Gooseneck hitch
I have and was aware of what could be seen. It was much worse than I thought once it was out. I also have another bed for the truck. Just needs to be painted to match. It already has the rails in it for a fifth wheel hitch and the top plate for a gooseneck. I think I'll just patch over the hole for the gooseneck and buy the frame brackets for the fifth wheel rails. I don't have anything that I need a gooseneck for. Just a fifth wheel should do just fine. During the bed swap I'll repair anything that needs attention and paint the frame with chassis saver paint.

Gooseneck hitch
So today I had some time to spare so I removed the gooseneck hitch from the bed of the truck. Boy am I glad I did. We have been pulling our 36' 10k pound fifth wheel (with an adapter) with this hitch. I noticed that one of the cross members was badly rusted, that's what prompted me to remove it to inspect it. All 4 bolts snapped off when I tried to loosen them. The hitch is junk. It would have been very dangerous if not catastrophic to pull the camper again. See pics below.

W-T ground wire mod - Simplified
If your referring to the connection he's holding near the driver's side battery it's a ground wire made from the leftover wire from the passenger side. Lug each end then connect one end to the neg battery post and the other to the gear case bolt down near the vp44.

Tire pressure loaded vs empty
I don't have a scale readily available. (other than the expensive CAT scales at the truck stops) I could guesstimate mine slightly higher, I do want to weigh it with and without the 5th wheel camper once that season gets here. Such a PITA to change rear pressure. I have 7 hole wheels with 4 hole shiny covers so nothing lines up to get a gauge or air chuck in there. Been looking at extenders and such for a solution.

Tire pressure loaded vs empty
Now the 4440 and 2860 front and rear, are those the weight as the truck sits empty as driven daily?

RV furnace advise
I know we don't typically ask tech advise on RV's but...... We have a 1994 coachman 5th wheel with a non-working furnace. These 12volt furnaces aren't super complicated, just want to know I'm on the right track. I have tested the sail switch-good. The over limit switch-good. I hear clicking when it tries to fire, there is spark at the electronic ignitor, nice and blue. just no fire. I also checked for gas flow to the valve of the unit-good. This leaves me with a possible bad gas valve on the furnace. I had 12v at the solenoids on the valve, it just doesn't seem to open to supply gas to the burner. Does this sound correct? Am I maybe missing something before I order a gas valve? Is there a way to bench test or clean it? Thanks.

My '16 Harley Tri Glide Ultra
Doubletrouble replied to 01_Cummins_4x4's topic in Motorcycle enthusiast's Street Bikes and CruisersI do that with my 3500 as well. With it being a dually and 99% of the time it's empty. The door sticker says 65 psi front and 50 psi rear. She rides pretty rough like that. I air down the rear tires to 42-45 psi and it helps alot. Also keeps the tread wear more even across the tire as well.

Winter weather - What do you see where your at?
We're expecting a snow storm tonight. They're saying 2-4" of snow with ice pellets mixed in. Right now no snow yet, 24° with 16mph wind. "Real feel" is 10°. Friday morning commute will be tricky. Sounds like a good day to stay home.

Anyone here run Gloshift gauges?
They have more than one level of price. As to quality.....?

Wind has picked up here some. We're supposed to get another round of winter Thursday night into Friday. Possibly 6" of snow. Have to head up to Chicago area early in the morning. Hope to deliver, reload and be back this way before the storm hits this time. Last week I held up in Lafayette In. Until it was over the following morning. Ugh

Speed Round-General Questions
If the relay is way back there I have to ask, where is it getting battery power from? Did you run a wire from the battery all the way to the relay? I would either swap to the led lights or move the relay to somewhere more shielded from road debris. I have an led light strip between the tailgate and rear bumper. I'm sure you've seen the kind I'm talking about. Mine also has white led's that come on with the reverse lights which are also led bulbs. Lights up pretty good behind the truck.

Speed Round-General Questions
I agree with all of the above. Would like to add that the pitman arm and splined shaft it goes are tapered I believe so the pitman arm should only go on so far and stop.

Who's ready for warmer weather?
@Max Tune, I'm the same way. I prefer to listen to the mechanical music of the engine, wind blowing by and take it all in. Very relaxing for me. Momma wants an ultra for her comfort, i get it but i will keep my wide glide for when im solo. I enjoy it to much to let it go. @Mopar1973Man, I can just see you zig zapping down the road dancing in the seat!

Who's ready for warmer weather?
My son went yesterday and bought a brand new 2021 Street Glide. Traded his 2014 Wide glide in on it. Now him and his wife will be more comfortable on the trip. I'll have to ride closer to him now to hear his stereo, LOL
