing offered in the most common production 17-18 inch wheels on most pickups now. Any pictures or links to what they look like?

Actual Degrees of Valve Actuation
I realize this, I was just asking him to do even more with all of what he does to make sure what he has previously posted is accurate and to confirm or prove or disprove some things. Valve timing is directly linked to a proper valve lash setting. From experience with bigger engines and setting overheads with dial indicator is that even when both intake and exh valves are loose you can't visibly see them move anymore but while rotating the engine it can take for example only 20*rotation to get to the bottom of the cam. which is so subtle you can't see the last .005" of movement. This is just an example. I would like him to experiment with this and see how it comes out.

Actual Degrees of Valve Actuation
So lay that over the top of your thread on easy valve lash setting and tell us what you find there. What I am getting at is are all of the valves being adjusted when they are on the bottom side of the cam or are some of them being adjusted during part of the duration cycle yet? You where adjusting them when they were both loose and one or the other could still be on the end of a lobe ramp or end of duration cycle and not quite to bottom of cam lobe and not resulting in a truely accurate adjustment. If you look at a dampner from a large cummins the degree marks for setting valves and injectors are on the dampner alreaday like what you are finding here. Just not always noted as degrees just have letters and numbers for reference though. Just throwing this out there also is that when doing valve adjustment by rotating the engine over by the alternator is rotating the engine backwards and the gear lash which isn't much does affect the results of the valve adjustment also. Take time and set up a dial indicator on top of a push tube and try it and you will find slight differences. Try that on a bigger engine when doing injector settings and you will have a really bad running engine if it even starts.I'm just sayin.

U think 08 fuel prices were bad listen to this!

U think 08 fuel prices were bad listen to this!
The other thing is that a large portion of the land in western ND they are drilling on is Federal land Theadore Roosavelt National park. I am a believer in Abiotic oil formation and This story only reinforces why I do. This is a long read and some may think it is way out there but the info within is pretty good aboout how are earth is changing and growing. Another thing I find interesting is in 08 when oil traded at 105 a barrel like they are now prices at the pump were barely 3 bucks a gallon they didn't break 4 bucks a gallon until it was close to the 140 a barrell range and everyone blamed bush and his croneys but not a single word about this administration and/or why its even worse this time.:banghead: --- Update to the previous post... Bloomberg article from this morning!!!!! Oil trade speculators looking at $200/barrel by June. MPG on 3rd Gen towing more than 7500 lbs
Well I filled it up yesterday and it did 11.2 And it had about 40 miles on it with no trailer. So not as good as expected but not suprising with the cold temps. Think I could have done better with smarty jr on level 3 instead of 2. Made pretty much the same trip a few years ago and it did 8 going and 12 coming. so overall around 10 mpg with a heavy bumper trailer is expected. Gooseneck would probably do better.

A/C compressor cycles when not selected
I have always wondered why they did it that way also as its very odd. But it is what it is I guess.
-
A/C compressor cycles when not selected
I think its normal in the dual position. Mine cycles the compressor when its in the dual floor / vent position also.Change it to floor or vent alone and it does not cycle. My 02 and 05 are both the same way.
