Idiots!
Very true, and I was caught in something I tell people not to do.. I should have said Dodge, as Cummins legally can't do anything with our motor once Dodge buys it.. But even still I doubt Cummins says that IS? or QS? needs additives to function properly, they are simply stating we make our own if you want to use them, but nothing bad will happen if you don't. Dodge does not recommend fuel additives for use in any of their motors, even this day on the VP44 trucks. This may be a biased question, but would you run Amsoil or Fleetguard additives if you weren't an Amsoil dealer? I have often considered Fleetguard additives, but I too am an Amsoil dealer and have much easier access to Amsoil products.

12V IAT Readings
Gotcha.. What about the freeze plug? I know on the 3rd Gen head that its not a freeze plug, but a machining plug.
-
12V IAT Readings
Maybe it's the angle, but I thought the one you have labeled as the coolant passage was a plug from head machining, and had the #6 cylinder behind it, not coolant.

cummins california spec
Without the Smarty there probably isn't much you could do... So don't run stock!

Left me stranded today
Best of luck, hope it goes smoothly.

12V IAT Readings
On a 12V the IAT is only used for grid heater operation correct?

cummins california spec
Assuming you have an early 04. Your Cali model is physically identical to the SO model, with the only difference between SO and HO being the style of piston cooler.I don't know about other programmers, but a Smarty or Smarty Jr will make your truck an HO, then add the tune on top of that. So on SW3 on a Jr you are really getting about 170+ hp (70 at the flywheel, and 100 at the ground).

When do you change YOUR oil?
I ran 20K on the Amsoil 5w-30, and 25K on the oil you run. The UOA was always good, but I had a little more wear than anticipated when i swapped cams. Now I will run 15K. I also have a bypass.I would guess on 2nd gen 25K with a bypass would be a non-issue.

On to Canada...I think
That truly is a great drive. I really miss living on the Palouse.

Gauges
Does anyone make a dash top mount for the 2nd gen? I have 3 there and really like the location.

Interesting Reading on Fuel milage
I read that a few years ago, there is some good info in there.

Idiots!
Same reason Cummins tells you not to use additives.

Boost gauge tubing
Thats the same stuff I am running for boost. I need to get my DP switched over one of these days.

turbo help
Is his truck an early 04, or late 04?Either way there are a couple things that can be done to get a little more boost.

fuel pressure
I run a Pricol 0-30psi electric for fuel, it works great. I also run a Pricol 0-100 electric for oil, again no issues.

Lets see your homemade air intake..
What kind of power level are you looking for? Are you pulling down the stock filter minder?

Start Up Issue
I am not sure what model of voltmeter you have, but I recently discovered that mine has a min/max feature (I've only had it for 6 years :banghead:)...

Front Crank Seal leaking/fix?
A local guy, he does great work so I am sure its a defective seal
-
Front Crank Seal leaking/fix?
Yeah, just more of a pain than I should have to deal with in 3K miles.

Red Dye Fuel
Which is just as illegal as red-dyed. I have read about people getting the same fines for it.
-
Start Up Issue
Thats a big voltage drop for nothing happening. Can you see if the voltage changes when you turn the key and nothing happens?
-
Front Crank Seal leaking/fix?
Well I shouldn't have said anything I am getting a bit of oil there again, hopefully the replacement seal is bad... Going to have to take a peak at it today. Only been 3K miles since it was replaced :banghead:

firewood splitting...
So your CWL and your drivers license are one card? That would be super nice!

Clutch and tranny
It depends. If they add the 7th gear as a 2nd overdrive it would different, but if they put it between 1st and direct then you are correct. The rpm band and gearing on these trucks with the 6 speed is perfect, really no need for another gear between 1st and 5th, but a taller and a shorter OD would really be nice.

Silencer Ring
Yeah, my buddies 02 with a S&B and his ring in place is about the same, maybe a little louder, than mine without a ring, and the intake baffles replaced with an Airaid MIT. He was talking about pulling the ring, but he is currently on a week long trip to Glacier from Boise, I am guessing the ring stays in after a 8 hour drive.
