Midna's build
Spring gate might work best for you.. thats a lot of interference.. How did you end up taking the pipe out of the block?

Midna's build
Anyone ever done a braided turbo drain line? How much of a PITA is it getting the pipe out of the block? Need some guidance on how to do that... Finally got my parts but the weather isn't cooperating.. High, high 50s-raining or threatening to rain. Sunny and gorgeous? sorry 30s is all we can do.. Anyway.. the Rally Road flange fitting is a really nice piece but the holes were too small. Drill bit took care of that. Otherwise, it seems to be a quality part, the machining was very good even by my company's standards. Only thing I wish was a full dovetail O-ring groove and black anodized. But I know the full dovetail groove is an expensive item to machine, so I get it. Had other ideas to avoid pulling the pipe in the block if I could but turns out that the silicone hose that goes there is 7/8" ID. Equates to a -14 AN hose size. Guess what size isn't offered anywhere.. 7/8 or -14 AN.. So, back to pulling the pipe out of the block. I've had the idea of taking a pipe cutter for like copper piping and seeing if I can cut the pipe after the bend and get some sort of puller in there but I don't know how its pressed in there (O-rings, normal press fit, other?). I really don't want to take the oil pan off either. even though it would probably be the easiest to get that part out..

Dripley is Okay....
It's been a couple months, any news on @dripley? He had a lot on his shoulders last some of us heard.. Hope he's doing alright.

Replacing battery
There's only like 4 3 (large) car battery manufacturers as it is so odds are you are getting a similar product at one place as you would the other. What the companies are, I don't know off hand. Did some digging while writing: East Penn (makes your household duracells too, also makes the Deka brand batteries) Johnson Controls now Clarios (most brands, seriously. 50% of the market is their product) Stryten.. according to consumer reports.. never heard of them. (turns out to be Exide and another company merged together) and I thought I read somewhere that Siemens-Deka was the other one. (nope not this one) Exide was the other one I found. As @Mopar1973Man said, if you live in the cold one really isn't enough but I know some people do a "battery delete" when they run side by side twin turbos. You can hear a difference regardless of temperature when you crank the truck over. I run a pair of Autocraft silvers, from Advance in mine. Never had an issue. Depending on the set of cables and what is still hooked up, there will likely be cutting and splicing even with premade ones. Make sure to get 1/0 (one aught) cable minimum.

Painting Valve Cover
12 bucks a pound for that one. But you need to find a powder coater to spray and bake the part... Prismatic Powders does have a paint match type search but its I think a bit driven by consumers.. Meaning it relies on the buyers/powder coaters to tag it on the website as that color..

Need a sanity check.. changing careers
Sorry for the wait guys, and thank you for your insights. I'm waiting to hear back from a place so I can put things in motion. I nearly walked out last week so my head space has been a bit wacked since then. Hard part is I'm bordering on desperate to leave, like I'd take a gas station job if it meant I was out of here. The place happens to be a locksmith shop that my friend has worked at for a few years. They are looking for a shop person, someone to handle calls and walk-ins, making keys, some light rekeying possibly later on, and possible car key reprogramming. I'll probably have to go to some classes for this but it's closer to how I function with (in?) a job. Granted I've only had 2 jobs in my life so far (my current drafting one and as a gas station clerk), but working a gas station was actually the job I had the most fun at. I was relatively happy in my mind set. Pay wasn't great but this was also 10 years ago.. Then I got my current job, things were fine until the newness wore off, then it slowly became more and more tedious to wake up and get to work. And now I'm here lol..

Painting Valve Cover
Prismatic Powders has a powder coat that looks nearly identical to patriot blue pearl. Its called Misty Midnight. But it is a powder coat so that adds cost to the project. Thought I'd share.

Midna's build
Small update. Waiting for parts to arrive, wanted to do something a bit different than what was available for flexible drain lines. Ordered an o-ring'd drain flange from a place called RallyRoad.net. Took a week to get a shipping confirmation, but just looked and it still hasn't been given to USPS. Not enthused with them so far.. We'll see what the quality is like when it gets here. But if it takes much longer, IDK.. Might get one from a different company. Tried supporting a local race shop near me, but its sometimes hard with semi oddball sizes like push-lok -10 AN fittings. Unfortunately, they only had straight hose ends, and only had a 15 foot roll of -10 push-lok hose. So I bought the hose, despite only needing like 18-24 inches of hose at most. Ordered the fittings from Summit, should be here Saturday. In hindsight, I probably should have just gotten the hose from Summit at the same time. I have no experience with braided stainless line so that's why I went with the push-lok hose. In other news, I actually found a powder coat that matches patriot blue. Its from Prismatic Powders and is called misty midnight. https://www.prismaticpowders.com/gallery?htids=Misty Midnight PMB-4239. Oh boy do I have ideas now..

