Trailer Brake controller
Yes I have done all this with the trailer hooked up and even ran down the road with it. But even sitting in the driveway when pressing on the brakes my controller will normally put voltage out to the trailer depending on where the gain is set. I can tell by the light on the controller it is green when connected and goes from orange to red as I adjust up to full gain. Now all I am getting is the green light showing the trailer is connected but it will not change like it normally will when I step on the brake pedal. I think that it is more on the trailer end because earlier I pulled the break away pin and I get nothing. Battery tested at 12.3 Volts and all connections tight so I think I need to change my troubleshooting from truck to trailer

Rear axle noise
Most all 2500 with automatic are the D70. I was told by a guy that owns a local driveline shop that Dana axles are stamped with an identifying number on the bottom of the axle. If you crawl under the truck, drivers side of pinion on the front side of the axle, look under the reinforcing web between the axle tube and pinion housing. It should either be stamped 70 or 80. There's some other numbers there as well I forget what they are (nothing important) I have only confirmed this with a few trucks so I do not know how common this is

Trailer Brake controller
There is no other name or numbers on the controller so Im not sure on the model. My buddy just bought a brand new truck last month lI'll get him over here in the next day or so and see what his truck does hooked to it. Thanks a bunch!

What is going on here?
This is a wild swing at the fence but have you ever replaced your water pump? If you have is there an outside possibility it might be for a 6.7? I read somewhere a while back thathey're interchangeable and they have a substantially higher flow rate than the 5.9 Its almost impossible but not entirely that somebody at the parts counter grabbed the wrong pump? Thats gettin pretty desperate though!

Trailer Brake controller
Tekonsha controllers they both appear to be the same model. I'm not sure what you mean by pendulum type but they both have a gain adjustment which acts kind of like a rheostat the more you turn up the gain the more voltage is applied to the trailers brakes. Both of them will activate the trailer brakes using the manual switch but when relying solely on the brake pedal it acts as if I've got the gain turned all the way down = no brakes. The last time I actually used the trailer back inJanuary the brakes worked just fine. A few weeks ago I pulled the hubs all apart to repack the bearings in ppreparation for the summer and a big road trip I'm taking the first weekend in May. I put the trailer back together and putt it up until the other day. I hooked up to it to haul dads tractor and that's when I noticed I didn't have any brakes. Thinking I messed something up when I had the drums off I took everything back apart but everything looks good inside. Like I said using the manual switch everything works properly. Its got me pulling my hair out

Trailer Brake controller
I thought maybe that was the case too so I swapped out the brake controller with a spare one I had. I have never used the other controller it was in a truck I bought for parts but its doing the exact same thing. Maybe I'll try to get my buddy over to hook his truck up to my trailer to see what it does. Thank you for the suggestions

Trailer Brake controller
I tested everything at the brake controller and when I step on the brake pedal Ive got almost 13 volts on the wire labeled "truck brakes" (at the controller) But on the wire labeled "trailer brakes" Ive got no volts when I step on the brakes. But if I use the manual switch on the controller and then the voltage will vary depending on how far Im pushing the manual switch which is how it should be I think? All lights on the truck and trailer work as they should. If its a wiring issue why do the brakes work when I use the manual switch on the controller? This is the part Im having a hard time understanding

'00 dead on road... 1688 code found,
It really amazes me that one vendor can offer a pump with a new computer for close to the same price as what others sell a pump at with a used computer! I was told by a reputable guy a few years ago the new computers were a big part of the cost of the pump.Anyhoo, thanks for sharing this info, glad you got it sorted out, with the exception of a lighter wallet!

'00 dead on road... 1688 code found,
My post was more of a question than anything. I "thought" the HO with 6 speed was only available in 01 and 02, but I am wrong on a regular basis I dont know how to read the vin number but it will definitely have what you need if you cant verify through the vp. Maybe a call in to a local dealership? - - - Updated - - - Ok after thinking about this a little I remembered reading something on Chips website about the HO trucks. According to him, 00, 01, and 02 trucks with a 6 speed and the 8th digit in the vin being a 7 designates an HO truck. Sooooo, take a peek at your vin when ya get a chance

'00 dead on road... 1688 code found,
do you know for sure your truck came from the factory with the 6 speed? I didnt know they were available in those years. I was always under the impression all 6 speeds were the HO motor but its kind of hard to argue with quick serve!

Strangest cummins you have ever seen
thats some serious weight on the front tire! It looks like a truck spindle welded to 6" box tube. I wonder how well it actually rides. Definitely up there on the cool factor

Trailer Brake controller
Hex what did you ever figure out with this? Im having the same problem with my trailer right now. Trailer brakes will not work with the brake pedal and the light on the controller wont change from green. But if I use the slide function of the controller the light changes from green to orange to red if I slide it all the way to the left and the brakes work as they should. I jacked the trailer wheels up and with the brake pedal hit there is absolutely no brake function to the trailer and I cant hear the magnets but when using the slider the wheels lock up and the magnets hum away. The same wiring is used to supply the trailer brakes so this kinda has me baffled why they wont work with the pedal. Its almost like I have the gain turned all the way down.

