  1. The only thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is that you 'may' get a "TRANS TEMP" light, after the swap. I did, on my '96. I just pulled the bulb, though, since the trans temp sensor was no longer there with the 5 speed.
  2. Ok, so many of you may know my transmission issues I've been fighting. I've gotten most of those out of the way.. But the PO didn't have the 47RE's OD button wired up (truck was converted from 4500 to 47RE.) I've been looking at the wiring diagrams on both the 96 and 97. Same wiring, different colors.. In the '96, there seems to be 5 connections of importance on the OD switch: [*]RD - To PCM C13 --> TRANS OD SENSE SWITCH [*]BK - To Ground [*]DB - Fuse 11 10A (RUN) [*]OR - Illum. (Fog Lamp Switch) [*]LG - To PCM C6 --> OD Lamp Driver On the '97.. [*]OR/WT - To PCM C13 --> Trans OD Sense Switch [*]BK/OR - To Ground [*]DB/WT - Fuse 11 10A (RUN) [*]OR - Fuse 13 6A (Fog Lamp Switch, Hot when HL switch in Park) [*]LG/OR - To PCM C6 --> OD Lamp Driver I guess when the switch is depressed, it appears to ground pin1 from pin2. pins 3 & 5 are used to illuminate the OD lamp on the dash (O.D. OFF ?) So that seems simple enough.. NOW.. For the TCC.. I assume I'm contemplating having the option to not engage 4th, unless the toggle is flipped... Same for the TCC.. Trans Solenoid Assembly, Pin 7 (OR/BLK) is TCC Sol. Control, and it goes to the PCM B11. Apparently, it takes a toggle switch.. one leg to the pin7, the other leg of the toggle to a 33 ohm resistor, then on to ground..
  3. If you have everything ahead of time, you can literally swap to 5speed in about 6-8hrs with basic hand tools and a trans jack.. Been there, done that ;)
  4. I spoke too soon, mike.. it started turning itself off again. .. wonder if there's a flaky issue with the pcm...?From the Galaxy S3
  5. Check the governor solenoid, governor pressure transducer, and output-shaft speed sensor. All three of those will cause many of the symptoms you've described.. If the transducer isn't reading proper pressures, then the governor solenoid doesn't know what to do.. The OSS also tells the PCM how fast the truck is going. if this is getting incorrect readings, then the pcm gets confused and doesn't know what gear to select.. I just went through this with my '97 47RE...
  6. Ok I've been road testing it and checking/filling fluid level of trans. So far so good (other than the OSS code P0720), and it took right at 7 qts .Wish me luck. Now I need a clock spring for the srs/cc to work.. and kinda need the srs light to go out for state inspection pass. From the Galaxy S3
  7. Diags were $30. Parts are in. I took s few videos of the process as I went through it. The only issue I had was removing the sensor it had a clip that I did not see. I keep getting the output shaft speed sensor error but I've replaced it so I don't know what the problem is. He said when he ran diagnostics he could see the output shaft speed sensor work all the time. So whatever is causing that code must be intermittent. Mental note: remember and I repeat remember to replace the transmission pan magnet when you clean it. I had to drop the pan a second time to put the magnet back in because my stupid brain forgot. Here, you can see how much bigger the heavy duty solenoid is versus the stock oe unit. The pressure sensors are identical. From the Galaxy S3
  8. Diags was that the pcm was programmed with an unknown vin. So a complete test could not be done. Preliminary testing did point to the transducer though. So here I go... From the Galaxy S3
  9. buy a $600 controller ;) - - - Updated - - - http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48297&highlight=he351VGT
  10. Do you have an autozone or advance auto parts? I know they can order the RP.
  11. Good luck, Tom. Hope all works out well for you.. ...And soon.
  12. I use Royal Purple SynchroMax in the 5600, MAx Gear in the 4500. Redline MTL is recommended, too. http://forum.mopar1973man.com/threads/5768-Nv-4500?p=53132#post53132
  13. So, my buddy is a mechanic.. He sent me this pic today.. 24V Cummins 6 speed.
  14. Well, I broke down this morning and took it to a transmission shop to get a diagnostics test ran on the trans. I'll let you know what the result(s) is/are, as soon as I hear back.
  15. on your 2nd thought.. wouldnt oil start to drip/run down the valve cover?
  16. Ryan, That's NOT how we treat other here, PERIOD. So here's a piece of advice.. Don't come in here acting like you own the place, especially as new as you are here. I've got no problem pulling the plug. THere are several forums where that attitude is acceptable. This is not one of them.
  17. Hydro-locking would definitely do it, as well. But like you said, usually con-rods will suffer, as well.
  18. I had a rear axle seal leaking goop onto the shoes, which would make one wheel really grabby, causing my ABS to activate at random times.. Just something to peak at..
  19. It could be possible that the CC might be a little dirty..You may pick up a little flow, but it'll flow out, what's flowing in..
  20. not really sure how if could change timing on the cam, given they're gear-driven.. unless it shed a couple teeth.. KDP? just thinking out loud here..
