  1. This really common with most plain dyno oils, it is never super clean, You will find this with most brand named regular oils. Can not filter 100% of the solids out of it and as it sits the sediment settles out.
  2. I have not seen them in a while I know they make a liquid test kit you can test it for color change as well too same concept. https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-75500-Combustion-Leak-Detector/dp/B0007ZDRUI
  3. They do sell exhaust detection strips you can dip in the coolant to see if its getting exhaust gases into it as well. might check with your local parts jobber to see if they carry them.
  4. Was it doing this before the new radiator and were the hoses replaced at the same time? Try doing an easy stall with the cap off and have someone watch to see if it bubbles with a load on after the initial warm up expansion, Another way is to stretch a rubber glove over it and stall it to see if it blows up during a stall test to get a bit of load on it "After its already warmed up". This will let you know if you have a head gasket leaking real quick, especially if it does it during a very short easy drive.
  5. Questions 1 - what is the actual temp and how are you reading it? 2 - Is it puking past the radiator cap or out the overflow tube? 3 - Is it bubbling really bad if you leave the radiator cap off and let it idle until warmed up? 4 - oil in coolant or visa versa? 5 - have you pressure tested the radiator cap? 6 - radiator condition, can you see down into the cores or if they are scaled up and has it ever been acid washed out to get the scale out of the inside and are the fins and cores damaged? 7 - have you watched the radiator hoses to see if they are collapsed and removed them to see if there is any deterioration of flaps blocking the coolant flow? All things that need to be checked when dealing with a rig nearing 50 years old.
  6. Here is a site for Medora which is in the center of the Badlands and Teddy Roosevelt NP with tons of info for the area. It's roughly 100 miles straight west of me. http://medora.com/ Here is a list of campgrounds for the Little Missouri National grasslands which surrounds Teddy Roosevelt national park. https://forestcamping.com/dow/northern/lm.htm
  7. September weather is more predictable but colors are hit and miss not too many trees that turn color in the Black Hills mostly conifers like spuce trees, birch and aspen trees and depending on the weather most trees "The few we Have" don't start to turn until late sept through October here in ND.
  8. June - August are more prone to Bad t-storms, May is just usually super windy Could get 3 feet of snow or 3 inches of rain any day in may here on the northern plains lol.. Heck they can get snow pretty much any month of the year in the Black hills, that place is really goofy weather wise.
  9. HaHa yeah we are the land of extremes, -30 pretty much every winter and colder on occasion and 105+ in the summer is nothing uncommon with 80-90% humidity with it some times. Most schools get done the last couple weeks of may.By the end of may the weather would be perfect for camping, nice warm days 70-90's and cool nights yet much better than the beginning of may which can be very unpredictable yet. You would want to spend a few days in the Black Hills area and also move up north and make base camp in medora to explore the Badlands and grasslands for a couple days or so. The drive up 85 from Spearfish SD to the border town of Bowman ND is very desolate and wide open. Takes a good 3+ hours to get to Medora from Spearfish sd not stopping running at a fair clip. No trip to South Dakota is complete without a stop at Walldrug!!!
  10. Badlands Of South Dakota would be a quicky, not as nice or expansive as ND badlands. The file for Nd basically a list of every camp ground in the state from what I saw.
  11. First week of May is a bit early for site seeing these areas as things can be real iffy weather wise and things could still be covered in snow and things have not come to life yet after winter season. First week of September would definitely be best for both areas. There are many places to stay in the Black Hills area here is a map just for reference. It is a relatively small area and if you pick a spot near MT Rushmore which is close to the middle of the Hills you are only an hour drive to most everything the hills has to offer. Even staging out of Rapid city which is right on the east side of the hills will get you to most places in the Hills within an hours drive. A must see is the Crazy horse monument and plan on being there for several hours to take it all in. Hill City has a lot of things to see and do as well, one of my wife and i favorite spots to take in the museums and such. Spearfish canyon is a beautiful place to go hiking and Deadwood is a fun place too lots of history on the main street and especially if you are into gaming. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGRV_enUS751US751&q=black+hills+campgrounds&npsic=0&rflfq=1&rlha=0&rllag=43947090,-103680871,11841&tbm=lcl&ved=0ahUKEwj-hfCDor7WAhVrwVQKHaSBD9kQtgMISw&tbs=lrf:!2m1!1e2!2m1!1e3!3sIAE,lf:1,lf_ui:1&rldoc=1#rldoc=1&rlfi=hd:;si:;mv:!1m3!1d770613.9061454174!2d-103.51659559999996!3d43.96240515!3m2!1i1500!2i805!4f13.1;tbs:lrf:!2m1!1e2!2m1!1e3!3sIAE,lf:1,lf_ui:1 When it comes to the North Dakota badlands, its a lot more limited as it is a national park bordering national grasslands so most of it is very tough country to access. most Campgrounds are in / around Medora which is by the Theadore Roosevelt national Park the rest has some camp grounds in the north unit and south units of the park and are mostly primitive but in the middle of very beautiful and rough country. Most is best seen by hiking or biking in but there are many drive in public access places but it covers a LOT of area. Highway 85 runs from the black hills of SD @ Spearfish to the north all along the east side of the Badlands / National Grasslands of ND.
