2001 24 valve 4x4 auto steering gearbox

I tend to hold true with good ol' OEM steering boxes. I'm coming up on 300k miles and still no leaks from the steering box and still tight. When it does start to weep oil I'll just rebuild it and readjust the box and it will be brand new again without the big price tag of a Redhead or any aftermarket gear box. What ever you do not get a quick ratio if you have oversized tires.

Gentleman, the gear box is pretty smooth still but I know why it had been making sounds today, the loose bolt , there is 3 cracks,  gonna weld them  , any suggestions geno garage has one for 700 :(

Also it broke when i hit a major hole, oh wait that's any city street here in my hometown

Another reason I'll stay to the OEM box... I can't see paying $700 for any steering box. I just looked on RockAuto and ranging from $150 to $300 for steering gear box. Rebuild kits for OEM box is $14 to $17 very simple to rebuild yourself. I'm only 2k from 300k miles on this steering box.

Little known secret is that Bluetop steering does some work for redhead.

Thought he left redhead to open his own?

At any rate I highly recommend bluetop. I installed one on my 12v and it is the best steering 2nd gen I have driven. Just need to move toe in a bit on the linkage and replace the worn steering shaft.

He never worked for redhead, his dad started the Bluetop company here in ND doing truck steering gears and Ryan took it over and has expanded and is growing his business which has included doing some sideline work for redhead gears. He told me what he does for them but can't remember right off.

Do the cracks start at the loose bolt hole or is it cracked somewhere else?

I just had Ryan at Bluetop rebuild mine.  It started to leak at 300k and turnaround time was really fast.  Regular USPS flat rate $20, mailed it on a monday and installed that friday.  Really nice work.

I wasn't up to the task of rebuilding it myself.

Just gonna throw this out there, my truck has a PSC box on it. Granted it is an older model, but it is pretty loose. I've adjusted it multiple times and changed the actual linkage, but my steering remains loose. It seems like a pretty expensive "upgrade" for a not so great box. @TFaoro has driven my truck and can attest to this....
