EPA orders VW recall on Not So Clean Diesels
Why can't they just give a warning to get the new vehicles corrected or else? Instead all these fines and buy backs, eventually will be paid for by the consumer anyway, besides the Mileage losses. It's high time the Gov't went thru a recession. I went thru 3 horrible recessions and they don't do anything except run up more debt.

Torque Converter Lock/Unlock Issue
Most guys that test the alternator don't test for AC noise. They will often test okay, even on a brand new one but are still throwing too much AC noise. You need a good volt meter to test for it. Like a Fluke or other good VM. hopefully Michael Nelson will chime in too for a bit more information as I cannot remember how low the AC test is supposed to be.

Morning Pic For Today...........Post A Pic around your place.....
My dad used to say, you better study hard in school or you'll end up a ditch digger. Well as it turned out the excavating guys are making all the money or at least doing well. Those things got power for their size and make a compact tractor/ hoe feel like a toy in comparison. Good find.

busted console lights
That's the problem.... after 15 years you forget until one day it decides to go. Hopefully it hits a wanted murderer, not a good person. One guy slowed down and saw his spare passing him on the shoulder I took one look at that bracket and thin cable. At the time the truck had 50k. I decided to do something about it.

Steering
You want to not start it just unlock the wheel so it will turn. I have the wife go in there and go left to right as fast as she reasonably can while I watch every steering connection. Look for play in the sector shaft coming out of the steering box. (Side to side movement) Take a look at Google for the DSS steering stabilizer for the sector shaft movement.

busted console lights
Part of the problem is being on the underside with the crimp, the cable and the bracket, all possible. unlike metals . Kind of made at a quality that is death threateningly cheesy too, if you ask me. Sorry for ranting Dripley.

did you tear open the old one to see what went wrong?

Not new
Mike, I have a buddy in Boise. Would you like me to see if you can plug in your RV on his driveway and stay there when needed? He's a Ford truck salesman so I know you guys would get along real good

Vulcan Performance makes some of the parts for Air Dog. I was over there watching the CNC machines milling the quick connects. Eric told me that AirDog is still fighting that uphill battle trying to get their reputation back and have since gotten better about using good parts. My Air Dog 100 is still good after about 40-50 thousand but is one of the older good ones.

busted console lights
One way to slow down rude drivers Its about time those cheesy cable wheel holders will be rusting thru. All us should be doing something about them. Not trusting mine about 4 years ago, I put a chain and chain binder across. I think the chain is a bit easier with the right length. Just hooks to the frame and then a small binder holds it well. For good measure, place a stainless hose clamp on the chain binder handle to lock it.

Are you sayin' that you lost your spare on the road somewhere?

Injectors
Vulcan will warranty them. I just got mine running. It's got a little lope but there is a high pressure line that is dripping behind the VE pump. Tomorrow I will get a special tool that will work in there and retighten all the lines. I'm so dog gone happy its not the injection pump.... Michael Nelson coached me over the phone on getting it primed. Only about about 15 phone calls...... not really but a lot of calls. It can be tough to get it primed. I

Injectors
I drove 60 miles round trip in the snow/ ice, 5 accidents, two rollovers, to go to Vulcan and get my new injectors yesterday. I told Eric to get me rebuilts, pop tested and flow matched. For some reason, and I did not ask why he took it upon himself to order brand new ones from Bosch. The new ones were not a whole lot more money from what he quoted..... I was surprised. to say the least. I do know..... the way Eric is..... he's always right and done me good over the years. For such a little shop out in the woods, they are always big on doing good. BTW, they are for my first gen. Originals had 450 k on them which is going dangerously too long. May have destroyed the engine. We'll have to wait see.

Fueling questions, Return fuel line and fuel module
I like a 30 micron to take care of the big stuff and rated for the suction side of the lift pump at 90 gallons per hour. It is a taller filter so I had to put in a protection plate under it that swings away when doing service to the filter or lift pump. I like Racor brand because of the clear plastic bowl. There are other filters out there cheaper that do just as good of job like Donaldson. So far my Airdog 100 l/p has lasted 50 k miles holding 15- 19 p.s.i..

Fueling questions, Return fuel line and fuel module
While working on it I did not realize how easily the fuel basket plastic would crack. I had to remove the cracked piece so it wouldn't become an issue.

Fueling questions, Return fuel line and fuel module
With my set up dumping fuel return down the fill neck, I like to be able to lift the cap and see how well the return is flowing and how the overflow is doing. I've run all the way to the empty mark at the fill station, but when I got there, I found out the diesel pump was out of order. Had to feather the fuel another 12 miles or so to another filling station. I was very happy that it made it. The bottom of my fuel basket is mostly gone and broken off. Since I have the big pre lift pump filter with the clear bowl on the bottom I can see what condition my fuel quality is and filter the occasional garbage out of the fuel before it gets to the lift pump. My fuel basket is broken off because I removed the factory screens down there and got a little too aggressive. At least I can catch the garbage this way into a changeable filter and not let water and junk start growing inside the tank. This for guys in Redding

Mean While on Hoth....
Too bad they don't have an emoticon with greenhouse gases being released..... That would be the one.

Mean While on Hoth....
I would much rather live in a rural area. People are a lot more patient and don't live by the clock so much.

Mean While on Hoth....
I think its because so many more kids and higher numbers of vehicles in a big town. Where you live Mike you might wait an hour for someone to finally come along and help but in the big city just wait 10 seconds and someone will bump you out.

Hey There,
been driving my regular cab 92 for 20 years. Just now putting in its first set of injectors. Not recommending running 450k on the originals. I could have ruined my engine

Yer just jealous cause you get so little snow in Redding

Fueling questions, Return fuel line and fuel module
mine dumps into the filler neck. It helps mix the two stoke oil if its running and forget to dump it in before filling. I like the fill neck because I think it helps dump some of the heat away from the hot return fuel. I would like to add that I don't live in a cold area in the PNW but summers are very hot.

I think with the Fuel boss you cannot have a pre filter before the lift pump. I'm not sure but I think you can put one on after. I like water separating filter before an electric lift pump to stop sediment. Fass may come with one. The most important three things is to be above 14 psi all the time, to filter out any water droplets to save injectors and keep the factory filter to help the VP get even cleaner fuel. Have you read anything about scoring value test results in the fuel yet? You might agree like most the need for 2 cycle oil in the fuel. The Beans diesel sump, I have decided against because it is not legal to draw fuel from the bottom of the fuel tank.

Anyone know the thread size or type of lug nut needed?
