  1. Hoping to get to work on my trucks after tomorrow. Have 5 days I gave myself between jobs.. Want to finish the install of injectors, pushrods, and valve springs and have enough time to tune before the first sled pull. On the list is also ohming out the MAP harness and planning up a fix for a fuel leak from the hoses breaking down going into my lift pump.. Thinking of hardline along the frame to braided line for the motor/lift pump to account for movement.. Mother Nature isn't looking cooperative the whole holiday weekend though, chances of rain Sat-Mon.. hope not.. If I finish with my Cummins, I might start on the front end and finish rebuilding the exhaust of my little green truck.. Weather permitting..
  2. Can never tell with text only, caused more than a few arguments with my ex-gf.. Might be running into efficiency issues with the actual housing.. The compressor housing is only meant to flow like 50-60 lbs of air through it.. you have a wheel that similarly sized s363's flows over 70lbs, with the even larger s364.5 flowing at or over 80 lbs.. I know that there's more too it than just putting up numbers. Especially since the sx-e isn't even from the same company but I'm working with what I got..
  3. @dieselautopower, are the numbers he's saying normal? Just looking for some insight and other questions to ask.. @SVALIN, what are you looking to achieve? Figure out the boost difference from the waste gate being pinched off? Doesn't sound like you are having EGT issues or anything like that.. I'm not implying anything other than the turbo you have has hx40 parts stuffed in it. Not a bad thing either, I've just never seen those wheels used together.. Usually people go all the way to the 67mm turbine wheel with some combo of the 60, 62, 64, or 67mm compressor wheels available for the HX35.
  4. Google sheets is what i use to make my quadzilla graphs. I find that since sheets is more stripped down it is easier to utilize. After doing some digging, your turbo is a super hx40 10 blade turbine with a milled out hx35 compressor.. reverse hx35/40 hybrid essentially lol. 400 psi gauge is a bit on the high side.. If you are hitting 60 psi on back pressure, im not sure what the spring preload is, but im guessing that it would be blowing open... Were those measurements with the wg plugged? Those are more what you would see with a 60/60/9 he351cw..
  5. Little late to the party but here goes.. First, a question, why the 64/64/12? Diesels don't generally like the wheels being too close in diameter.. Causes surging in some cases. *not gospel, see he351cw, hx35/40 hybrids* Second, try the boost elbow first (cheap and simple to swap) then do back pressure measurements. if back pressure is in the 1.5-2x more than boost range (if I'm remembering this correctly), its too high.. might be over 2x boost.. This is one of those where setup matters significantly for the outcome. If you are over fueled and trying to squeeze the exhaust into an he351cw's 9cm housing with the 60mm turbine, pressure is going to build up in the manifold and can cause essentially reversion and act as in cylinder egr. Swap it out with a larger turbine and or housing and suddenly things can breathe freer and back pressure drops. And here is where I think I'm arguing the wrong point on your statement I think the only point that this would be an issue is in an over fueled small turbo. if you have more fuel to add to a wastegated small turbo, the turbo doesn't technically have anymore air to add to the extra fuel to cool things off. I think I need to chew on this a bit more..
  6. I don't disagree with what you are saying @Mopar1973Man. When my HX35 was still in (granted too small of tires for 4.10s) I could almost match everything that you have mentioned except cruise egts (450-550°f at 45-55, 650ish at 70) and oil temps (+5-10°F). Even sled pulling with all 2200us of wire tap I only just barely broke 1100°f nearly all if not all of my pulls. I have 7x.011s at 320 bar waiting to go in but I was hoping to fix my cylinder head before I put those in. Not sure that's gonna happen this season since my first pull is in a couple weeks. Might have to put everything in and deal with it for a bit.. If I had to do things over again I'm really not sure what I would go with. One thing I'm heavily leaning towards is a 12cm housing. Multiple places seem to have a consensus that the 12cm housings just respond better overall than the 14cm housings. Might be worth the drop in horsepower... We shall see how things go.
  7. Logs depend on what you are looking for.. Might be better to mark the time over multiple exports since the Quad has a time stamp you can reference. Truth be told, I'm experiencing similar issues but for opposite reasons.. I'm still running 50s with a 62/68/14. Accelerating up an on ramp onto the highway puts me at 1300°f or more if I am not watching what things are doing. And a max of 25psi. At this point I'm almost convinced I cant drive the turbo hard enough. but 700-900°f EGTs are common on anything resembling a hill. And if its a noticeable hill, 1200°f... I also have the same issue with oil and coolant temps. The next part might need its own dedicated thread, but I wonder if the 4.10s and HO model engine impact things to such a degree over an SO engine. I've brought it up before but that was more for the timing specific to the HO VP44.. And there goes my work day lol, gonna be noodling that all the day ..
  8. Well today I pulled the trigger and put in my 2 weeks at my drafting job. Going with the locksmith position. This is gonna be a fun ride. Need to get some things squared away in those two weeks as well..
  9. Unless the Quad you bought was a Quad 4K, use the standard v2 tuning. There are hardware differences between the modules as well as software.
  10. Update - got a call for the go ahead from the locksmith I had applied to, but at my last dentist appt 2 weeks ago, they informed me that I need to have either a root canal done or the tooth removed entirely. so now im in a tight spot.. Things got swapped on my reeeaally quick all of a sudden... need to pick up the pieces though
  11. From what I have been told, Putin is ex-KGB and was around for Soviet Russia and wants that back... Depending on what part of the KGB he was part of that might explain the feeling.. I have also heard that he now has cancer and seems to have a limited clock left..
