long crankig after vp44 and airdog install
I have an airdog 150 and it typically shows 20-21psi @ idle, never had a problem. This might be completely non related, but I recently had my truck out of the blue take longer to start and it was not fuel related. I had bad grounding thru my starter housing. All three bolts that hold the starter motor to the gear reduction housing together had worked completely loose and caused "hard start" symptoms. You might just crawl underneath and give your starter a good tug and make sure it is solid. GB

Steering wheel locked up while driving! Yikes!
On the way to work this evening, I made a right turn onto a main street and after I completed the turn the steering wheel locked in a right turn. Luckily I got the truck stopped before I hit the new car that was parked on the curb! Once I got stopped I noticed that one of my keys on my keyring had swung into position to become jammed in the back of the steering wheel. There are two holes back there for the mounting hardware for the airbag; which just happened to catch the key! I think I am going to remove all other keys from my truck keys until I can figure out a fix for this. I seem to remember 1993 Dodge Dakotas had a recall for this and issued a fix which consisted of plastic plugs to fill the holes to prevent this from happening. Is my truck supposed to have plugs installed that just did not make it? Just fyi, you all might want to check this out, this could have really been UN-GOOD if it would have happened in a place with more traffic, or pedestrians. GB

Fuel prices thread...
Just filled up in Deming, NM @ $3.02/gallon. Apparently if I drive 30 miles south to Mexico it is $2.65/ gallon.

Front spring replacement
I would not recommend offset ball joints unless you already have a steering problem, I.E; abnormal tire wear, inability to align properly etc... The problem is once you use them, caster will be affected and will have to be compensated for in your caster adjustment. Unless the caster adjustments are equal on both sides of the axle, this can cause the axle to be "twisted" in is relative position in the wheel well. This can add to the whole wandering problem, which our trucks are so fond of. With solid axle trucks, like my 2000 with a Dana 60 unless you have been in a wreck, the camber is pretty well set from the factory. I just went through all this in June so I dug around a lot for the best deal on quality parts. I ended up using MOOG lifetime warranty ball joints through Summit Racing. I price matched them to Amazon.com and ended up getting them for a pretty decent price. If you want to borrow the tools for the job, just pay shipping and your welcome to use mine. Chris

Common Fuel Filter Data
I just purchased the luberfiner LFF9594 and the donaldson P551315 for my airdog 150 and noticed that they do not have internal orings like the original filters my airdog came with. Is this a problem, or will it affect the performance?

You should be able to figure it out if you have a cable piggy-backed to your front brake hoses. GB

I'm Visiting Edge Products Next week
Could you ask them if they could add high idle mode to the edge juice with attitude please. Also ask if they are planning to make an app for android phones which would work like the attitude monitor. Thanks, Chris

UPDATE I called donaldson and found that they make a P550550 that crosses to the LFF9594. The specs I got from them are 20micron absolute, 96% secondary stage 90% emulsified water separation 80 psi collapse 6g of dirt holding and 1.25L per minute which I think works out to be 19.5 gpm ( might check my math on that) Anyway, I ordered one from amsoil the other day and it is on backorder, I may cancel now because I found a supplier who will sell me the LFF 9594 in Less than a case amount...amazing! started my ball joint replacment
You are giving me some bad flashback episodes.... I just did mine in June and yes it was a huge pain. I ended up using a brass drift and a sledge and beat on the heads of the 4 bolts like the manual describes. I then had to heat up the spindle with an oxy/ acetylene torch and worked it over for a couple hours a side. I ended up buying 8 new bolts for the hubs at the dealer after it was all over @ $6 ea You might consider a hub puller with a big side hammer, I wish I would have gone that route, but I did not think of it at the time. Check this out http://quad4x4.com/4x4%20Tools.htm#QT1037 You might be able to get or make this tool, and use it with 10# slide hammer.... Good luck, Chris

Show me your Frantz Toilet Paper Bypass Oil Filter Setup!
Here is my slightly modified Mike Nelson installation: Like Mike I used a 1 inch piece of strap and bent it in a U shape. The main difference I noticed is I made mine a little longer so it would set on top of the battery bracket and then go to the bottom of the battery tray and line up on the hold down bolt. That way it eliminates the chance of the bracket rubbing a hole into the battery. I routed my hoses with a service loop so It would make it easier to change tp too. http://forum.mopar1973man.com/album.php?albumid=51&attachmentid=958 Positives of mounting it inverted: You can easily see if you are starting to get any leakage at the fittings. Negatives: Slight amount of oil left in the bottom of the can when you change elements that you have to dump and clean out before you put your new roll in.

Oil Filter
I use a Fleetguard Stratopore with a Frantz Bypass TP filter.... I would evaluate the filter by the size of particle it can remove in a single pass. GB

In tank fuel pump
I did the draw straw 1 in my sending unit and have been very happy with it. It is a little extra work, but I like that it is all routed through the original sending unit. Chris

Thanks again for the info on the fuel filters AH64! I am looking a supplier for the LFF-9594 that will sell just 1 or 2. So far I have found one that will sell a case of 12. I would be willing to start a group buy if anyone is interested. Chris

Looking for Ideas on intermittant miss.
Just to test the vp44 theory you might get an icepack and set it on the VP44 computer cover when the problem starts and see if it goes away. No I am not suggesting icing your vp everywhere you go, but at least you could narrow down the culprits. GB

Clutch and tranny
Just wondering, what is supposed to be the typical operating temp of the nv5600. I have got mine hooked up to the edge attitude; just never really worried about it... until now, Thanks Hawkeye! If you deside to do your rear main seal, again I would recommend quad4x4.com Looking forward to some pics! I may have to do a clutch in mine after awhile. Good luck and be careful, gravity is rather unforgiving. GB
