  1. Been looking around for an older diesel NPR truck. The one Im interested in has a straight piped stack which makes it too loud to for residential. Seller says, ''it wakes up the neighborhood''. So is a crome muffler very expensive? Or are there any other tricks/ options to quiet it down? Thanks in advance. BTW I love how you can tilt the cab and get to all the engine parts like working at a work bench. That's too easy.
  2. Yeah, you would think that would be enough. With the smaller belt pulley though, does it need to go higher? What about when they put the tank sump in and maybe didn't get out all the drill shavings?
  3. I hope that I am wrong here but, the DTT Asasin may require a high spin to do any priming since it is belt driven and has a reduced or small size pulley. I think therefore it is a pump requiring a high spin. This may be one advantage in priming a fuel system that electric pumps have over it. I am staying with the electric pumps and just carry an extra one with the truck. Seems simpler than worrying about a single belt drive. JMHO.
  4. Ed it was the older Raptors, as I was told, that had the small inlet screen. Better to check that just in case.
  5. Some older Raptors came with a tiny screen on the inlet side of the pump. Make sure that's not clogged and just take it out. That is not a good solution for a prefilter. You'll need a prefilter just to help save the lift pump. It also keeps better flow thru the factory filter by having twin filters, helps not to overwelm the factory filter. Assuming you have removed all banjos and don't have clogged in tank screens, your good to go. If you do find any restrictions It could be causing your 0216 code and might find that your old lift pump okay. You know inside the tank module there are screens in the bottom of the module housing, but there is also a small screened cartridge filter, like an in line gasoline filter, plastic, that has screens inside it. These might be a problem. All that stuff gone from my truck. Shouldn't be there in the first place. Just want good fuel flow and clogs I can get to by change friendly filters.. I forgot to say that Pacific fuel injection is the same company as Midwest fuel injection.
  6. I've been running long trips on 0216 code for 3 years. I think the 1693 is a companion code. The last trip I got dead pedal on a slow roll. So I changed the original APPS over to the new TIMBO APPS. Keeping my fingers crossed on my way home, (650 miles), I got a hard start. So I think it's time for a VP. I just hope that I don't try and convince myself of that by getting stuck somewhere. I bought mine from Vulcan Performance which came from Pacific Fuel Injection. I called to ask if they always change the PSG board and they said we won't do a VP rebuild without changing to new electronics. Their number is 503 283 5615
  7. What symptoms do you have? Only advice I can give is to try and purchase the vp directly from the rebuilder and hear it all from the horses mouth.
  8. Yep, I wonder about this when I see the fuel comes out like foam at the pump.
  9. That is strange and how they measure proper amount of fuel you pay for with the air mixed in ?
  10. Then why not by-pass the electronics and make it purely mechanical? Is that even possible though? Less mileage perhaps but more reliable in the long run.
  11. Yep I had to mod my stove... got rid of all the government do dads at the fab shop. Boy does it behave very well. It used to back pressure smoke thru all the smog stuff right back into the house. I got fed up and loaded in the truck and had it all fixed right so we could breath. I even told the guy down at D.E.Q. and that's what he suggested I do about it.
  12. So that's why my teeth are gone I did take the batteries out and neutralized everything that had the white powder. It worked great. Now I want to say thanks to all for the advice The corrosion only happened one time and that's when the built in battery charger in the truck, yes, truck has it's own charger, was turned on with the camper hooked up. Never when camper isn't hooked up. So I believe the truck charger kept pumping and pumping to no avail from a ground leak somewhere in the rv.. This a good thing actually since I never thought about it till recently that my rv charger takes way too long to fully charge up the two rv batts There something crossed up in the rv and will need to trace it down. Now... want to say... you guys save some Christmas cookies for when the company comes. You wolf 'em all down and the wife that made' em will turn from a sweet Mrs. Clause to everything short of a mean divorce attorney and you'll never get that new part for your truck. Merry Christmas all you.
  13. Update.... I found that when the rv umbilicle cord is hooked to the truck, that is when the lead oxide or fast corrosion develops. I think something is wrong, like a leak to grounding inside rv wiring or cord. Will have to trace it down. All I know is there's no corrosion when rv is disconnected.
  14. That is cool, I like the look of the logs, but sometimes get tired of maintenance on the outside. Mine is smaller home but ona hillside, so a lot of ladder work on the lower side.
  15. Having my little log home is nice..... I lite a fire in the morning and logs absorb the heat. So when we get home house is still warm to moderate depending on weather it's a windy or calm day. Log homes are nice that way due to the thermal mass that radiates the whole day. However, if you let it get too cold..... it takes longer to warm up.
  16. I can understand the ease of use and having a cleaner house going from wood to pellets. It boils down also as to weather you want your fuel from God or man Somehow our Lord always gets the price right by supplying it for free, if your willing to cut, split, and load of course. I appreciate His willingness also, to make us work, as it keeps us a little healthier I suppose. Unless your like me..... I've been buying my wood lately. How lazy is that?! When it's free all around my little piece of land!
  17. Mike can you check to see if it is out of round.... weather the diameter or radius is smaller at the crack?
  18. My chimney is about as high as yours probably. So do you also have the metal band cut out of yours? What I mean is the chimney cap is still on top but the 1 1/4 band that went around the cap support legs has been removed, allowing more flow.
  19. I have the largest Quadrafire stove. The creosote problems wouldn't quit till I made the chimney cap flow better. I'm so happy because I know how valuable a good set up is. Now I finely have one. Thank God and he's blessed us with enough wood for two more coming years.
  20. For 12 years I have been digging around trying to figure out why I'm getting excessive creosote build up. After trying all the right possibilities, A to Z, I finally got tired of it all.. as drastic situations require drastic solutions..... went on the roof and cut off that sheet metal band that they designed around the chimney cap opening. Sure the rain can go in a bit but, it had got to make it breath better. Straight piped ha ha. I got to tell ya' man oh man does it ever burn correct now. I can even turn it down a lot more for some all night burns with no build up. Can't believe I put up with it for 12 years just fighting with every poss. change I could make. Itliterally drove me nuts with creosote leaking outside the pipe. I was just too afraid to play around with Gov't approved $h1t they put on there.
  21. He he he.... that looks cool. Thanks for posting that.
  22. I think there are lots of guys who use the two stroke oil. Just placing the fuel between your fingertips..... the feel and the smell says this new stuff has less oil/ lube in it. So using 2 stroke is what diesels were meant to run on. It's the oil that makes 'em last so long.
  23. That's a cool write up and cool company. You know... the way Food and Drug Administration allows all this bad stuff on the market it's a wonder if they aren't actually trying to get rid of us.
  24. FlatTwin, You can fix that truck for loads less money than going for a different truck. You'll be taking a big bath selling a truck not running right. I think the biggest mistake in ownership is not doing enough research/ reading to know exactly what should be done for maintenance and to get the right parts in general, just researching for the right supplier and rebuilder is paramount when spending that much on a VP. It's too bad human nature wants to go along with what someone said... trusting what's said without the research. My experience has supported the idea that many people say words you love to hear, get your money but behind it all is something different. Somany people actually truely believe they are the best but in actuality is something different. It takes a long while to get wise to this ole' world. FatTwin, be nice if you could get your truck into Mopar Man. he'd have it running smooth as glass.
  25. He means shop mechanics. I think Bosch should send all new parts free for a new 'P' pump after your second VP goes out. After all we paid dearly for our trucks in this expensive world.
