I contacted Cummins to see about a replacement ECM. They have them for $2700. The 3946242RX part number also goes by ENCORE CM551A. But then I also see a 3942860RX (CM550) that also claims to work with a VP44 for $1500. And also a 3944124RX for $1300. But these other two, I have no compatibility info on. I love how the overnight shipping for a 5 lb. part is $250.

Hello Everyone, Well over Memorial Day Weekend the 47re began its slide to the point of no return on my way back from my camping trip. I knew this day would come when I purchased the truck (mechanical items don't last forever) so its no real surprise (still feels like this though ). Taking that into consideration, I have always planned to convert my rig over to manual as I am a 3 peddle guy. I am not concerned with the $$ (sort of) but am really concerned about doing it right with a solid end product. I decided on the nv4500, so I will be needing help from all of you 5 speed owners (or past 5 spds). The goal of this thread is to seek knowledg…

I've done the P1689 troubleshooting steps. I made it to the end of step #8. According to the steps, that means my ECM is bad. In keeping with the idea that "it's probably not the ECM," I've been trying to double-check the communication between the ECM and the VP44. I tried to put an oscilloscope on the VP44 today, to see if I could see the data. If I see the ECM's data, then it's the VP44 computer, not the ECM. I saw something that looked like PCM data, but I couldn't figure out how to set a stable trigger on it. I put channel #1 on the black & white wires (Pins 1 & 2), and put channel #2 on the green wire (Pin 8). Then I tried to tr…

This weekend I'm pulling out my god forsaken NV4500 and putting in a 5600. I have not for the life of me been able to confirm or deny if I'll also need to swap PCMs. My thinking is no but that answer is pulled completely from my arse. Both trucks and all parts are 2001s. I'm over here with random forum print outs and the full stack of FSMs like a mad man with no answer lol.

I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 and this thing has got a few issues. My lights are flickering at idle and the truck is running rough. Also my gauges the volts and temp gauge will go to zero then come back either by shutting the truck off or just driving it and coming back up mysteriously?? I have done the external voltage regulator swap and it help for a couple days, but then starting acting up. I know its not a ground issue because I have checked and rechecked them. The batteries are brand new as well a the alternator and they were both checked again to be sure. What do you guys think? Maybe the PCM crapping out? The only codes on the truck that I had was PCU 1594/1693 and ECU …

I ve always told myself if the raptor ever gives up I'm going with a mechanical pump, and so the other day it started giving me fits and loosing pressure, I tried to adjust pressure up but the electric motor just barley running and sound sick so I just gave up on it, and ordered a fuel boss from GDP. My plan is to keep the plumbing as simple as possible, by eliminating a back up electric pump altogether, just dont see a need for it, and if I ever have to prime I will just use the cordless drill method like on filter changes or something. (also going to stick with the factory block mounted fuel filter for heating purpose) So I plan on tapping in on the 1/2" line from …

Hi all... I discovered two cracks in my stock manifold. I have searched here and could not find too much... Can someone recommend a replacement for me? I would like to put something in that I do not have to worry about again and perhaps something with a port already installed for my EGT probe. I do not plan to add any performance upgrades... except maybe 75-90hp injectors down the road when these get tired. Thanks in advance..........

My truck died in the driveway several months ago. I ran it for a couple minutes to move it to the driveway. When I went to start it an hour later, it wouldn't start. I've since been tinkering with it for months. Replaced lift pump relay. Replaced fuel filter. Tested lift pump pressure (10psi, low, but should start) Unplugged and re-plugged: VP44, PCM, VP44 relay, apps, various connectors I could reach Replaced batteries with brand new. Added 5 gallons of fresh fuel. Originally, there wasn't anything I could do to start the truck. Then I learned how to hotwire the VP44 and the lift-pump relay. I was able t…

We are installing a replacement 5.9 Cummins engine in my sons 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. My question is on the engine wire harness just in front of the starter there is a Black wire with a yellow stripe, BK/YL, where do I connect this wire? Thank you for any help. Additionally. I just looked at the harness that came with the replacement engine and that same wire sticks out of the larger wire bundle about 6" which is same as on his truck but this wire is Black with White (BK/WH) stripe. I tried to clean up the one on his truck thinking maybe it's stained but it still show yellow stripe. Is this a ground that goes to the bracket under the fuel filter?

After changing my fuel filters, if it doesn’t kick off within 30 seconds, I usually grab a rag, pour some lawn mower gas on it, give rag a good squeeze until gas stops dripping out, open up air box, lay rag on air filter, (starter has rested by now), and turn the key. After it fires off, remove rag real quick. Engine does rev up a little, for few seconds but not bad. Today yacking with neighbor who is changing his filters on his back hoe says big mistake. What’s your opinion? Thanks

I searched the past 45 pages of articles looking before asking. 1999 Dodge Cummins 2500 with fuel leak at #5 cylinder at injection connector tube and injection line nut. The tube had a cracked O-ring so it was replaced with a new tube. On start up no leak, 1 mile down the road no leak, up on the interstate for 6 miles and it's leaking again. Retightened but still leaking. Pulled the line off to check the mating surfaces with also looked good. Still leaking, any ideas? Part 2: This is for me to understand. The tubes pops out easy, no problem getting the removal tool on the tubes. Once in place how does it stay in place and not turn when tightening? First time I change…

I have a 2001 3500 4x4 5 speed with 4:10 rear end. The only aftermarket parts this truck has are as follows- flo pro 4" turbo back, S&B intake manifold, S&B cold air intake, Edge EZ, and Edge insight CTS2 (truck had the EZ when I bought it.). Here are my symptoms...The truck will de-fuel while driving down the road, BUT ONLY IN 5TH GEAR. The problem does not seem to be RPM related because I can fuel all the way up to 2800 (or whatever it is) in 1-4th gear. The truck has absolutely no hesitation to crank, or supply fuel in gears 1-4. The only consistency with the issue is it seems to happen after the truck has been driven for 30 minutes or so and only de-fuels in 5…
