  1. Wyoming and northern Colorado have been getting a reprieve with the rain this year, hopefully you guys will get some before things get too bad.
  2. Thats pretty impressive! I'm limited to about 8k pounds towing in OD on the 6% grades, much above that and I'm forced to drop out of OD to keep EGT's in check.
  3. No, timing alone will not decrease egt to the point of not having to worry about it, but it has been my experiences that added timing along with mild injectors adds a nice little bump in power and will definitely help the trucks towing manners. Then again, running at close to max gcvw on 6% grades is going to be tough on any truck, about the only thing to do is gear down and take your time.Hey John, I'm curious, how heavy have you towed with your twin set up?
  4. Dang, does that truck ever get used? It looks brand new on the inside! I noticed the white hood, Is that a different truck from the picture in your avatar?
  5. I would suggest an injector upgrade and a performance box to increase your timing. Providing you don't drive any differently with the extra power you will see a bump in fuel economy and the advanced timing will help a little on the egt's. Without some fuel mods I'm not sure how much a turbo would help unless it was a variable geometry.
  6. Which of the treadwrights do you run? I've been seriously contemplating trying out the Warden's (A/T) for my next set. For the price, it's hard to pass up on.
  7. I used 3M double sided tape to mount my little box under the column. I attached velcro to the tape to make removal of the box easy in case I need to open it up for some reason without ruining the tape.
  8. Here is a shot of the 98-99 dashThere isn't any good spots to mount on the dash so I ended up mounting mine under the steering column. Even with my long legs it's out of the way and the wires are easily concealable.Let me know if you need anything else!
  9. I will certainly get you some pictures in the morning. I very much appreciate the offer but am happy with what I've got for a set up. I will still be happy to provide any pictures, measurements, or anything else you may need to help you along.
  10. Yep, they will be hitting the dealerships for 2014. I will be very interested to see the specs from this new Cummins engine. It just seems too big to be cradled in a light duty half ton. 300 Cubic inches, that's not too far off from the ol' 5.9. I'm sure they have shaved a bunch of weight compared to the older engines with lighter weight blocks, heads, and hard parts but it still seems over kill. It will be interesting to see what kind of drive train Nissan puts behind that little monster, they currently don't have any other other engines in that league.
  11. FYI there is no cubby hole in the dash on the 98 &99s
  12. Only the cab/chassis and 1500 if I'm reading it right. 2010 shows the first year for all of them.
  13. Basically any vehicle with modern on board computers that allow you to "link" to the vehicle will have a gps device which will allow authorities to track the vehicle. many of the newer vehicle have in deed taken it a step further and log all of the vehicles information prior to an accident. Even our 5 year old Mercury has this type of capability. In a way I agree, it is an infringement of privacy but this is how I look at it. Don't do anything you shouldn't be doing (excessive speeding, drinking and driving, texting/talking while driving, etc) and youll have nothing to worry about. In fact it could very well be the deciding factor someday in an incident I'm involved in. The odds of me bieng at fault in a wreck is very low, it's all the other yayhoos out there that don't pay a lick of attention that I worry about and in a case of "my word against his" with no other witnesses it may just save my ___.
  14. As long as the oil changes are kept up in the diffs there isn't many problems with them. I've seen trucks with 500k on an original rear end, my former 00 has recently topped 400k and still running around with zero problems other than when I had to clean up the clutches and while I was in there I also replaced all the seals. With the notoriously light ___ ends limited slip has its advantages on snow/ice covered roads in the winter time as well.
  15. Yep, 500 shipped to your door!!!
  16. Pop the hood on any new diesel truck, they still run mechanical operated fans. Electric fans are fine for smaller cooling systems with less load demand being put on an engine but do not work very well in our application. What is your fan doing or not doing that your having issues with?
  17. Ryans right the internals are quite a bit different I don't believe you can piece them together like your wanting to do. I got lucky and found an oem pair for 40 bucks at a local junkyard after keeping an eye out for a pair for a while.
  18. Found this locally (kind of, 2 hours away). 300 Bucks for an HE351vgt and manifold with 65k miles. Thursday is the earliest I can make a 4 hour trip and if it's still there I'm going to ****** it up.
  19. He ain't fluking around either! I would completely agree with your statement Jag.
  20. I pads have data plans now? Thought they ran off WiFi only?It depends on needs and uses. I have had one for a few years now with the Android platform and love it. Compared to having a regular cell phone it is an extra 40 to 50 a month. So I keep the smart phone and did away with the home phone and internet service. The wife has a company issued tablet and we run our computer off of it with a wifi adapter. We juggled our bills around and don't pay anymore than if we kept a landline / internet service with regular phones.what are your concerns with privacy? The govt can ping a plainJane cellphone and be on your doorr step in no time if that's what they want to do....
  21. Normally they have a fixed chain on the front of the sled and just shackle or pin it to your hitch.
  22. My 98.5 still has the pull type switch.
  23. Gear ratio should be posted under the hood if the sticker is still there. 3.55s should be running around 1800 rpm at 70 mph with an auto, and pretty close to that with a standard. If your up over 2100 rpm at 70, you likely have 4.10s. This is with stock tires. Need to clarify where the noise is coming from, are you positive it's coming from the ring and pinion or is it possibly coming from the outer bearings in the axle? If it is only making the noise while turning I would suspect the differential also, but I like to be sure before I tear into something. How does your diff oil look? Do you know for sure its got the additive (and the proper amount) in it? The condition of the oil will tell you alot. My former truck developed a chatter when turning corners. At the advice of a driveline guy I pulled the axles and removed the entire diff assembly and liberally dueched the clutches out with brake cleaner. I used about 2 cans of the stuff, then blew them out with compressed air and put it back together. Worked like a charm. Reason for the chatter was the clutches got gummed up (truck had 350k miles) and they werent effectively doing their job when making corners. I caught it in time and over 50k miles later the truck is still on the road.
  24. Talk about a small world!! I've lived in the area most of my life, except about 10 years in Wyoming. I'm currently living near Pymatuning Lake (Andover) What brings you to Windsor? Family?
  25. Where about is Holmes county? Our fair (Ashtabula County) is this weekend also. We watched The Lucas series Wednesday night, those boys are for real. 10K rpm on a gas only NA engine . I was having serious thoughts about running my truck tomorrow but works calling again and I won't be able to make it.
