Replacing head gasket
They did have to deck it which was not a surprise. I dont remember how much they had to take of but it was minimal. And it was crack free.

2006 Dodge 3500 - MPG
Maybe you should put some pontoons on that truck and see what mileage you get then.

Replacing head gasket
Mine failed in the same place as yours @01_Cummins_4x4. The gasket just rotted away. I noticed it weeping around 430k miles and drove it another 25k to 30k before the water leaked enough to drip on ground. Thats when changed it. I would have changed it sooner but work kept getting in the way.

Oil drip on Driver's side (problem?)
Did mine a few tears back and installing the seals was the easy part. I also unbolted the ps pump and left it hanging. Then pulled the vacuum pump. I dont think there is bolt down there thats easy to get to. Still not a terrible to do.

Truck randomly dies. Please help, pulling my hair out, and loosing sleep!
What bolt did you over look? Inquiring minds would like to know. I did my cluster test by holding the trip button down then turning the key to on. Chec will appear in the odo and it runs a self diagnostic. When I did mine the WTS came on both times after the test was over. I would think your 01 would do the same trick. But you never know. You might try it when your lift pump shuts down and see what happens. You might just try it to see if it works your 01. The 2nd gen 24v's seem to have a lot differences thru there short span.

I am counting on mine not being the ECM. But you never know. I will keep digging for grounds and and checking connectors.

Truck randomly dies. Please help, pulling my hair out, and loosing sleep!
I went back did a little rereading. My truck is going something very similar. It has cut off while idling and momentarily cut off while under throttle for a split second. It always restarted and never set a code. Then about 2 weeks ago on the way to work it shut and did not restart. I managed to get into a parking lot and that when I noticed the lift pump was working. Played some and swapped the lift pump relay with another and it the pump started running and the trucked fired right off. Took of and made it a half and she shut down again and would not restart, fuel pump dead also. Just played around with it and the pump starting working so tried make back to the house and it shut down again. This time it would not restart and I had to get a tow home. While messing with it at the house I finally noticed the WTS light was not illuminating. I also had a 1694 code. Did a lot head scratching since the electronics is far from my strong suit. I whim I ran the test on the instrument cluster since it is in middle of both ECM and PCM. After that the WTS illuminated. I have no idea why that happened. I took for test spin and sure it shut down again with not WTS light. Ran the cluster test again and the WTS illuminated. The next few days I idled the the truck for several hours, made a couple 10 mile round trips and it flawlessly. Then the day I decide to take it work it shut down after 20 seconds but restarted and the WTS was illuminating. I took off up the road and glitched 3 times under throttle be immediately came back to life. So quick I never had a chance to lift the throttle. I figured screw I am going to work and it has not done it again since the first 2 or 3 miles last Monday. Now mine never had any code other that the 1694, no APPS codes. So if yours shuts down again with no WTS light run the cluster test and see if it comes back. I have no idea as to why that worked on mine. Coincidence maybe, but if works on yours there is something to it. I wrote this up in a thread titled Dead Truck in this same section.

Thinking about getting a 3rd gen.
Told my son a couple months ago I might drop 10k on my truck after I retire. Pretty much told me I was crazy. Then he found a deal on a 98 model S10 pickup for 800 bucks. He loved the S10's several years back and I believe he has caught old truck bug just like his daddy. I am loving it.

Does the adrenaline affect the e c m
At least they would need to know how to deal with the Quad if its on there as long they have interest in it. Alas no one in family gives a rats behind for my truck. None of them are into working on anything mechanical. I am pretty much the only one that parents raised tha gave a hoot about working on anything. Just the way it is for me.

If the ecm is seeing little to no bost it will not fuel. I have two map sensors fail for what ever the reason. I would think the map sensor is bad but it is an exspensive part to just throw at it. I did however find a cheap a while back it resides in truck now 10 months or so later. I bought from Fridayparts.com I believe. You can see where it comes from and when i bought them they were $15 apiece. Delivery is not fast. Had the same 237 code. If you know some one that has a spare to try I would do it just to test. Mine died with the same 237 code. But the boost reading on mine were 0. So WT could be right on the boost leak, but that should not be hard find. And it is pretty much free to check. If I am not mistaken the MAP and oil pressure sensor share the signal wiring also on seperate lead from the other sensors.

Thinking about getting a 3rd gen.
I bought mine new in 01 and was tickled to death to have a new truck. She has treated me well over the 20 years I have had her and deserves a make over. I have let a lot of the exterior looks just take there toll over the years but hope to bring some of that back after retirement. After every where we have gone together she deserves a face lift. While having another new truck is tempting, 6 years of payments is not. I remember the sticker shock I went thru back then. $35k

Noticed Deteriorated Rubber Vac Line While Installing Injectors What Is It For?
The vacuum system on these trucks is fairly simple. My 02 manual only has vacuum for the hvac and the CAD on the front axle and some for the transfer case. Auto's have a line for the cruise. Just replace the old with some new. If the system is leaking bad enough it will pump air into the block and blow oil out of the motor.

Doing a conversion from Auto to standard
Is the g56 able to swap straight into a nv5600 truck? Sorry @wagntagn but I had to ask. Is the g56 a straight swap in for a nv 5600? Sorry @wagntagn I had to ask.

Nationwide Weather
A few words from the other side of the fence. i got vaccinated as soon as it was available to me. i do realize this was produced rather quickly, a product of operation Warp Speed as I recall. I still believe it was right thing to do for me, my wife and MIL. Folks have died from this virus by the 100's of thousands. We may never know the true numbers since I do believe that some that died was because it was the last straw there system could take. By that I mean a lot deaths maybe should not have attributed to the virus. If you go back read about the flu pandemic that hit the world back 1919 and 20 the death rate was way beyond what we have experienced. Folks back then met that with same trepidations the we are seeing now and the death rate from that pandemic made this one look like cake walk. Now that being said, I did not write this to tell anyone they are wrong, last time checked this is still free country and we all have the right to believe what you want to believe. And I have the utmost respect for all my friends and members here. Just my worth. On a different note, my chickens might have 3 legs but I never grew anything odd on me after the vaccination.

Brake Pedal Slow to Return
Possibly the the soft lines are restricting the fluid return when applied firmly. They do tend to wear with time and cause some dragging. It is one of the items on my soon to do list with caliper rebuild. Had to put that on the back burner while trying to figure out my electrical glitch.