And so it begins…
You have the makings of 450-500hp in a tow rig with that turbo. I haven't personally had Weston's injectors but from what I've heard they are some of the best available. Never heard of an HX40 being a 62/65/12, but Smedding does custom turbos so anything is possible. My brother runs that same size but as an SXE S362 and tows his flatbed gooseneck with his p24v truck. It cools well, spools well (could be faster with vp44 instead of p-pump) and we haven't had an issue with it. Weston's (Infinite's) injectors should run fairly clean. Idle haze maybe, but I'm not sure.

Head studs, valve springs, what else?
This was the format we used to use when sharing tunes or looking for help tuning on the forums. If you have had a chance to look in the custom tuning area on your Quad, you can post it like this.. Power Levels: Timing Max Load Timing Offset: Low PSI Timing Reduct: Timing Reduct Scaling: Light Throttle Timing Adv: Light Throttle Timing Load Limit: Timing vs rpm 1500: 2000: 2500: 3000: Timing Max: Wiretap Pump Stretch: TPS Pump max: TPS Pump Min Minimum Pump Tap Fueling Percentage: Pump Low Boost Scale PSI: Boost Scaling: RPM Limit: Power Reduction: 0 PSI %: 1 PSI %: 2 PSI %: 3 PSI %: 4 PSI %: 5 PSI %: 6 PSI %: 7 PSI %: 8 PSI %: 9 PSI %: 10 PSI %: 11 PSI %: 12 PSI %: 13 PSI %: 14 PSI %: 15 PSI %: 16 PSI %: 18 PSI %: 20 PSI %: 22 PSI %: 24 PSI %: 26 PSI %: 28 PSI %: 30 PSI %:

Head studs, valve springs, what else?
If you open up the custom tuning area of the Quadzilla that will tell you right away if there are tunes in there. Otherwise you were running on an odd (poor) timing curve (I mean line), and factory dodge fueling with bare minimum wiretap. You also set how much wiretap you are adding as well. So a hot tune is only as hot as you make it. Then the levels break that further down. I only run 6 total levels because I don't like pushing a button a million times since it doesn't really matter what the amount of levels are. I wish I could actually go less to 5 total because I run level 3 in my day to day and only play in level 5 when I'm sled pulling or playing. I don't have a need for 50% wire tap.. Unless that changed recently, 6 total levels (have to include zero) was the minimum. Upload to YouTube and paste the link instead of putting the video on the website. File size is probably too big.

Head studs, valve springs, what else?
Honestly, everything you need to build your tune from out of the box stock to custom tuned is on here.. Just need to dig for some of it. I'm not against paying for tunes, but some of those were from early Quadzilla knowledge, back when 15° in the 1500 band was the recommended start point. Not all have been kept up to date to my knowledge. Hardest things to figure out: - Nomenclature. Some things have weird names and aren't intuitive. - What some of the timing push/pulls do. Other than that, it isn't as hard as people make it out to be.. Its not like EFILive . If you want a true race tune start at 100% for like 0-5 psi, then go up in 5% increments until its at 150%.. Wire tap probably 16-1800us range starting at 5 psi.. Fueling wise at least. its gonna be smokey and hot but it should rip.. Timing needs a bit of reference on my end to get you a good start. Been a while since I played with my Quadzilla due to my truck being down.. If you want a clean race tune, that's a different story.. @Mopar1973Man, don't know if you been asked this but, do you have a race tune hiding on your Quad?
-
Head studs, valve springs, what else?
If you have no tunes installed, its not a lot of wire tap, only 1400us. But you also have a 63mm turbo.. That makes a difference lol. Also, power levels over 3, so 4 and up, are divisions of 100% wiretap. In the settings, I run 6 power levels, 0-5, with 4 being 50% wire tap and 5 being 100% wire tap. Also those percentages are of the user specified wire tap amount. Meaning the 1400-2200us number. Happy tuning!

Need a sanity check.. changing careers
I could deal with the dirty everyday. I think the part that would get me is the you have other stuff wrong with your vehicle and they decline the fix. My conscience would have a break down over that. I had even thought about doing fleet maintenance for a company but working on my moms truck kinda drove home that I don't want to fix others car problems.. I understand why mechanics charge what they do..

Need a sanity check.. changing careers
Holy crap, I didn't realize I put this up 7 months ago.. I'm still at the same job.. dealing with some setbacks. I was working on my moms truck doing a thermostat fix and I came to the realization that I didn't want to do mechanic work for a living.. Kind of a "keep that a hobby, don't let money/becoming your income ruin it" deal.. So that put me back on what to do for a career.. I started thinking about what I liked and didn't like about the jobs that I have had. I think I settled on getting my CDL and going over the road trucking for a bit. But that isn't without its major considerations. It's a major lifestyle change, and I'm hesitant.. no wrong word.. I'm scared about it. Between being away from home for as long as some of those guys are, and the solitude, I'm worried about how long I'd last. I don't know, maybe I'm making mountains out of mole hills.. I also have things I have to do before I can sign up for a CDL school. Get one, preferably both, of my 2nd gens on the road, sell my 2019, and figure out some boarding for my dog at least while I'm at school/training. I would like to do a company training school so that I have a semi guaranteed job on the other side of training. I do have two companies in mind, Millis Transfer and Roehl transport. Millis has benefits and pay I like, Roehl has a home time package that possibly would benefit me for sled pulling a bit better. But I think that Sled pulling might have to go on pause for a bit for me to do either of those companies, which bums me out because I am on my 3rd year as a member and 2nd points year. I also need to look at Roehl's pet policy, I'm bringing my dog with me once I get my truck, if I get hired of course. Part of the issue with Roxie (my dog) is for the 3-4 weeks of school I need to find somewhere to board her, then when I go out of on the road training (20-50K miles), I need to do the same thing. My parents aren't keen on having her because they have cats and my dog wont leave them alone. My brother already has a dog and is in an apartment smaller than mine.. I don't know.. part of this post is a looking for insight and part of it is actually putting my thoughts on "paper" and seeing if things look right.. I also think I have to sh!t or get off the pot.. This job is starting to ruin my mental health..

