Average mpg for basically stock truck

I have a 2001 3500 dually 4x4 quad cab long bed, stock tire size, nv4500 5 speed with 3:55 gears. What is the average fuel milage expected from these trucks? The only "mods" done that I know of are a FASS ddrp pump in factory location and the exhaust has been replaced but nothing crazy. I measured the tailpipe it's 4" but have not measured the rest under the truck yet. So to my knowledge it's pretty bone stock with 141k on the clock. Last I checked I was at about 15mpg. Mainly to and from work, about a 20 Mile drive, about 5 of that is considered city the rest is state route 60mph or highway about 65mph. Just curious if I'm around the norm for what I have. Thanks.

		Hydroboost???

On Jeeps they would act like that when the steering box broke loose from the frame but that wouldn't explain the fluid puking out. That's an odd thing going on there.

I am curious of the syncros as well. I will be paying attention. My 3rd year syncro was out when I bought the truck. I have been double clutching 3rd to avoid grinding the gear down for now. I want to at some point replace all the syncros and do one of the 5th gear fixes to avoid that problem in the future. Possibly a clutch at the same time. I don't plan on a bunch of big power mods in the near future just don't want the trans to crap the bed while pulling our camper or something.

Thinking about a 5th wheel or travel trailer

A couple years ago we found a nice deal on an older jayco, 1989 but very well cared for and has the metal roof not the membrain stuff they use now and the underbelly is insulated and covered in metal as well. Some kinda of "all season" package upgrade of the time. We are very happy with it and have had absolutely no issues with it so far. The couple we bought it from were meticulous with it and made some upgrades of their own. A dormer fridge/freezer with a big inverter to run it while towing. Better Central stereo and speakers both inside and out. Can't wait to pull it with the dodge now. The 1999 k1500 suburban I used prior had it's hands full pulling it.

		Sucks on the highway

I think more information would be helpful. Is your truck automatic or manual trans? Gear ratio, tire size and so on. It will help diagnose the issue. You should put this info in your signature for future reference. Makes things a bit easier.

		- Stainless dually wheel coversI meant to update this earlier but it slipped my mind. The wheel simulators are not stock. I could barely see a name where the center cap decal has been removed or lost. They are from Motoring accessories, I believe that is the manufacturer name. I was able to remove the crooked one and straighten it up an reinstall the cap. They just pry off, then the lug nuts have to be loosened or removed to resituat the big cover. Not a big deal. I am missing 2 of the fake lug nuts on the opposite side though, other than that they are all in good shape and my crooked wheel cover issue solved.
- New Headlights for Big BlueLights look great! Now I want some, see what y'all started!
- Factory hitch questionsI have an '01 dually with the factory hitch setup on it. I am curious, what size pin did this take in the receiver originally? The hole on mine is egg shaped and larger than the 5/8" pin I normally use. I can take some pics if needed. I am probably going to have to buy a new shank already since this truck sits much higher than the suburban I used to pull the camper with. I'm hoping I don't need to replace the hitch right away as well. We don't usually go far with the camper maybe one or two trips a year no more than maybe 60 miles round trip. Eventually we will venture further but for now I just need to make it safe.
- Came across the fourm!Welcome!
- New Headlights for Big BlueLights look great! Weather looks like it could be better. +1 on the fireball.
- New Headlights for Big BlueI prefer fireball myself.
- Moisture in headlightsI think I saw that post with a pic of the pattern. Looked pretty good.
- Moisture in headlightsThey look awesome, I'm just not ready to part with the much $$ for the headlights just yet.
- Moisture in headlightsCovering as many miles as you do you know what I'm talking about. It gets very annoying. I work night shift so my entire work day is in the dark covering anywhere from 200-500 miles a night. I also live in the country so I want good lights on the way home to avoid animals. Deer vs. truck is never good.
- Moisture in headlightsRight, I already figured I'd be readjusting once I replace the entire assembly anyway. Usually they aren't adjusted properly from the manufacturer. I don't like blinding people, I drive for a living and it is one of my biggest pet peeves. I don't mind that someone has great headlights, nice and bright but put them down so I can see to! Lol
- Moisture in headlightsI have considered those assemblies with an LED bulb I believe I read somewhere that LED's need a certain type of reflector or something. A buddy runs LED's in his factory housings on a '14 Chevy truck and likes them but I've never been in it at night myself to tell.
- Moisture in headlightsHave been looking at those same lights. Going to have to wait until I'm back to work though. I was thinking those assemblies with silver Star ultra bulbs.
- RUST: what is everyone doing to prevent it?I've used a couple different brands of the so called rust conversion products in spray cans and so far I have not been overly impressed with them. Recently I did the bottom of the passenger door, it had some surface rust so I took a wire wheel to it on a drill to remove any loose stuff, the 2 coats of the "rust converter" and primer. The rust is showing through the primer already after about a month. Might be my fault since I didn't seal it with paint or clear over the primer though. Not sure.
- New Headlights for Big BlueThat's just mean
- Be alert!A smart car would have bounced off of it and changed directions like the old wind up toy cars from years ago.
- RUST: what is everyone doing to prevent it?I would think that a truck in Regen would emit more in that amount of time than a healthy no emissions diesel would if it was turned correctly. I remember the cash for clunkers as well. A lot of decent older vehicles got smashed because of that. They try to blame all the emissions and global warming on the common working person and we pay for it and yet the military runs all over the world with their diesel vehicles and no def or dpf systems in place. (Last I heard at least) We are having a very mild winter here in North West Ohio, if this is a result of global warming I'm all for it! Lol
- RUST: what is everyone doing to prevent it?Not only is the salt bad but now they are using the liquid calcium chloride garbage as well. That stuff will eat through an aluminum fuel tank (like a semi truck) in a matter of a couple years if left unchecked.
- Be alert!I've had that happen at work. A large bird of some sort flew out if a ditch right into my windshield and broke it.
