  1. How far did you go on 5 and how full was the gas can w/ diesel when you got there? I appreciate the picture showing what you did. Now I know to carry some fuel line and clamps in the tool box. I can't help wondering what would happen if you had to do this on a newer truck with the electronically controlled injectors?
  2. You said you wanted to make it so you could run it on 5 cylinders by crimp bending the broken line, but couldn't. How did you get the truck home?
  3. Yeah he's mad his favorite shoe store won't sell him just the right shoe since that's the only one he wears out. On side note: I think Dripley found a hidden smog device....' fuel restricter lines'.... next thing you know they be all plumbed in with 1/2'' threaded pipe.... what a nightmare
  4. This my thought too, when looking at the map connection its a signal that perhaps the rest of the electrical system needs a lot of attention. Electrical can be really weird, just my theory, but one part of the electrical system can affect other areas seemingly unrelated. The entire system works as a whole so anything done to improve the overall will not be a waste of time.
  5. I know... he makes us wait for the next episode.
  6. If you need to wait on the gauges at least do fuel pressure to help hold above 14 at all times. That's important. My electrical sending gauge kept going bad. Two sending units in one year. Changed to a mechanical gauge the isolator is just now going bad Bought a second truck and put on a mech F/P gauge w/o the isolator. Installed down by the floor so if it ever leaks it will just go down there over the Husky Liner floor matts. Both trucks have the needle valve to shut them off and to dampen the hammer damage from the injection pump.
  7. Leave to IBM to always have the appropriate pic. Dripley I bought a brand new 79 Chev p.u. that had little options except 4wd. When I made the rear bumper out of a 4x8, it was a great step bumper all stained and varnished.
  8. Yes, and W-Ts list was stuck to the bottom of the milk.
  9. You know those Mitsubishi NPR box and flatbed trucks are doing real good for long lasting mileage. You have to find one with no EPA garbage on it because its causing some major problems on the newer ones. The only problem is if you need 4wd., but if your always on gravel rds and not making winter runs, it might work out. They are priced pretty decent and some businesses have not dumped a bunch of miles on some of them. I almost bought one simply cause the cab folds forward and you can stand there and easily get to anything on the engine needing work.
  10. Ok, what title would you like Marcus? Anything appropriate.
  11. Yes every Saturday Morning when I open the tool box and its truck tinker time....... Oh hell, just go get another cup of coffee and by then I might find W-Ts list I wrote down.
  12. Do you have to get much training for that?
  13. I fully understand, but enjoy the other aspects.
  14. But that's what makes it fun, different, interesting conversation around this place. It's what normal folks do. I can moderate, but why remove the welcoming aspect? The human aspect?
  15. He's talking about lightening or spark noise. When the brushes make and break contact sending A/C ripple back into the system. The lift pump motors on these after market pumps are about as noisy with A/C as Mike with his chain saw. W-T Brought this up on a phone conversation....... mentioning this very interesting subject that the electric motor on the stock Carter lift pump is engineered to curtail this noise. W-T went on to say that the Carter people and Dodge engineers really knew what they were doing when it was designed. The only problem being that it can't hold p.s.i. levels needed for the VP44.
  16. Noting like fresh ground and real perked coffee.... I read an article on the subject of electromagnetic pollution affecting bees. Apparently they communicate and navigate with their antennae with one being positive an the other negative. Bee populations are dwindling because of the confusion caused by the pollution. Unable to properly convey messages about pollen locations nor able to properly navigate.... It's also caused them to become active out of season. GMO plants also weakening their immune systems by loosing a lot of the natural aspects/ ingredients carried in healthy pollen. Smart meters when several were installed or ganged together at new a school, three teachers became very ill. The closest one died from brain tumors and the two adjacent classrooms the teachers were complaining of same early symptoms. Just google article on electromagnetic pollution and bee populations. You will get a lengthy article written by a large group of researchers. A real eye opener for our reliance on the bees. I know one thing too, that doing hard outside work, simple low stress type is the best to keeping you young. I have a theory too... that hard work while accomplishing something you love has greater health benefits than exercise equipment, treadmills and health club redundancy.
  17. Sometimes if I can really get going on something, not just puttzing, I can get totally obsessed an won't quit till it's done. I like those modes. Just stopping for lunch, now back at it.
  18. I hear that. In talking about this today, me being in rain country, I actually got motivated to cleaning up the garage. Its a long process since there is a lot of smalls scattered about, but the main thing is I actually got started and that's a milestone for me. I reorganized the woodshed and got things out there to make it easier.
  19. Mine is the typical two stall garage, but too many projects to park inside.
  20. You say again.... is that because you lost your garage in the fires? Welcome to the forum BTW. I like your truck and happy to see someone who can appreciate and take care of it.
  21. My SIL has a hunting dog just like that. When your back is turned, distracted working on the truck she steals hats (2 or 3 brand new) and now a set of prescription glasses. If you give her an egg she will take that to go hide it too. She won't break it while carrying, but if you try following her to find all the secret things stashed she growls at you and starts jumping to different trails to confuse you. I need to attach a camera to her collar and get my stuff back. jlbayes... amazed at the stuff you do.
  22. My overhead was working intermittently so some guys on this forum told me that it's most likely the factory connector up inside where the wires come down from the headliner. So I removed the overhead, found the connector and sure enough it was only clicked in half way. I squeezed it together, got another click-lock out of it and everything has been fine since. Don't know if this will help, but it sure was great to find simple fixes for everything that caused the PO to trade it in. I'm happy anyway. Keep us posted on what you find and good luck on it.
  23. Might be able to make it clear the fenders better too, with another bend.
  24. No bash here.... as I have some Harbor Freight contamination in my tool box. I think it might be wise to buy the more expensive grade at harbor freight if two grades are available.
  25. The fix is only in the tail shaft and pretty simple from what I've been told. You have to be careful because a lot of times there is a reason its available. That's why I like a tight truck all around original, not horsed with. To rebuild a 5 spd trans is less money than the 6 spd. I try buying from guys that have a good retirement income and think its time to flash with a newer style truck.