Xotic vs ARP Head Studs
Just gonna toss my 2 cents in on this.. Because my work place deals with aviation and gov't/military sales, we have to have all the specs for each material we make parts from. They (the specs) specify what materials make up the final item and what properties it must have. I'm bringing this up to highlight that ARP probably uses a certified material with material lot sheets and a paper trail if some thing goes wrong. Xotic probably (most likely) doesn't. And if you are getting the runaround like you are, I'd be questioning what they are actually made from. For what its worth, I have ARP studs in my truck. I got them because I had seen them in Diesel Power since I started reading the magazine in like 05-07.. I had seen the power levels that they were holding and when I finally got my truck I knew that those were the ones I wanted to go with. I also follow @Max Tune's mentality. I've seen the fallout of using cheap parts, or only going in and replacing some of the items in a large project. I don't want to have to repeat a fix shortly down the road because of bad quality. But I also try to balance paying for a brand name. Rock Auto has kind of taught me that, since you can see the part numbers and brands, the amount of re-branding is nuts.

Winter weather - What do you see where your at?
I think between @Doubletrouble and @Max Tune I can predict the weather for my area lol. Storm isn't supposed to start until midnight tonight for me. Same storm system but they are calling anything from 1-3 down by me on Long Island Sound up to 6-12 up past the Mass Pike. Lots of sleet and a change over to plain rain late in the day, then temps drop back down Friday into Saturday, turning things solid overnight.. yay But I'll take sleet over freezing rain any day. Ice pellets are better than glaze ice.. Freezing rain turns things really pretty and shiny, while being very dangerous..

Brakes - Check your hardware too
@Tractorman, definitely not original owner, not even 3rd.. I'm number 6 or 7.. She's been passed around a bit lol. I'll keep this info in mind when I adjust the parking brakes.

Midna's build
Took the day of yesterday to clean up the mess I made and swap the turbo. Mostly went without issue.. Mostly.. Lost my other intake horn bolt (the long one) so need to deal with that. Turns out my turbo was held on with 3 of 4 nuts.. Bottom firewall side of the flange was missing the nut and all of the others were relatively loose. Turbo elbow and intercooler line were a PITA to get connected up.. Needed to grab my brother to hold the elbow while I tightened the v-band Then the fun starts to happen. HX35 downpipe wouldn't come out of the rest of the exhaust, so I had to cut it. HX40 down pipe is shorter than the HX35 downpipe by almost a foot. I can deal with the straight pipe/downpipe only for a bit until I get a new mid pipe. But, I can't run the engine at all without the oil drain line hooked to the turbo. My drain line is hitting the wastegate actuator rod. Was thinking of doing one of the braided flexible lines. Anybody have any recommendations on how to remove the factory oil drain from the block? Does it just pop out or do you need like a slide hammer or something to pop it out of the block?

Brakes - Check your hardware too
On the topic of parking brakes.. I know of the adjustment in between the brake shoes but is there anything else to adjust? I had to replace mine a while ago due to the truck sitting for a while. Everything rusted up on my disks and ruined the pads. I know @Mopar1973Man gave the order of adjustment a long time ago but I have only found the star wheel adjustment.. Didn't know if the splitter/equalizer had to get adjusted.

Air Vent?
My cell phone (Galaxy s20+) has a 64 megapixel camera.. i know other phones are at 108 mega pixels (Galaxy s20 ultra and up i think). It (64 mega pixels) is a huge photo, roughly 6k pixels by 9k pixels, and around 10 MB in file size. 108 would be almost double that..

Air Vent?
"Add files" below the text box. Then find your photos. Dont use your large size camera (64 megapixels and up) for photos, theres a size limit..

Winter weather - What do you see where your at?
Being more allergic to mosquitoes makes them the bane of summer for me. No scratching and the bites have blown up to be nickel to quarter sized.. Stable temps would be nice.. roller coaster sucks..

Winter weather - What do you see where your at?
Rainy and 50 right now, supposed to be 60 to almost 70 and sunny tomorrow.. then thursday into friday is possibly 6 inches of snow with sleet and freezing rain and then more snow sunday monday.. getting whiplash from the temp and weather changes..