  12. After the past two years and lately especially if friends or family are asking if I'm doing alright, I'm starting to say eh or I don't know anymore.. Its my firm belief that everyone right now not in upper politics is so burnt out on all the bull that we have to sift through or ignore after having it shoved in our faces, but we have to keep doing something resembling our normal routines.. Our bodies and minds have had check engine lights on but we have had to put the electrical tape over the light and deal with it later.. Unfortunately, like with most machinery, you only have so long before repairs or down time is necessary.. After talking with my therapist and some close friends, the burnout that nearly everyone is in is also pushing people into survival mode. That semi-mindless, over tired, instinctual state of no manners and short fused tempers. The only people that matter is yourself first, family second (situation dependent), and everyone else can wait until after everything is better.. The hardest part for anyone in that mode is getting out of it, especially when the things that put you there are still out and about. Think about the stray animals that wont let you touch them for a time after you bring them in.. Survival mode also puts so much stress on the mind and body that any extra energy you would normally have to do the little extra things around the house or interact/help others is diminished severely or gone entirely, there's just no more bandwidth to add something too... Granted these are over simplifications but the general idea is there.. This whole situation across all fronts is not good. Short tempers all around, I'm kind of surprised more stuff hasn't happened here in the states...
  13. Haggar still posts every now and then.. But I agree.. This is one of the only forums that I regularly come to because its genuinely nice to be around.. Might be life getting in the way a bit more.. or they have moved on from the second gens.. IDK.. this forum (as a whole/community) is less of a discussion board and more of like either a fire dept. or coworkers.. we all have different backgrounds to bring to the table but we are all here for one common thing.. And we all help each other figure out our issues or listen to the rants or give advice.. I think we are closer than people on like Cummins Forum, Turbo Diesel Register, or Diesel truck Resource.. I mean meet ups are one thing, but going camping is another..
  14. I was wondering about that.. or thats how they are really getting all those extra sheets.. @IBMobile I think its age too. I dont think the pump has digital numbers.. might be roll arounds..
  15. @LorenS, Eaton doesnt make a truetrac for a 70? Otherwise the factory limited slip is the same clutch pack style.. gear style didnt come factory until this past gen power wagon i think.. Just looked.. theres one for the 70HD but not a regular 70.. weird..
  16. Oh the gulf station.. yeah no, there have been multiple people who got diesel from there had water in fuel issues after 1 fill up from there.. We avoid fuelling at that place like the black plague.. 3 of the 5 stations in town are owned by the middle eastern persuasion, the shell and cumby's in town are not and are a bit nicer as well.. The ice cream shop attached to the gulf is excellent though..
  17. I had heard rumors a few weeks ago of high 5's to 6 bucks a gallon.. Then this past weekend, my local gas station was 4.99/5.09 then overnight it was 6.09/6.19 then this morning it was 6.15/6.25! Seriously, what happened? Its a sad state that my no cat, no O2 sensor 1500 at first glance is the better option to drive than my Cummins.. Now I really need to get my bike battery charged or swapped.. 50 mpg on 3 gallons is better than anything else I have right now..
  18. If im going down that path, then i should let you know i did have the wires break last time i had the head off i think, or prior to that.. cant remember. So i soldered a new pigtail on. Could that have caused issues?
  19. Tried for a longer boost hold to see if things even out but I think I have too many transient boost locations and not enough locations to hold boost.. Need to get up on the highway, but diesel just hit over $6.10/gal here.. We'll see how this goes.. This is 200ish time stamps so about 50 seconds-ish of data.. Maxes at about a 4-5 psi differential between sensors.. Same setup as above. I don't know weather to call this a slow map sensor, a misreading sensor, or what.. All I know is I need to do something because this is making daily driving interesting.. Truck has no get up and go.. Even more so when cold..
  20. @Max Tune, when was the last time you dumped the cookies, history, and what not from your browser? close apps on the phone (if on mobile)? And if you use Google, clear that out too..
  21. Lowest fueling would be zero.. The fueling command/canbus fuel is the 0-4095 number you see tossed around.. Engine load is that number converted to a 0-100% scale. Canbus fuel is a signal only I think.. vp44 decodes that and converts that into a milliseconds of energized for the fuel solenoid. Amount of fuel is the byproduct of this.. I think the system does this as a stall check or something. Possibly part of the idle validation system.. Rpms are too high for idle so it cuts fuel to bring them down, and its just checking at random intervals.. If you had idle levels of fuel injected at a coast the volume of fuel that could build up could potentially hydrolock the engine.. Maybe ... Need to noodle this idea some more..
  22. @LorenS, even on a computer I make a new tab for the articles page to copy and paste from.. @Shimritz, if you put an "@" symbol before a screen/user name you can directly tag someone if you so choose.
  23. https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/electrical/ground-reference-vp44ecmpcmpdc-plus-tc-lockunlock-r567/?do=getNewComment&d=4&id=567 https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/electrical/w-t-ground-wire-mod-simplified-r574/page/2/?tab=comments#comments the original article isnt directly "w-t mod" so i grabbed them for you .
  24. huh.. wonder why the difference? engine load reads 0 all the through the hill unless I push the clutch in.. but my canbus does the bouncy bounce alternating between 0 and 3-13 (when coasting in gear)..
  25. mine is zero with the can bus fuel going to like 3-13 every now and then.. but more or less I would call it shut off.
