"built" 47RE woes
Thanks, G. I'm trying to find a "picture layout" of what is where, on the 47RE. I'm not familiar with this trans, as it's been several years since I've had one. I do want to check ground and 5V+ reference at the trans solenoid assy. to ensure it's seeing both, as the above codes indicate this could be an issue. I'm at a total loss as to why it worked fine last friday, then not work Monday, not work Tuesday morning, work fine Tuesday afternoon, and again NOT work this morning..

Smokers and Grillers Thread
Adrian, you can still do decent indirect smoking/cooking on that grill, depending on how much you do at a time. It's definitely harder to do, but sure is feasible. The SWB (Side wood box) will be a great addition to it. Even with your new grill, a few mods and you'll have an excellent smoker for personal use. And by "a few mods", even small things like a water heater blanket to help the thinner metal retain the heat, making a cheap metal baffle for the heat dispersion, etc. You'll also want some 3" dryer hose (metal) and extend the stack down to grate-level, inside.IMO, it's best to start off smoking something like pork, say, ribs or a pork tenderloin. This will be a relatively short smoke time (3-4hrs), and pork is more forgiving if you over-cook it. With beef, the "window of opportunity" is much smaller, and they can go from perfect to overdone in a heartbeat! Hit it at about 250*F grill temp and monitor the temp of the grill AND the meat. Usually, with the PTL, I'll pull it, wrap in foil, and put it back on the grill when it reaches about 140*, and pull it to rest at about 165-170.

"built" 47RE woes
Ok, so I got rid of my 24V with headaches, and apparently picked up a 12V with someone else's headaches.. So, out of the frying pan, into the fire.I've been working out some kinks on this '97. I test drove it last friday, and from what I recall, it seemed to be fine.. Unless I didn't notice it (my fault for lack of due-diligence.)At any rate, the issue (for this thread) is the transmission.Story goes: 2 owners ago, dude bought a Jasper trans, installed it, killed it, warrantied it, killed that one, warrantied it, killed it, then Jasper said "this is your last one."so he pulled the 5spd from this '97, installed the Jasper auto in it, and stuck the 5 speed into the truck that he was using to kill transmissions. However, he did a ____-poor job, and sold it to last owner, who killed the poorly/improperly incomplete install in short order. So he took it to a diesel trans guy in MD, who rebuilt the Jasper trans using triple disc TC, red clutches, kevlar bands, HD valve body, etc. (parts from HTS Diesel).Installed a PCM (to replace a non-existant one) and rewired everything, so to speak, or so the story goes.Fast forward to me.. ( I don't need any "I told you so" type stuff, because I know. Believe me, I know.. One word: Wife. )I drove it home last friday, and all seemed well, although I did notice it seemed to rev a little higher to get it moving.. Granted, I'm new to autos, as my '01 was a manual, and the '96 before that, was manual, so I'm somewhat rusty on how they perform/react. Thought maybe the TC had a little higher stall.Last night, my 7 y.o. daughter wanted to ride around the block in the new dually.. Wish granted. That's when I noticed that something wasn't quite right... No low/1st gear engagement. Neither with shifter in D, or if I manually drop it to L (1), nothing, nada.. it seems to stay in 2nd gear or so.. I will add that if in D, at a stop, let off the brake and the truck starts to creep forward.. give a little throttle and drop it into 2nd, it feels to almost 'drop' a gear, as the forward progress seems to be a more positive engagement, but still no 1st. Driving 30mph, slow prepare for a stop sign, drop lever to 2, it downshifts.. drop to 1 from like 10mph, no gear change/drop occurs.. it stays in 2nd..TC lockup and such works, and with the 4.10s, 60-65mph yeilds about 1900-2000rpm.The Coolant Temp Sensor circuit is fubar somewhere, as is the tach in the I/C. The tach does read through the scan gauge, however, so the Crank Position Sensor seems to be operational.I was told this trans has a 3/36 warranty, but getting that info is proving to be a tad on the tough side..Trans looks fresh, complete with gray paint, Jasper stickers, etc., so it was apparently rebuilt in the Jasper case.Help. I need to troubleshoot this as inexpensively as I can, for obvious reasons.

