1. Tim told me it was not necessary if you don't have voltmeter, but yes, you need one to set it.
2. I started the swap earlier, im gonna wait till it cools down a little outside to proceed. I have only taken the bumper off so far. Will post pics as I progress.
3. I don't have DRL either. I ordered my Stern harness on april 11 and it has not made it yet. I am gonna send him an email cancelling the order.
4. Well looks like the guy I'm getting my parts from has a dieing vp so we are gonna do some swapping. Looks like I won't be out much money for this whole deal. May go ahead and start on it this weekend. I swear I tried to wait as long as I could.
5. Mike, I will be selling my pump if your 1st gen buddy wants to try the swap.My fass is one of the old ones that is not adjustable, I really want to go mechanical but I am just gonna send it in and have them upgrade me for now.
6. My buddy ran some 3rd gen steel rims on his 98 with 98 hub covers. I feel the same way though, part of the looks of the 3rd gen wheels come from that big hub cover. Might check craigs list for a set.
7. Found out today that my fass 150hpfp will not work with a p-pump so I can either trade up with fass or sell it outright and buy a mechanical pump. I also got the rest of my swap parts today from the donor truck. I am gonna use a 12v tappet cover because it has the built in blow-by tube. I hope I have everything now except the fuel lines.
8. Yes, I still have the edge comp and smarty stacked. I am gonna sell both of them and my vp44. Might have to sell my fass because I don't know if I can get any more pressure out of it since its the old style. A member of the forum already has dibbs on my smarty but if he decides against it then I will let y'all know.
9. John, aren't the houses down here just horrible. I really really hate mowing.
10. I will, I hope to up my mileage. I keep up with every tank so I will be able to tell any little change after I get the timing and all set to my liking. I may go ahead and get another set of injectors and have them set to p-pump pop off pressure since I will have it all apart.
11. John hit it on the head. I have never had any problems out of my vp44 but I don't know how many miles are on it and you never know how long they will last. Its had a fass with good pressure on it since 2007 so I hope it lasts a while longer. I like the simplicity of the mechanical pump compared to all the electronics. I really just love doing these kinds of projects and, kinda like my auto to nv4500 swap. I have gathered all the parts I believe I need including pump gear, gear cover, and throttle linkage. We couldn't get the cam out to get the gear housing so im gonna go work on that again today. I will also need to buy some fuel lines.
12. I am not planning on changing cams, kinda just want to get it changed over cheap as possible but plans might change.
13. Yes, hopefully have a p-pump before the new year. My buddy buys every truck he come across if he thinks he can make some money. I told him to save me the pump before he parted the motor out and he said there was a discount for pulling it myself, so I jumped on it. I say I'm not in a hurry to get it swapped but I may get the itch early. ;)
14. Started gathering parts for the swap today
15. Welcome to the fam Mick.
16. I didn't even know my scangauge would read boost.
17. The problem with that old TDR analysis is, it was done when CI4 was readily available and CJ4 was just hitting the streets. You can only find CI4 in a few different jugs last time I checked and it may all be CJ4 now. I know CAT, amsoil and mystic used to be the only CI4 still available but that was back in 2009-2010. They need to get another test together with the oil we have now.
18. Welcome to the fam dogpie.
19. I carry fuel and oil filters, 3 gallons of oil and gallon of diesel, 3/4 or 19mm open ended wrench, standard tools, 2 stroke oil and transmission fluid.
20. One poster said that diesel clean, cleaned his fuel lines. Did he spill it on the outside and rinse some dirt of the lines?