  12. So where do you want to camp, North or South Dakota? The Black Hills are in South Dakota, here in North Dakota we have the Badlands. You just insulted both states with the title of this thread lol. I could give advice on both but need to know which area you want to check out, the Black hills of SOUTH DAKOTA are about 3 hours south of the Badlands of NORTH DAKOTA, both are worth the time to check out, The Black Hills is scenic but a huge tourist trap around every single corner, The Badlands of north dakota are pure unspoiled rough natural beauty which Theadore Roosevelt wrote and talked about every chance he got as president since he lived and ranched there.
  13. Must be a Deutz engine, I know Gehl uses them on their older machines. Couyld be a hydraulic issue too, wouldn't spend too much time on the engine until you do a hydraulic tune up first, if the pressures on the hyd pumps are fighting each other a bit will cause this too. Anytime you have issues like this on a hydraulic driven machine the hydraulic system HAS to be checked first. There are quite a few pressures that need to be set properly and if not will definitely affect engine performance.
  14. Yes we worked together here at the coal mine for the last 6+- years or so, he was great to have around he was one of those guys who was handy as all get out and could do most anything mechanical as well as weld and fabricate better than most full time welders. He has a lot of machinist tools for rebuilding his gears lathes and such. He is one of those guys who builds most of his own stuff, I have seen many of his projects and he is one of those guys where things are natural to him that way and gets things done fast on top of it.
  15. Just give Ryan a call at Blue top he is a stand up guy and will walk you through any questions you have. His business has really taken off and he was able to walk away from his 90k+ a year job a month ago to focus on his business full time now. I will miss working with him, he made the days go by faster, he is a comical character all the time. BTW he actually builds some gears and components for Redhead lol. They work together on some things, they contract out some things to him. He told me a while back he appreciated me throwing his name out there and sending him business. I pass this on to you guys for supporting Blue collar America!!!! He is a one man show, he does it all..........for now. Heck you may wind up with another site sponsor out of the call. He drives a 94 cummins 4x4 dually reg cab 5 speed with a home built dump bed.
  16. You were in the average ball park price range for that machine since he threw in a set of tire chains for the hours. That model is about the most common one around, they are everywhere and were built for a long time so parts are easily available. Another thing that could be leaking behind the wheels are the chain case access covers. One needs to check and adjust the chain tension every so often as well. Wouldn't hurt to check it when you get a chance also a good time to check the oil in the chain cases too, this is one area that is vastly overlooked on these machines.
  17. Good to know will definitely keep an eye on things.
  18. Probably has a V2203 Kubota, I just repowered a tractor i bought last summer with one. they are great engines. Can I ask how much you paid for it. The bobcat skid steers are built right here in ND, That one was most likely Built in Bismarck. They do not build them in Bismarck anymore after Doosan bought them out several years back they now build attachments in that factory.
  19. Yeah 2500 miles on oil is wasting a ton of coin. I did a 40K mile run on my 02 doing nothing but filter changes running 15/40 amsoil and the UOA came back looking like new every 5k miles. i changed full flow filter every 5k and the amsoil bypass filter every 10k which was wasting money as well should have been doing it every 15-20k instead. Only reason i changed oil was i opened up the engine for an injector swap. As far as your comment on the new diesels pulling yours sideways lol depending on how new they are telling the truth. The new diesels are pure beasts power wise hands down in comparison. I have driven and ridden in about all the new ones pulling big honkin loads and there is absolutely no comparison. I had to stick thousands and thousands into my 02 to get to the same power level as the new one have stock now. I am a huge believer in UAO. Just an example my 2010 1500 5.7 Hemi OEM reccomends 7500 oil change intervals but the UOA results on 3-4 different types of oil showed the hemi is way too hard on oil to run that long, It holds 7 quarts of oil and i change it every 5-6K miles. The UAO showed the oil looked good but the additive wear package was always near completely depleted at anything close to 7k miles on the oil.
  20. Most likely head gasket starting to weep, most common spot for them to do this. That one looks like it is past the weep stage though.
  21. Funny thing, I actually work with a Scott Funk and you look nothing like him lol.
  22. Been very hazy here in south central ND the last couple weeks also from the fires in Montana and farther west and the northern fires from Canada too. Locally we were in the highest level of draught on the scale but got 4 inches of rain over a 10 day period which has helped in central ND quite a bit actually turned things green for the first time of the season in August that didn't even turn green after the spring thaw. Things are still dry but the severity has lessened since the rain but eastern Montana and North western ND is still desert like and suffered major fires earlier in the season.
  23. Here in my area we saw it at 85% of totality, didn't get as dark as I imagined it would but it was an odd gray dimness that cast shadows through trees I had never seen before. My dogs and cat didn't act any different but the farm yard not far from my house has all sorts of birds and animals and they all started carrying on like they do at night just before roosting time. They started this at the very beginning and carried on until the end of it.
  24. Here is a pic from 3.5 years ago me at about 285 lbs a month or so before starting my healthy grain free lifestyle change and the next one is 3 years later December 2016 at 202 lbs where i have been holding steady for about 2.5 years now. Both pics taken while on vacation in Florida. First fat one was on top of Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas national park off of Key West and the other is at FT Meyers beach.
  25. I was totally disappointed in this post reading the title and then reading the content of it ..........................
