Rebuilding a 04 305HP
If it were my truck; I'd do it right only once!!! Rather than cheap two or three times!!! Do them all and you'll have a new engine and peace of mind...............and a thinner wallet!!!

'06 and later water pump change the easy way.

Road Trip
Seeing that you and the Mrs. are Texicans; have y'all ever been to "Palo Duro" canyon just SE of Amarillo??? It's called the "Grand Canyon of Texas". My folks stopped there on a round about trip from NE Illinois thru Reno, NV and back via the northern Interstate highways. My folks liked Palo Duro much more than the Grand Canyon (same trip) because of the "cattle" feeling you get at the GC at the touristy places!! My folks actually said they'd wished they'd done the trip in reverse.............and seen PD canyon after the GC....................because they would've stayed longer at Palo Duro then!!!

u-joints
That's what the shop installed when I had them do my axle U-joints TWICE!!!! Granted, that's prior to my recent install of the SpynTec free spin hub kit. I went to NAPA myself this time and told them what I needed and they gave me them prior to the SpynTec install. The little boxes they came in had the precision number on them, but the box also said MOOG on it. Are precision U-joints made by Moog??? Hopefully these will last much, much longer no turning all the time and being subject to that stress. I know for a fact that my "short wheel base" '04.5 turns way tighter than my '99 did...............as well as all 4x4 Furd pickups and my good buds '09 GMC 1500 4x4!!!!! Tight turns are tough on U-joints. A CV joint is much better suited for tight turns!! Time will tell!!! HiJack time.............2000 miles on the SpynTec's now!!! Running smooth, quiet and efficient!!

Cool Down for Turbo
It's not your Autometers. I run their UltraLights and when I still had my Edge Juice w/Attitude hooked up, they were spot on with the Attitude monitor!!! That said; my truck is mildly BOMBed, and runs really cool. At 68mph or 2000rpm on my truck, over level ground w/no wind empty, Mighty Whitey is at 475-600* and 2-5psi boost depending on outside temps (-20 to 100*) and whether I'm running the AC. However; because it's BOMBed, it'll also get hot quick if she's lugged down. Going to NoDak on my annual trip there, with the truck loaded to the hilt and towing a trailer she'll be seeing 6-9psi boost and 650-850*.

Yellowstone and the Tetons are very cool............and very crowded. Unless you want to hike far away from the easy stuff.

Investments..markets
I have my IRA's and other invested monies professionally managed thru the local branch office of "The Mutual Fund Store". They've been great to me. The founder Adam Bold has a show on AM radio Saturday monrnings...............Called "The Mutual Fund Show". Worth it IMHO.Unless you spend hours researching, there's no way you can get more/better info than the pros.

Gosh It's Hot!!!!!!!
No kidding??!!!! That area around Houston, Texas is usually the "sweat capital" of the USA!!!:pant:

oil consumption/usage
The stocker turbo over an S-400 is a great set up. As is BD's "towing twins". Quick spooling and boost to about 60psi. May as well do head studs whilst she's apart...................maybe valve springs and injectors also!!!!!!!:spend: Tranny You asked!!!!!!!

Tire blew up!
ISX............sorry; I re-read my earlier post. I had no intention of sounding that harsh...............I had intended on it being a "tongue in cheek" post...................aka...............sarcasm!!!!!!!!! None of that came thru though. Sorry.:thumbup2:What brand of tires were they, and where did you buy them at????

Slightly disappointed with MPG's
I've had my '04.5 almost twice as long now as I had my '99. I can say for certainty that I get way better mileage on average with my current truck (Mighty Whitey) than I did with my old '99 (Mean Green). 20.7mpg was the best I could ever get out of greeny. Greeny however was religious about being consistant with mileage...............17-19mpg all the time in combo towing/empty. I've had a high of 23.2mpg a couple years ago on my '04.5......................and recently had 4 tanks in a row of 20+mpg and one of those was 21+!!!!!The aftermarket "magic" is out there to make the 3rd and 4th gens really good on fuel. But you need to live in a free state (no testing) to realize it!!!:smart:

Got a case 580 super l

Tire blew up!
You wouldn't ride on a tire like that on your motorcycle.........................would you??????? Yet you're gonna drive on a POS tire like that in your truck and endanger me, Mike, Russ, etc....................anyone that's driving near or around you!!!!??????:smart:Not arguing, just saying!!!!!! Glad no one was FUBARed by the incident!!!!

