Valve cover
Actually it was not high temp paint the black and red were both an industrial grade rustolium in a puff can. After I primed it I sprayed several thin coats of the black and once it dried I sprayed a little bit of the red in the cap of the can and painted the letters with a small artist brush. It took a little time (about an hour) but it was in the dead of winter and I just holed myself up in the garage with a couple of cold ones. The best part of it was it got me outta the house for a while :whistle:I will say I used this paint before on some hot surfaces so I knew it would be fine on my valve cover. If you have any doubts about the stuff your using you may be better off using high temp paint

Valve cover
I repainted mine a while back when I had it off to adjust the valves. I took a wire wheel on a grinder to it to remove the paint and then degreased it and blew it down with compressed air. For primer you should use an etching primer regular primer will not stick as well to aluminum. You should be able to find it at any auto parts store and they do come in puff cans. Once youve got a few good coats of etching primer you should be able to use whatever color you preferHeres how I painted mine, nothing special but looks alot better than it did

Raw Milk
Break up the big cities and flood them out into the country side! That would be the closest thing to a zombie apocalypse we would ever see out here! I was very close with my cousin who was one year younger than I and spent alot of time growing up on my aunt and uncles dairy farm which happens to be the 2nd largest farm in the county. They have taken dairy farming to another level over the years with their motto of "quality first". They have received various awards from the Ohio State University in milk quality. They take dairy farming very seriously and one walk through their parlor will confirm it. Having said that, when we were younger they would occasionally let us pull a ladle out of the bulk tank and take a taste of the milk it was like a treat. Both my aunt and uncle grew up on dairy farms and they grew up drinking milk right out of the bulk tank as did their parents (my grand parents). I think the main concerns with un pasteurized milk is the potential of bacteria like ecoli, salmonela, etc that can potentially be in the milk. Then you have the possibility of unsanitary conditions at the farm and youve got the potential to infect hundreds if not thousands of people and its too much of a liability for the big retailers to risk. Locally around here its still pretty easy to get ahold of but then again there is a lot of dairy farms and alot of amish and being very rural "everybody knows everybody"

Quiet free flowing exhaust
Ill get under and get a picture of it when I get home if its not dark out.

Quiet free flowing exhaust
Can i ask why you need a picture sir? So you can confirm my level of redneckedness? Yes it is really hill jacked but it does work, and quite well at that. By clamping something solid to the exhaust it takes the vibration or "resonation" out of the cab. If you really insist I could go out and take a picture, as long as its for informational purposes only!

starting trouble when hot
I wouldnt use teflon tape. A little piece could get into the fuel system, if its after the filters its going straight to the vp. On pipe fittings I generally use just a touch of anti sieze for lubrication. Lubrication is critical for proper torque of bolts and its also important to ensure pipe threads seal properly. Pipe fittings rely on the threads to make the seal, if they go together dry (1) dry threads cause friction and you wont get the fittings as tight as you would if they were lubed, and (2) you could possibly gall the threads especially on harder metals like stainless. For tubing fittings of that nature nothing is really needed as they generally seal themselves.

Our Tax Dollars At Work!
Yep, or how about when your standing in line at check out and the person in front of you is wearing expensive jewelry and clothes and texting on her I phone while the cashier is ringing her food up, than breaks out the food card and swipes it through the machine when its time to pay... I still cant get over that one. Hey if you need it thats one thing but people dont know what "need" is. They think they need assistance because with out it they cant go out to the club 2 nights a week and go shopping for expensive clothing and jewelry like the girl I saw. Worse yet the government allows it on a large scale. All you basically have to do is have a child out of wedlock and be unemployed and BINGO you qualify for assistance. Makes me want to get up and work another 16 hour day when I see stuff like that, which coincidentally is where I just got home from and where I have to be in another 6 hours :banghead:

At least a spark plug didnt make the hole!!

Maybe a new one...
Awesome! Hopefully you've got all the major bugs worked out of it, and can now drive and enjoy it!

Maybe a new one...
its quite possible your g56 may have had engine oil in it. alot of people have swapped out the atf+4 for 15w40 because the atf is believed to cause premature failure due to its light viscosity. My buddy had his g56 rebuilt last year and was going to use the gorilla juice like you but his trans builder recommended against it because he had heard alot of complaints of hard shifting in cold weather until the truck was good and warm. i want to say he used a synchromesh? oil but i cant remember for sure. i know hes had good results with it so far. Isnt that gj a concoction of different oils?

The 200 vs 190 thermostat expierment thread.
Its always ran around that temp as long as Ive had it and Ive been through 3 stats. My 2000 was very similar. They both BARELY run 190 in the dead of summer, so Ive chalked it up as "It is what it is". Throwing money away in thermostats isnt going to solve anything, other than lightening my wallet up.

Intercooler performance, maybe not so good
Hmm, I certainly wasnt comparing mpg and racing as you put it (read first sentence in previous post).Nor was I comparing turbocharged to naturally aspirated engines I was making examples of now each react differently to a CAI.

The 200 vs 190 thermostat expierment thread.
My scangauge does the same thing with connectivity every now and then. I think its in the plug not the OBD port because my Smarty fits nice and snug while the scan gauge leaves a little to be desired. The biggest thing that helped my heat was putting on wint,er fronts a few winters ago. I hated driving my truck prior to that it would literally take 20 miles of driving before the heat was even halfway decent but never felt really warm unless I drove a long distance like maybe. 50+ miles or was towing something. With the fronts on the temp comes up within 5 to 7 miles (this is all country road driving no stop and go) and my temp will maintain 180 to 183 if Im on a flat road. And the heat will roast my eyeballs right out of the sockets lol

Theres also a battery missing on that 12 valve I dont think you could ever get a large filter to bolt up without jamming it in the altenator maybe a smaller one like in the picture but I bet that small of a filter will probably be pretty close in cfm to a stock unit

This is what it looks like when I go to work...
Hey Cajiflynn, did you retire the 2nd gen from hauling?

Intercooler performance, maybe not so good
Fuel effieciency and horsepower : almost never go hand in hand. Colder air most definitely will make better horsepower, my cousin races a stock car and loves running at night because the cars all pick up a few extra ponies running that high test fuel compared to running during the day when its well above 90 degrees. With the IAT mod its more about manipulating the timing to maintain fuel mileage because with the colder the air temps the more the vp retards the timing to remain emission compliant. Without any IAT mod I think it is beneficial to run a filter thats drawing air from the engine compartment rather than down by the front bumper, but I could be wrong... But going back to the cold air intake Ive seen a few people put them on turbo charged vehicles because they fell victim to the hype...personally I dont see where they really made much difference. Just my opinion

12V Auto Picture request. Please?
Must not be any 12 valve auto guys on here at all? Have you made any progress lately Rick? Other than what your looking for here?

Towing Mirrors
Thanks dripley. With hauling season quickly coming up again I need to do something. Thats quite a reasonable price for them compared to $400+ that Ive seen. Too many blind spots with my little mirrors Im constantly breaking my neck one way or the other to see whats behind me. If I adjust them to my load/chains I cant see traffic and if I adjust them to the traffic I cant see my load.
