  1. I would suggest having the proper supporting mods (Billet input, upgraded clutch packs & triple disk torque convertor) if using it racing. Ed
  2. Cleaned & scuffed well, it is reported to hold just fine. Ed
  3. RIght on, Rancherman.... I actually have used a Dewalt inpact driver in forward & reverse repeatedly to pull the exhaust side. Ed
  4. It is an HX35 model, as you have the 6 speed. Download the rebuild manual from Holset. PLEASE check runout on the shaft & diameter to see if it truly is rebuildable. Get a GENUINE Holset kit. After reading the manual, YOU need to decide if you are capable, or have the proper tools & measuring equipment. If you go for it & are capable, they are super simple to rebuild. I have done dozens of marine Holsets (Same kit & instrictions). One trick is to soak it a couple days in trans fluid (Used is fine) to break up the carbon in the exhaust housing. It will make disassembly mucheasier. Ed
  5. Sounds like the FP sender is shot. Did you have a snubber or needle valve on it? Ed
  6. There or Ebay. The prefilters can get quite large for desired fuel flow, but are the best in the industry. The F500 would be fine for your truck. https://www.google.com/search?q=racor+f500&client=firefox-a&hs=v4u&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=fflb&biw=1600&bih=778&tbm=isch&imgil=HqLXLHTVhiY6fM%253A%253Bl5OMnBewh-WKWM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.cruisersforum.com%25252Fforums%25252Ff54%25252Fcleaning-racor-500-fg-filter-problem-15223.html&source=iu&fir=HqLXLHTVhiY6fM%253A%252Cl5OMnBewh-WKWM%252C_&usg=__kcdi2c7v67ID3tM7XOxFbwOz0lM%3D&sa=X&ei=pMUPVK3oDIScjAL0u4CoBA&ved=0CCMQ9QEwAA#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=HqLXLHTVhiY6fM%253A%3Bl5OMnBewh-WKWM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.jtts4x4.com%252Fboutique%252Fimages_produits%252F900J50_2.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.cruisersforum.com%252Fforums%252Ff54%252Fcleaning-racor-500-fg-filter-problem-15223.html%3B241%3B425 Sorry for the long link.... Ed
  7. Both of us are. There are different circumstances in our regions. Here, they can get away running their trucks on the Ag fuel. Ed
  8. The difference here in this area, is that the cops, state police, farmers & DOT are all Mormon. They run the red dyed fuel all the time. They get it delivered to the farm to fill theit 500-1000 gallon tanks that are just not filtered or dewatered well at all. That has caused the demise of the common rails. Ed
  9. Racor is the final answer on fuel filtration. Every large boat has one. Most heavy equipment OEM filters are rebadged Racors. Most semis are Racor. Ed
  10. As stated, fuel filtering/water separation is key. The CP pump is bringing the pressures extremely high & the slightest amount of water flashes to steam. That causes damage to the pump, then that damage is passed onto the injectors & hangs them open. Then, you have a plasma cutter cutting through your piston. Then you have wiped bearings, due to the diluted fuel. In the agricultural community I live in, there are virtually NO common rails left. Most have reverted to the older trucks, as they use their Ag bunker fuel, which is just not filtered well enough. JAG1 is smart in his filter selection. Racor is the leader in the industry. Ed
  11. I forgot all about them. They did turbo kits that were popular in the 80s. Seems quality, but I would still pay for the Holset kit. Ed
  12. Look up " K type wire extension " on Ebay. You just nees a screw type connection, as solder will introduce too much resistance & skew readings. Ed
  13. It will be Chinese junk. A real Holset kit costs about double & is well worth it. I have installed dozens of them. Ed
  14. To seat properly, I think you should loosen the injectors & go through the whole procedure. Ed
  15. There are many different choices on valve bodies & the companies building them all do it different. Best to call them about your application & see what they suggest. Ed
  16. Get the new grommets from Cummins, do the lower first, then do the horizontal, then pull the upper & back of head banjo & lay across the valve cover. Stick the tube in the T, with the nut & grommet on it, then tighten the banjo. Then, tighten the T fitting. Hold the T in place when tightening any of the grommet nuts. To make it easier & less bloody, remove the bracket with the 2 electrical connectors on the cowl, pull the bolt that holds the dipstick & swing it out of the way. Pull the stock fuel pump if it is still there. Be sure the kids aren't around, because you will be swearing like a drunk sailor that got mugged by a transvestitie prostitute. Ed
  17. Bring the washers into any hydraulic shop & they can match them up. I want to say 12MM or 14 MM Ed
  18. Glad it went in. It means that they did the weld properly & you should not have to worry about it. Ed
  19. Carfax.... Ed
  20. The tractors have a real quality filtering/water separation system. Ed
  21. Heck, a quad cab 4X4 in good condition sells in a day here for 15K. They know they cannot run their common rail on the farm fuel they store in their own tanks. Ed
  22. Here in this small farming community, most of the common rails are gone & they are going back to the older trucks for reliability. CRs have bad problems with water/contaminated fuel. It usually ends up with a hung injector & it cuts right through the piston. Then, where do you think the fuel goes? Ed
  23. The engineers design things well. The bean counters say "We can save 29 pounds of wire by going to a smaller gauge wire & save money in the process. They even use thinner mil copper clad on the boards & less expensive (Quality) components. Ed
  24. Most definitely, Michael. That could be one of the reasons that yours is lasting well, you are a meticulous maintaining MF. Did you get my email? Ed
  25. My thought on that is that the solder goes bad from heat cycles & connections go bad to draw the amps, because the voltage is not there. Or, the transistor is so hot that it messes up the connection, which in turn does the same thing. Ed
