Hi Guys.. new here, but have been reading as a guest for a while. I’m always amazed at how knowledgable a lot of you guys are and all the helpful information available. Here’s my situation, and I’ll try to remember a much detail as I can and in the proper sequence. Last year my truck was sitting for about 7-8 months without use. I was helping one of my parents out of town and wasn’t able to do much else. So when I got home, my truck batteries were totally dead. These were new batteries, maybe 4 months old prior to leaving. I couldn’t get them to take a charge. Took them in, load tested, replaced. Then the truck’s EVS II system wouldn’t disarm and I think the d…

On an earlier post I was considering swapping my pump out to a friend and then ordering a new/rebuilt for me. Now that I have his truck here at my shop I am glad I didn't jump and do that. Upon driving his truck its misses and surges at initial throttle and at light driving conditions. When you put your foot in it, it takes off and runs great and doesn't miss or surge. It even does it going down hill holding it in third gear with very light throttle. The best example I an give you is it feels like a gas engine with a bad spark plug or spark plug wire. Differenece is Once you get past half throttle it runs great. As long as it has a strong pull it runs fine. I'm go…

Wanted to use some of you fellas experience. My ecm quit powering lift pump so most likely will need to replace it. When I lost fuel pressure, engine began to sputter till fuel pressure returned and got a p0216. AC voltage is ok and code hasn’t returned since cleared. Do you think my VP is ok and code showed up because I lost fuel pressure or is injection pump gone too?

my abs and brake light has been on since i bought the truck and after doing some reading i figured that it might be the rear sensor, so when I was at autozone ( or the twilight zone depends on who's working) I picked up a rear speed sensor. Then, i heard if the speedo is working (mine was), probably not the rear so i didn't install it figuring maybe i'll stop by my friend shop and use the snapon scanner that can read abs codes when I get a chance. Today I put the back axle up on some stands and pointed it away from the house and ran it in 6th gear, because i'am trying to isolate a 60-70mph heavy vibration and guest what no speedo. So, with the truck already in the air an…

I have had an issue with my 02 for about three years now. When it is cold out it runs like a champ. as the temps pass 60-70 degrees and the engine is hot it develops an inconsistant miss. It only does it in warm weather with a hot engine. It developed after I installed the 155 hp BD injectors and an II HRVP44 pump. They were installed about a week apart in the spring while it was still cool out so I never could isolate which caused it.I Have read that a bad vp44 computer will cause the miss when it gets hot.The next thing is if It is in gear or has any sort of load on it like head lights on or ac on ect it will run smooth but put it in park with every load sucking option …

Well i got my BHAF in today and was putting it on and jsut decided to peak and see if the silencer ring was removed and found that alot more than the silencer ring was MIA. All I could see was a black film of oil. :banghead: I called around here and could get that one rebuilt through work for $800. Started looking around online and found some that were $1100 for an OEM replacement. Called one place and they had their "in house" brand which had the same warranty as the Holset but half the price and I dont have to send mine as a core. I know you pay for what you get sometimes but I had to get the cheaper one and hope it is as good as factory ones:pray:With the expeditied o…

Ok one this may be in the wrong place and two I'm not familar with either the engine or the exhaust brake nor do I even know for shure theres a diference between the two. I am looking to install one on my truck due to poor service brake longevity about 30k on a set of pads and rotors and was looking for guidance and advice. Because Im woried more about engine life than brake life I was looking to pick your brains and find out if they cause any harm to the engine, our volunteer fire chief who has been an over the road driver for most of his life, does not like the use of them on our fire rigs because he believes it is cheaper to change brakes than an engine... I do know en…

Does anyone have access to the software that the dealer uses to view exploded parts diagrams & part numbers for our trucks? Or is there anything out there that allows us to do this? Thanks!

I installed a new fuel system i.e. Erics full Big Line kit but when attempting to bleed the air it took all my strength with a 19 mm wrench (big wrench) and I could not get any of them to loosen. I had to bleed the main feed to the injection pump and it fired right up. Now if/ when I need to loosen an injection line in the future it seems the 19mm nut will strip before loosening. It had to be the dealer that installed the in tank pump and new VP44 that over tightened them. Any tricks out there before I strip a nut or ruin a high pressure line? Thanks in advance.

I have 3/8" fuel line everywhere on my truck and was looking at getting Beans sump kit for next month's project, which comes with a 1/2" fitting. Can I run 1/2" from the tank to the fuel filter or should I run 3/8"?

Anyone know a good way to disable the alarm system? It's going off every time I use the key and then have to use the key FOB and hit lock then unlock to shut it off. I don't want to carry the key fob as I may loose it. I keep it in the door handle for whenever it goes off on me but, now it's all the time and had to disconnect the horn. T.I.A.

I finally pulled the trigger. The OEM filter had to go. It's been on there the 3 years or so that I've owned the truck. Filter minder wasn't showing anything but it was filthy anyway. So it was time for a BHAF. I had to replace the air filter anyway so why not upgrade?

I recently found a list of factory recalls for the 1998.5 Cummins. 1. Adapter to the trailer hitch. 2. Fuel line from the fuel filter to the vp44. 3. Re Programming the on board computer. Since I do not trust the Dodge Dealership to do anything but to screw me out of my money, I called them. My mane concern was the computer. They told me that it was done with their Computer which to me means that they just plug in a code reader to see what is going on. They said that they only re programs the part that controls the fuel throttle supply under the recall, if the computer required more re programming I would be notified and I agreed to re program any other defects I w…
