Wife thinks I need a new truck

Well as the title states my wife thinks I need a new truck since we're moving back to Colorado. She doesn't want me to keep using my old 78 Ford for my winter beater and the 01Dodge is her winter transportation (happy wife, happy life). With that being said she thinks we need another Cummins so I've been on the lookout for an unmolested 2nd gen. I've found a few potential candidates. Which one would you consider?

And this one is definitely not being considered but I found the mileage interesting.

That is one fine list of trucks. Hate to think how much it would cost me to make look like those again. Especially the blue over silver long beds.

The last one, whats the worry about the miles. I am only 99k behind him and mine still runs good.

Yours is pretty much all highway miles. That one has a lift gate which to me means all stop and go city delivery miles. I bet the maintenance has been a little more routine on yours also.

I hope my maintenance is better but no where as good as @Mopar1973Man does to his. It is true on highway miles,  most of mine are from getting home and back. I do tow a fifth wheel at 15k pounds but thats only about 80k of the miles. I would like to know how many hours are on it due to it being my office a lot over the years with a lot of idling time.

I like the last 2 before the high miles one. But man 25k :wow: , maybe 20k would be better and it better be in excellent condition with no check engine lights. I personally just don't care for automatics unless it's a work truck that I don't have to pay for or fix.

Good to hear your wife is on your side :thumbup2: and with your knowledge I think you'll be fine making a choice.

Those last two are what I was really after when I was searching for my second 2nd gen but the demand has driven those prices clear out of my range. One day when the prices come back I may find an 02 6spd. I say if you can afford it then go ahead but I’d definitely haggle the heck out of em to get that price down!

This one was just posted in the TDR a few days ago.  It was very tempting to purchase.  The guy wants $17,500 - one owner, 137,350 miles as of Nov/03/2018

Looks like a sweet truck but I'm not fond of the interior color. I typically stay with dark colored interiors because they don't show my line of work as bad. No matter how much I scrub I still always end up leaving oil stains most likely because my skin absorbs the oil and grease into the pores then gradually sheds it back out. If I do end up with a truck with cloth seats I will likely convert to leather sooner than later since leather cleans up easy.

I'm really leaning towards this one unless I find something under the hood that I don't like. The only undesirable thing I can find by the pictures is cloth seats which I'll fix with seat covers until I can do leather.

The blue and silver one sure is pretty, but with only 2 photos it makes a guy wonder why the price is only $6,200.  I would certainly drive out of my way to check out that green truck.  The short bed black one in listing #2 sure has some shiny wheels in the 3rd photo!

With your knowledge I wouldn't be scared of it.  it would be nice to know what injectors went in, and a bit early for clutch, unless it has more power. I like the idea of 4 door but personally if I ever get one I'm skipping 3rd gen and going straight to 4th deleted of course. I guess you probably can't delete where you live, so a preemission one is the way to go.

make sure you know who the injectors come from.  If they are reman's say no or get $$ off for new injectors.

I for sure will check on the injectors. I've seen too many engine failures caused by junk aftermarket injectors.

Here's another I'm sure someone will rip the back pocket of their jeans trying to get their wallet out to buy.

So many choices... I don't know if another 2nd gen or a newer common rail is in my future.

I'm torn on what I wanna get for my next truck... My perfect truck would be a Ford F-250 with a Cummins CR 5.9 ISB backed by a G56 or Allison transmission. I've always wanted a Harley Davidson F-250 but I'm not very fond of the Intertrashional VT365 engine. I'm debating on settling on a Ford with a VT365 engine with future plans of transplanting a CR 5.9 ISB in when the Powerjoke craps out.