Oldie, but thought I'd share.. Conservative and Liberal points of view.. (humor)
This email accurately, gently but perfectly, explains the difference in thinking between people with opposite outlooks. A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, she was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words; redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his. One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over." Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA." The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!" The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence." If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test! If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed. If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat. If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone. If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him. If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down. If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and Jesus silenced. If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his. If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A liberal will delete it because he's "offended." Well, I forwarded it to you!

If looking at the back of the radio, its in the top right area? If so, that's for steering wheel controls for volume and channel select. If your steering wheel doesn't have the buttons on the backside of the steering wheel, then no need to worry with this plug. From the Galaxy S3

12V issues
Thanks ISX. Additionally, today I notice I cannot reach 1st gear in the auto. Neither manually with shift lever or letting it do it automatically. It's starting out in 2nd gear, no matter what I try. I've got a message in to the previous owner to get me warranty info and contact info. Trans was apparently built back in Feb of this yr with a 5yr 36k mi warranty so we'll see..Hidden code is P1764. Dodge v10 to cummins diesel swap
Hi Chris, and welcome. For starters, the V10 and Cummins have the same bell-housings/transmissions, from what I remember. The 12V has very few electrics, and the trans controller should definitely be the same, IIRC. There are subtle differences in sensors and their connectors. I believe the radiator and such is also the same. You should be able to swap most stuff from the 97 into the 99 "fairly easily".. Trans-wise, you'll need to swap the tailshaft sections of the v10's trans onto the diesel trans, in order to use the t-case essentials.. That is, if you don't want to retain your v10's transmission.I know this info doesn't help a lot, but it should give you something to go on, direction-wise. And welcome to the family

The TP is Smaller.............But is My Arse Getting Bigger???
I went in the Army at 145 in '86. Got out in '94 at 170. Now, I'm a rolly-poley 235. I keep saying I need to fix that, but I don't... My bloodline is like dave's.. smaller seats, skinny legs and arms. but gut, moobs and love handles are cursing me.I've noticed the TP rolls getting smaller. I'm a 'tactical' TP user. My wife and kids, however, spin that stuff off the roll like it's tickets at a carnival..

Best Comeback.........Ever!!!
LOL! nice. I'm very sarcastic or sexual referencing and a real dry humor. My wife of 12+ yrs knows this, and expects nothing less to come out of my mouth.I can turn anything into a sexual reference, to which she now either acts as if I didn't say it, or turns it into a big deal; no middle ground. She was belly-aching this weekend about something with her garden, at which it turned into a mild "discussion". She made a comment that was kinda uncalled for (but no big deal), to which I turned away slightly, looked upward, held up my hands and said.. "...and that's why I killed her, your honor."That's when I got his with an airborne yellow squash. LOL

12V issues
Hello, folks! So, maybe I've been out of the 12V too long. Maybe, I don't remember as much as I thought I did, in the 12V world...I was looking over this '97 Saturday. In looking to see if there was a boost elbow added, I noticed there wasn't. By that, I mean, there was no boost nipple of any sort, on the compressor housing. The WGA is not bolted/connected to the the compressor housing, by any way/shape/form.. It sticks down, low, almost at a 7 oclock position, on the plane of the exhaust housing. The boost line goes from the WGA up under the exhaust manifold, between the 4 & 5 rocker covers, and over to the backside of the injector pump/AFC assembly.. WTF?

Smokers and Grillers Thread
Hey, Chef! ;) Yeah, they were slightly overdone, but still dee-lish! I've never brined anything.. yet. But I will, soon. I checked out the Treager smoker grills, but at 700$, I passed. I did toy with the idea about using their pellets, however. I see they often have them at Costco, but not very often. I have both a propane smoker and a wood smoker. I can say that, IMPO, I think the wood smoker seems to produce better tasting food. However, I have also considered fabbing up a propane burner to slide into the SWB (Side Wood Box). Then I can do the initial 4hrs of smoking with charcoal/wood, then after the 4 or so hrs, switch over to propane by simply sliding out the ash drawer, and slide in the propane burner.

12V issues
I got the truck last evening. Monday I'll get it registered. It throws a trans code about pressure or something. Ill go get the code in a sec. I can clear it, but it come right back on restart. Also it stays in first gear a little long. Sometimes I'll get chatter feeling on takeoff. I'd this how a triple disk acts? It's just slightly noticeable and mot every time. From the Galaxy S3
