  1. I know the advantage of good oil based stains having no lap marks with an even spread but what does the water based stain do after is dry and varnish coats/ goes over the top? Latest development..... is I'm looking into using pine tar thinned with terpintine. It's a natural varnish from what I gather and acts like mildew police to stop any bacterial growth. It's pure tree sap as is how varnish used to be originally made. It's a lot cheaper, for some unknown reason, which may be a clue to just go ahead with the man made oil based varnishes.
  2. Listen to what Mike says Tim. He is the second gen guru. BTW, glad your in Florida.... me in Oregon so I don't have to guard my ECM all night Sorry Tim, couldn't resist
  3. I know your right Mike, but if he made a vacation out of it, the west has better camping, mountains and more national parks. Plus he could stop over your place. Others might chime in for more free overnight camping so he could get rested up along the way. That'd be great to get your help too if it could work.
  4. Darn, I wish you were out on the west coast as I love doing the impossible and helping someone. Been around wood and structures all my life. Seen many a ways to solve problems. The first thing is stay away from any rv type work and it's generally accepted levels of quality. It's not good like a real boat or like a good experienced professional carpenter. Russ if you consider making the long trip, I would help you for no compensation. I own a camping place you can stay here in Oregon.
  5. Joe, my wife works in an office where there are lots of people coming and going. She just heard about some folks using trans oil. It's too red at first but then reddish brown after about a month. They all have said it looks great and really lasts. I don't think I'll be doing anything like that. I can just imagine my home becoming a big fire hazard after doing something like that. Plus it's been my experience that petro oil can eventually break down the softer portions of wood grain. I am going back to the thinned varnish again as that has been the greatest result. However, I think a thin stain color, (very translucent) applied first, probably water a base stain with a mildicide, will add a comparable color but different enough to add slight variation from original will add character to the look.
  6. What would you call this new grass selling company?
  7. Doctor.... Doctor, I can't pee! Well, how old are you? 90! Well, you've peed enough!
  8. Maybe they are better. I don't really have any experience other than just some info I got from a car sales guy. I have never heard Weathertech doing free replacements. That is very cool that would get me thinking Lund.... Lund... Lund.
  9. WeatherTechs are better. That's what I was told anyway. They do cost a little more and made in Germany.
  10. it's a good thing some of these doctors aren't mechanics on our second gen 24 valves. . I had a doc request a 1500 dollar cat scan on a little vein bulge I had that could have been checked it with much less expensive ultra sound. They're in a hurry all the time and don't really take the time with you. Sheesh, just a simple doc visit is 245 bucks now a days
  11. That's what my 95 yr old grandpa always told me anyway but here's the glitch, I go in complaining about a pain in my left arm for what is commonly known as a torn rotater cuff. Told them I've had the pain for several months and only hurts when laying in bed a certain way or when lifting my arm straight up. So before seeing any doctor, without any warning they immediately place me on an EKG machine and get a bill for $750 plus the regular doctor bill. I know nothing is wrong with my heart and all the doc says is go for more tests and without warning he is done and walks out. That's it? I thought to myself.... what about my other concerns about aging...never been old before..... you know the dope on what is normal and what isn't....... and a normal reasonable time for a doctor visit? There's no one in the waiting room and no other patients there at this time. WTH! Talk about crappy care.... all they really care about is money and treating you like merchandise. Thanks Grandpa, I'll take your advice and just say my prayers. God doesn't charge anything and you can take as long as you need for a visit. Arm is getting better along with other minor stuff BTW.
  12. It be cool to have one of those undercarriage truck washers that you drive thru. Don't know it you've seen them. they spray from almost every direction at the undersides. Way to keep the driveway clean anyhow.
  13. Don't give up as there will be a time when your truck will reward you with long term smooth running My first gen has had it's share of frustration and we go thru times when we don't like each other but patience and perseverance does get returned every time for another hundred thousand or so. It's never let me down on that respect.
  14. Thank you Matthew. I woke up earlier today noticing something different about it. As though all prayers are more effective today. I hope you have a good day as well.
  15. Got a lot of respect for and am proud to see you guys doing what you are doing. It's cool.
  16. Sorry about the two little pieces of boat carpet comment and calling you 2 cycle Michael . Just call me' cross cu't and we're even... if that works somehow
  17. Thanks you guys. I had a lot of fun too, a wee bit uncomfortable at first/ felt like a bit of a stranger having never met before, but, all turned out a big blast of fun. MoparMom you are the greatest. You brought up very interesting conversation, had my attention the whole time. Hope to make it back up to those mountains again soon to see you both. I must add... if we just had folks like you all across America we would be the best country in the world again.
  18. I had to interlock the crosses with Mikes old chop saw. It required perfect depth and width notches to interlock the crosses with worn bearings and dull blade. I got it though. One was a good pressure fit and the other had no play but fit together without much pressure. I just didn't a wiggle in the fitting together. It was some careful cutting running the material back and forth for a flat even notch.
  19. Joe, commit your losses, sorrows, tears to the Lord. Weather money, love, material things, emotional hurt. He'll bless you in his own time for your faith. Happens inside your heart not your head, it's like truely being released from prison. I forgave my wife for everything that hurt so much over our years but sometimes we are so used to using our head rather than our hearts in faith that it's not real. Never give up waiting for the Lord to do things in His own time.
  20. Joe I just now read about this, if you need to have coffee with a good bud I'm here for you with money for coffee and breakfast if you wish. I stand with the Lord, no matter what befalls...... in spite of my doubt, in spite of the evil powers and my never ending faults. I've seen my faith word absolute wonders. The Lord forewarns me too about what he's going to do. I try telling myself what are you thinking about that for, comes out of no where usually? It's just a pipe dream, but then it happens. And it's not what I ask for it's always what he knows I need. That's always better. I gave up asking for anything and pray for others more.
  21. That was with yer tools too
  22. I'm not going to stay anonymous any more, it's just that '2 cycle Michael', feed me for a week, changed my injection pump and drove us all over the mountains to show me the area and would not take my money for his labor. I had to do something cause when you start feeling bad, taking advantage of someone. Well, I noticed some things missing on his truck is all. Especially those two little squares of boat carpet he had for floor matts. It got so bad, you guys, I even had to get a bit violent, when I had to push him away just to let me pay for a little milkshake he wanted. Now that's gettin' pretty bad, when you almost get in a fight in front of the cashier in a restaurant.
  23. The one I hate is the big honkin spider hanging down from the visor, right in my face in heavy traffic. Happened once , learned real fast to keep windows shut in the summer as much as possible.
  24. Looks nice. I've got grey huskies, Those look a little darker than mine but still look grey.
  25. How do you guys go about finding a good rebuilder when the work gets done by employees.... you never know if he's truly a pro?