NV5600 fluid
The Amsoil MTF that I use is actually about SAE 30 oil in viscosity. I cannot imagine guys using 75W90 weight gear oil in a NV5600 tranny.Even with the synthetic Amsoil MTF, when it's -10* out, and Mighty Whiteys been sitting outside for a few hour or over night, my NV5600 is REALLY STIFF!!!!!!! I can't imagine what it'd be like with "thicker" gear lube!!!!:stuned:When I had my '99...........I spent a weekend ice fishing in "da Nort land"............northern Wisconsin.................got down to almost -30 on 2 of the 4 nights. Mean Green, my '99, wasn't started for 3 days. On about day 3.5........we needed beer...........I volutneeered for the run...................just to get Mean Green running for 30 minutes or so. Twas ugly for about 10 minutes, as I didn't have her plugged in!!!!! She still started though............first crank, after 2 cycles of the grid heater. I still think there haven't been mosquitos there since that cold start of Mean Green in Jan.!!!!! White smoke out the wazoo!!!!:lmao:But; long story short, Mean Green with the NV4500 was a beeatch to shift with that 75W90 weight gear oil in her.............................the NV5600 with essentially SAE30 is a beeatch at 30*...................I cannot imagine pouring thicker lube in there!!!

Can we say dumb@$$?
Russ, I've read the whole thread currently; but, I'm coming back to your post because, I've heard of folks being nice and trying to do the right thing...........but fill the truck with unleaded!!!!!!:duh: Either way seems someting always happens!!

Coolant drops on the floor
I'm gonna jinx myself here; but I'm like Mike, I've not yet replaced the water pump on my '04.5 with almost 171,xxx miles on her. Also check your lower radiator hose........it's on the front passenger side of the engine. Both radiator hoses are also OEM on my truck...........but I do have replacements sitting in the garage to install. The bottom one looks like a PITA to do!!!

- Cool Down for Turbo
:iagree:- Slightly disappointed with MPG's
Twas just checking!!! When you slowed down, were your EGT's higher?? My truck actually runs cooler EGT's at 65-68mph empty, towing and running the air empty/towing than doing all the same at 55mph. That's what I meant about out of the sweet spot. I've driven I-95 several times...........it is pancake flat mostly, but how was the wind in your travels?? AH64ID has posted that he'll often get better mileage at higher rpm's in 5th gear vs. lower rpm in 6th gear because he's not lugging the Cummins, and she's getting air to boot to keep EGT's down!!!- Death wobble while braking?
Ball joints IMHO, are usually not the "true" cause of DW,,,,,,,,,,,but may surely contribute to it because they're loose. The most likely causes are worn track bar bushings, steering box play, and lift kits via blocks only (as it changes the camber and shifts the axle slightly to the drivers side putting stress on the control arms and their bushings)!!! For some reason that I cannot figure out, it also seems that DW occurs more frequently with BF Goodrich All Terrians TA's. That's solely based on all the DW threads I've read over the years on various forums.- Michael.............How Close????
Excellent!!!!! I should be there in just over a year from now.........170,7xx now!!!!:2cents:For a little while there I thought I may pass you up!!!- First Wood In Months
Looking forward to it!!!!- Got a case 580 super l
I got aroused reading this thread. Those 4BT's were awesome and bullet-proof!! I'd love to find one to put into a 1500 for kicks!! I'll bet I could average 25+mpg with that litttle bad boy in a 1500 truck!!! - Cool Down for Turbo