'00 dead on road... 1688 code found,
Blue Chip Diesel has a very informative writeup on diagnostics and common issues wi5h the vp. He is one of the more knowledgeable guys that rebuilds them. Even if you buy a pump from someone else you should at least take a little time and browse through his website. I learned a ton of information about these trucks through his website and talking to him personally. On my last truck i had some electrical issues that I or for that matter nobody locally could figure out. I called him out of desperation and he walked me through my issues. I ended up talking to him 4 or 5 times over the phone and thanks to him eventually found the problem. He didnt make a dime off of me and was more than happy to help. Not a whole lot of people will go to that length to help out someone they dont even know. That was one of 2 reasons I ended up buying a pump from him for my current truck.

'00 dead on road... 1688 code found,
Yes but alot of them are still selling used computers as long as they pass the bench test you are getting someone elses computer with unknown mileage. Remember theyre not rebuilding his pump and sending it back hes getting someone elses core and hes sending his in for a replacement. 1000 dollars is on the lower end of the price scale for a rebuilt vp they go all the way up to $2000 its possible theyre including a brand new computer but I would be surprised if they were...as you well know the electronics are the most common failure....

'00 dead on road... 1688 code found,
hey rancherman, does it come with a new computer or used?

It's been cold up in ND
I wonder if the front axle is rated for that kind of weight

What causes this crap?
My cousin has been substituting a quart of trans fluid every 3rd oil change for a long time. He drains approximately one quart, then adds one quart trans fluid and then starts it and runs it at a low to medium idle until the engine gets good and hot then shuts it down drains it again then fills with good oil and new oil filter. He does this with all his vehicles including his farm truck which has been used to haul hay wagons, gravity wagons, seen extended idling, lots of short runs, all the typical farm truck abuse over the last 14 years. We had the valve covers off a year ago to replace a leaky gasket and that engine looked clean as a whistle inside.

What causes this crap?
In our younger dumber years we had a circle track out back and we would buy up cheap cars (by cheap I mean 50 to 100 bucks) knock the glass out of em while they were parked over a tarp and race each other around the track. I found an Eagle for 80 bucks with a bad frame and on the first day on the track knocked the radiator out of it. I ran that thing around the track at least another 20 minutes before the engine flat locked up from overheating. Two hours later I went out and hit the key and it fired up. I ran that thing until it locked up twice more before it grenaded. Those inline engines were pretty dang tough

Did you find the source of the leak? Not sure if your jeep uses a belt or a chain, but Ive seen guides break and the timing chain rub a hole through a coolant passage inside the timing cover in a few different engines. If you do have a timing chain and arent sure of the mileage on it it may be something to check into

Hey Caj, how do they load the boats in those storage bays or whatever they are in that picture on your facebook? How high do they stack them like that? Thats pretty neat - - - Updated - - - A few more from work... Grove 855 (55 ton) with 115 feet of stick pushed out Grove 9130 (130 ton) with 170 feet of stick pushed out

Hey stodg does that ambulance have the Dmax in it? I dont think Ive ever seen the newer GM ambulance bodies like that before. The last time I was in PA I was rolling through a small community and they had a brand new dodge ambulance sitting outside the volunteer station. Ive been seeing some Dodge 5500 wheel lifts around lately tooMike your kind of the reason I figured Id start a thread like this you often put pics up of yourself or things you have going on but not very many of us do.Hopefully this will help us all get just a little more familiar with each other

DRipley we were working in Toledo a few years back building a water treatment plant and the hotel we were staying in was literally within walking distance of a dirt track. They ran every Friday night and practice on Tuesdays. Lots of sprints and outlaws. We looked forward to it as there was nothing else to do except stare out at the Lake and count the waves :duhZukifreek, it looks COLD where your at!Ryan too bad were not closer I think we could have some fun on the wheelers. Headed to Hatfield McCoy in exactly one month to go wheelin

How about lightening things up a touch and getting away from the day to day discussions.Im thinking about a quick look into everybodys daily activities, what do you all typically do day in and day out, whether it be work or pleasure? Lets see some pictures of some scenery if your outside, or maybe equipment you may wrench on or operate, whatever it is you may do. Ive come to realize in the year Ive been here I dont know a whole lot about many of you, so lets open it up a bit. (Hopefully this hasnt been done in the past)Ill throw one out from the other day I took from work pulling a dip tube out of a vessel. 36" pipe x 40 feet long. The smaller crane (furthest in the pic) is a 55 ton Grove with a cat and the one sitting closest is a grove 9130 (130 ton) with a cummins. Ive got some more Ill dig up from my cameraso come on lets see some insight into your guys day!
