I originally posted this on Cummins Forum, any thoughts or ideas would be very helpful. Truck very intermittently (probably twice in the last month), typically in traffic, at low RPM and low throttle input will start rev ing up to about 2200 RPM and then die. If I immediately try to restart it it will not catch. If i turn the key off and let it sit for a 10 seconds or so it will start back up no issue. So low RPM, low throttle pressure it will start pulling, it will gradually pull until about 2200 RPM and then die. Manual truck so once i notice the issue i push the clutch in, once i push the clutch in it will rev to up to about 2200 RPM over about two secon…

All my hoses are original in 2001 with 107,000 miles. Hoses don't look bad on the outside. No cracking, leaking or soft spots. Maybe they fall apart on the inside first? 17 years old, time to replace or am I lucky or whatever? I'd rather fix in my driveway than along road somewhere, if they are reaching the end of their life span. How long of time do you get out of hoses?

Owners manual, didn't want to wade through entire 60 page manual, (unless I get one) Question...Can I use this in my 2nd gen most of time but also move it to a different car when I want? Or once you program it for a certain vehicle, that's it? Question...Do all the features advertised work on 2nd gen's or do only show some, because of (age, or type of vehicle)? Question...Would you buy another? If I'm going to get something like a Quadzilla someday , is getting scan gauge worth the money? don't some features overlap? Thanks

Just need a little help. Have an 02 Ram 3500 wont crank until it is placed on a battery charger with a start circuit or left on charge over night. I have replaced the batteries twice, left and right battery cables have been replaced, starter has been replaced, checked fuses and the relay they're all good, cleaned all ground connections put dielectric grease on them. At a serious loss on this. Starts fine if its been sitting on the charger overnight. Some days doesn't need the charger some it does. Have put a meter on the starter and when when the key is turned over there is no draw at the starter or batteries. batteries are both 12.7, 12.8. Any help would be appreciated.

So today I get a dead pedal / stumble off idle, erratically. First time it happened once on my 12min drive to work. Coming home it dead pedaled maybe three times. Could be dangerous when pulling out into traffic. Yesterday I did a 10 hour round trip at a high rate of speed, hit 130mph per GPS on my phone, did much of the trip at 85-100mph often pulling upto 110-120. Lets just say it was some real long, real open old highway and I had a long way to go. *I was trying to get back before it got really dark, any tips on additonal lights I could mount on my bumper that are cheap and effective I am open to. So the kicker is its a P0121 code, which after r…

Like the title says. I noticed this coolant right below the exhaust manifold. Any ideas if it could be a Head gaskets issue? Just changed the oil and it's not milky. The coolant still looks good.

Just put in a rebuilt NV4500 with a 1.375" input shaft, and fully splined output shaft. The guy who rebuilt it told me to use 50w full synthetic which I did, 1 gallon of Lucas 50w full synthetic was used. Drove it around town around 150 miles breaking in the new clutch, no issues, drove it this morning from Clovis NM to Lubbock Texas, it's a straight shot but some of the town the road runs through slows down to 30mph, no issues down shifting. There are also a few lights on this road that I had to stop at from 75, again no issues. Driving back to Clovis about an hour into the drive I went to pull off to a gas station and get a drink and it did not want to come …

I've just learned that valve lash that is done wrong or in a hurry and I didn't verify my measurements can have impacts on performance, idling, and lope. Just a few days ago I figured I would just verify the lash and cold engine I was having issues getting feeler gauge to pass on a few cylinders. I ran the head again and verified all my measurements after torquing the lock nuts. Now after a few days my lope at idle is gone. Performance has improved slightly and even the MPG is up slightly. So I've got to admit this was my bad but I wanted to share my mistake to hopefully help other spot weird performance issues and check the basic things that might cause issue. …

