Cold in Canada ?
My brother is in Watertown, NY... up by the Canadian border & getting lake effects snows... He had -14 at 8:30AM & that was up from -19 overnight. I could not do it. We were +10 at 8:30 & that does me in. Yesterday I took my folding scooter to the grocery, the 2 minutes to deploy it was pretty rough. At least the parking lot was down to pavement in the afternoon so I could use my scooter.

1999 2500 2wd stalls when put in gear
That comment... "Not worth fixing" sounds totally bogus. Like saying, "don't bother me"... because he's clueless. If you've had the codes read & got nothing, that tells a lot about what it isn't. As to what it might be, I'll defer to those with more knowledge...

going to tackle the abs/brake lite issue today on the '00
I had this on my Cirus, repeatedly. After several trips to the shop, they finally replaced the wheel sensor. It's stayed fixed for several years since. The trick is to figure out which one. It would have been cheaper to replace it the first time.

Two Rides You'll Never Forget.....
The rail one reminds me of the virtually brakless sleds the employees used to come down the Mount Washington cog railway... Riding a single rail. They stopped it after a fatality. http://www.cog-railway.com/devils.htm I was wrong... they rode the cog rack, not the track. The railway was so steep that the engine had to gear into the rack to climb.

Change of plans
There are a lot of "jobs" (for lack of a better term) where one only needs to know the overview... enough to say with a certainty "your injector pump is broke or screwing up." Then they send it to an expert to fix. There needs to be someone somewhere who is an expert. One probably can not be an expert on everything, but a wise person will know his limitations. The people who do not cause a lot of grief to themselves & others. If you are drawn to a specific area & want to learn more, then that is the path to follow. You can not put a pricetag on that spark. Just because someone else laid out a course of study, which might meet the average person's needs... surely does not mean that we all should follow it. The trick is to be smart about it & get the right credentials & such to have creditability.

Change of plans
I think this is mostly true... a certificate may get your foot in the door but so can years of experience. After that, it's up to one to self educate or continuing educate... or get passed by. Many very successful guys started without or before getting degreed. It's largely about skill. There are a lot of "For Profit" schools these days... and one does not make back the return on investment.A young guy in our family, was uninspired... went to college & took classes... a fortunate storm closed the Florida Keys school & forced him home. Went to work with a family friend (ended up marrying the daughter) in HVAC... He liked it! The company paid to get him certified & licensed. After a time, he partnered with another familty member to form their own firm. They have plenty of work... Skilled Labor... is nothing to be ashamed of. I probably fall into that catagory. I'm in my element when I can be creative & do highest quality work.

Starting Problems.
CODES?? These things are rolling computers!

Window No Worky
A problem I had in my old C30 (1979, I kept on the road until 2001, sold in 2006) was that the harness to the driver's door (most use, most flex) the power lead got metal fatigue & an intermittant connection. I spliced in a good section of power lead in the hinge area & that solved the problem.

1996 Ford F350 ?'s...
Not a PS guy either... had a Ford Ranger Diesel years ago... as the weather got colder became harder to start until I was starting on only 1 cylinder... all but 1 glow plug out. I understand there are glow plug relays, controls, sensors... Only guessing. Are there any codes? Gotta start with that.

Man, that SORKS! I hope it's something that can be easily fixed.

Daily Driver question
A winter front, even a sealed piece of carboard & zip ties, blocking the grill, not the radiator is better for the truck. Sticking a cardboard against the radiator blocks coolers & such as well. Short trips are hard on the truck, because it doesn't warm up. If you set a timer to run the block heater for a couple of hours before you start, the grid heaters will run little, if at all, and avoid the battery drain & problem recharging it. I keep a small dash top solar panel plugged into the power port, so during the day some battery recovery can take place. I made mine out of thin plastic with tin snips to a cardboard pattern:

2001 Dodge 2500 Rear Axle Alignment
I'd not sure but I think we've been here before with front end techs who are book smart but short on hands on experience. Sometimes the book is wrong. Perhaps is has to do with the heavy engine option.

Flagmanruss, someone needs farymann marine engine advice.
I've only seen one... Most are older than my era. I delt a lot with Universal Atomic 4 gas engines... flat head with updraft carbs... as auxillary power for sail vessels. There were others with Hercules or Continental blocks, Grey Marine made many of these. Most of these names are gone now or bought up.There were some interesting profiles with engines mounted flywheel forward with the drive off a single shaft key on the damper end. Made a much lower profile to fit under a flush deck.

2001 Dodge 2500 Rear Axle Alignment
Worn or damaged bushings in the rear leaf springs? Loose rivets where rear spring mounts to the frame? Damage to rear sway bars? (added to loose bushings). Have someone follow you down the road & observe how the rear tracks. You have probably checked for broken leaf springs. I had a bunch of cracked leafs in my C30.

Went out to move the truck...
I still have OEM battery terminal connectors. Treated red/green felt washers under them. There is none of the white corrosion. I didn't check for loose or oxidized connections. I don't think there was anything left on but one never knows. I'll look to see if I find any extra draws. I just started by running the cord accross the driveway & slapping the charger on it overnight. I'll clean the terminals. I have the correct terminal brushes. It might be that she moved the truck... didn't run it enough to recharge before shutting it off. She started again to put it back... didn't run enough to recharge... sat for another week with normal parasitic draws... She plugged in my solar charger... in the 'on with the key' socket so it did nothing... Thanks guys.

Went out to move the truck...
dead batteries. Wouldn't turn over. On the 6A charger now. Wife moved the truck so she could snow plow with ATV a week ago. &^%$#! I'll know more in a day or so. I was going to clean up the tail light sockets... I took the Cirus for a new windshield yesterday. While the glass man had the cowel out... inspected the cabin air inlet... pefect... So how are mice getting into the heater? I don't get it???

Wanna know how to QUICKLY dump 2 gal. Mercon out of the 47RE?

Screening mouse access in Cirrus...
I've been laid low by the cold or what-ever-the-F it is... Fortunately, I think I've turned a corner and am only half soffocated... water boarding has nothing on me! I had a stone take out the Cirus windshield... fortunately I still have glass coverage so the insurance paid to get it replaced. To replace the windshield, the cowel has to come out... I let the pro do it. I explained about my mouse problem. He let me watch the windshield process... and we checked out the cabin air inlet screen... it is perfect. No holes. The mice must be getting in some other way. But they are only on the intake side of the heater core (blend door / blower on that side also). Somebody suggested they might have gotten in through another grommet. I don't know where that would be. Dang!

Block heater not working?
I think the power cord to the block heater just plugs in where the element is in the freeze plug hole.

Replacing OEM back up bulbs
I replaced the bulbs & didn't fix the problem. The bulbs that came out tested ok, too. Some of the contacts looked dark & oxidized. As soon as I'm fit to go outdoors, I'm planning to use a 3M pad around a thin file to clean up the contacts & try again. I picked up a pair of Silverstar 3157's... wonder if I'd like them, assuming I can get them lit! When backing at night, I'm used to dropping to parking lights which helps my eyes adjust to the rear light... This cold or whatever is hanging on. At least I'm not on the immune suppressing MS treatment anymore. (Any infection, cold or flu... upregulates the immune system & makes MS symptoms very much worse... Can't say much more without engaging the word censor!)