Alright I am working through the process of creating a true instant MPG meter. In theory, I love that word, we should be able to know how much fuel is being burned. We know commanded duration, we know speed, we know rpms. Below is the rough draft #1 for my testing, I am not concerned about it being %100 accurate. So my Question is when it comes to injectors in the VP44 system. If the vp44 can produce 125mm3 of fuel per stroke in stock form, what happens when you increase injector size? Does having larger injectors mean the vp44 will produce more fuel, IE 200 mm3 of fuel? Or is the 125mm3 the vp44 is spec'd to p…

I have a '99 24-valve Cummins that recently has been having starting issues. It was taking a long time cranking to start but I got my batteries tested and one was replaced under warranty. I also cleaned the terminals at that time and it was back to starting right up usually on the second or third crank. Then about 2 or 3 weeks ago I jumped in and turned the key to get nothing from the starter at all. I popped the hood and kinda felt the main wires and tapped on the starter. Then my neighbor came and turned the key while I looked under the hood and boom, started right up. Then it was fine until two days ago I drove to the gas station and on the way there my check eng…

Is there supposed to be any type of padding or protection between the metal strap that holds fuel tank in place and the fuel tank? Front strap is held in place by a metal bracket that strap goes into. Metal bracket is bent …trying to figure out if it was bent on purpose, to prevent strap from falling off…just in case strap ever came loose or is bracket bent from road debris? Figure 14-110 in parts manual doesn’t show anything between strap and tank , but maybe some type of protection a good idea? (My old Ford had something like gunny sack material between tank and strap. I replaced with a rubber inter-tube. But tank was from late 80's with a…

I have a few extra parts laying around after upgrading my truck. I was wanting to know how much the stuff would be worth. Some of the parts are 5 speed flywheel, Hx35, 4" downpipe for Hx35, Stock lift pump, MK-10 aftermarket filter, Manifold not cracked(Missing 2 studs as I used them for new manifold), Intake horn, Intake plate, Connector tubes, BD boost fooler. I think there is maybe 1 or so more parts I'm forgetting that I have replaced.

Prior to entering the garage the truck started and ran no problem, mechical fuel gauge worked, and had 3/4 tank, truck is 2002 ram 3500 24v h.o.I've noticed over the summer the old airdog has been dying so I bought a new 95gpm fass pump. completely removed the airdog fuel lines, wiring harness, mounts and everything needed for it. Followed the instructions for the new fass install, I used a pre existing draw straw in the tank to pull fuel. installed the new fass pump, primed the system and hit the key to cycle the pump to push fuel into a bucket, ran about 3 gallons no problem, then hooked the the supply to the VP and opened valve for fuel gauge. Crack injector lines 1,3,…

Yesterday I was coming home from a trip to the hunting property. Truck was running fine and then I hit a railroad track at 60 mph, when all of a sudden the engine got loud (valves seemed to clanked louder than norma) and I lost some throttle power. I never lost total power, just the majority. I could press the pedal 2/3 of the way down but didn't have much power. If I floored it, it downshifted hard and threw the rams up, but I didn't want to run it like that so I didn't do it but once. Other than hitting the rr track pretty hard, the only thing out of the ordinary was I filled up with fuel a few hours prior. I had a quarter tank prior to refueling (water in fuel po…

My batteries have been disconnected for about a year. Anything special I have to do before I can start it? Neighbor up the way asked if I had my beast running yet. Batteries have been disconnected so long of time he thinks I need to adjust or reset something before I can start it or run right? I asked him what the something was and I think he said APS or ATS? Guess I screwed up again...what do I need to do. Thanks

The issue I'm having has been going on for about 2 months now. Started out as a bad valve body. Pull the truck down in gear it would **** off I replaced the VB with a revmax HD and a triple disc converter with a low stall. Fixed that issue. But then about a week after while cleaning and prepping for paint I lost all power with symptoms of limp mode. Did some looking and codes led to low 5 v supply. Probes the wire and walls no 5v reference from the ecm. My question is is there anywhere else on the harness I can get a 5 volt feed to run to the map and iat to see if it fixed the problem before dropping the money on a new ecm. The truck spins over more now then it used…
