  1. With all of the problems people been having lately with trannys, at least some I'm sure, I decided to not wait any longer and ordered some coolers and filter kit for my transmission. Currently I run 7 qts of Amsoil synchromesh (http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/transmission-fluid/manual/manual-synchromesh-transmission-fluid-5w-30/?code=MTFQT-EA) for about 4 years and 20k ml now. Heard different opinions on how much to overfill, some say at least a qt some say 8-9 qts. This has probably been beaten to deaf by now, but also some time has gone by, so hoping for some input from guys that use Fast coolers (http://www.genosgarage.com/product/fc-6-spd-dg/transmission-coolers…

Ok guys as some of you know I've had lots of trans issues with my 5600 and was going to swap a 4500 in but after search cand find what I need so I'm look in to maby repair the 5600 which will require having the bell housing repaired but to have the machine work done I need to know the correct spec of the in put bearing hole so it can be machined to fit correctly.

Coming home from the gym last night, no trailer, no nothing, and btw I am completely stock so like 200 hp at the flywheel or less, and I heard the strangest sound a transmission could make when I was about to crest a hill, sounded like cats having a brawl in an alley or something, then it went clang, clatter, crunch and crash, now I have no forward or reverse gears and coasted to the shoulder... Mainshaft is broke I think, we pulled the drive shaft and yoke out of the back of the tranny, btw the seal is now definitely wallered out, and the output shaft will move up and down, side to side about 2 inches and can be pushed in about half an inch and out the same. Something ai…

Hey, dont mean to start a new topic, but I have a question in regards to how much oil is in my 6 speed currently without draining it all. Like how much oil can you put in from the fill hole on level ground? What about bolt at top of the pto? Only asking because I had a shop( which does good work usually) drain and fill it. I would've done it myself but time is something I dont have a lot of. I bought the oil, 6 quarts redline, and when I got truck back, I had 2 quarts of oil still left. Was told it may have had left over oil still in? Sounded odd, but they said they would check it. Brought It back, and a mechanic i havent met there came in and got …

FeelerI know there are aftermarket coolers that bolt on in place of the NV5600 PTO cover. I'm thinking of fabricating an inexpensive/affordable alternative replacement cover, not for added cooling but more for you guys who are not as concerned about cooling but more interested in just simple mods such npt ports for temp sensor, fill and drain with a magnet. Seems silly to pull the shifter for overfilling & pulling the PTO cover to drain. Why not a just a few simple npt ports. A couple of questions:Anyone have a spare PTO cover or 2 laying around? Looking for a few covers for prototype template fabrication/testing.Most guys are overfilling the NV5600. How many quart…

Well I am soon to be rebuilding the trans in my truck. I have rebuilt a couple of NV4500s and a few other manuals but never a NV5600. I keep hearing how the 5600s are hard to rebuild but I don't quite understand why. Anyone want to clue me into why they are so hard to rebuild? And please don't try to tell me I need 100T press to press the gears off. That has got to be the biggest load of crap I have heard about these transmissions. You may have the occasional trans that needs a little extra help but otherwise a 25T should have no trouble getting the job done.

So after I rebuilt my t case I rebuilt my 5600.....Whew what a job but its back together but Im having trouble finding the correct way to measure endplay on main shaft and counter shaft etc. Its all together minus the middle cover inside the bell housing. and I have new shim packs for both shafts. I might have went to far and might need to remove the tail housing to obtain correct measurement... Can anyone shed light on this method. I know what needs to happen, just not sure how to go about it lol. And I know specs are .002-.006 endplay. Thanks.

Mine is worn and has about an inch of play front to rear and i hate play. its the little black thing on the end of the stick shift below (cant get the image to work) http://www.allstategear.com/Shifter%20Components/Medium/NV25683.jpg

So I took off with a little extra spirit today and second gear decided to check out. Does anybody have and parts or have a good source to get whatever parts I may need when I open this can of worms? Also one more thing would help greatly is how much does this trans and transfer case weigh separately?

Next weekend when I drop the trans to install a new southbend I'm installing fast coolers and a trans temp gauge also. What should be considered hot for these trans? I'm running royal purple syncromax if that makes any difference.

hey i know this has topic has popped up heaps of times though im running out of ideas on mine 1999 cummins converted to right hand drive , i have replaced both ecm and pcm with remans from auto computer exchange, replaced transmission sensors solenoids.. speedo sensor on diff with new 5mm wires overkill i know, up to plug behind left wheel ive had all harness on engine stripped when i was diagnosing ecm issue, just recently was when i changed the pcm hoping that'd be the overdrive issue prior to that i had the switch on the dash mod so i know the transmission itself isn't the issue i spliced into wire for the o/d at the pcm so i know the wiring down from there is ok and i…

  13. I am posting this for my friend (neighbor to my mother). He has a 24V Ram, '01 I think. Anyhow, he has been fighting the lock-unlock problem for a while. I had him pull the alternator fuse and try it. Same thing, no change. I also put a multi-meter on the alt to test for AC voltage and it was .013 volts at the highest. I suggested checking the trailer plug and possibly the brake light switch. He did say that if he cleaned the battery terminals and reset the APPS it might be good for two months or two days. What else should he check?

Researching for another project I came across wideband o2's that are also diesel rated. I know some VW's have them for emissions. Other than that any reason to have one in our trucks? Only thing I could see is for tuning, but even then it seems to just be another way to

  15. Ok, so pretty confused right now and hoping for clarification. Btw it's a bit of a read... What happened, lost control of o/d switch/ could not disengage but trans acted normal, where I am at we have had some flooding so on my way to work in the dark I missed some high water around a bend and went through it at speed no deeper than the axles not even ten miles up the road o/d hunting began got to work a few miles down the road and called the builder of the transmission, this trans has maybe 20k on it and is still under warranty. He told me to come straight there after work finished work heading over to him trans acted normal again. My immediate thought…

  16. I just replaced my intake manifold gasket, checked/adjusted the valves, and swapped in some injectors (on the truck in my sig....). The truck starts, runs, and drives, but I have a check engine light with the P0222 code (APPS low input voltage). When scanned, it actually shows two P0222 codes. I erase the codes, but they immediately come back. Any ideas on where to start looking?

Ok gang... I'm going to share a few tidbit of information for advance OBDII tinkering. If you happen to have a OBDLink or ELM327 tool you should be able to tag along here. I will have to give a bit of thanks to @Me78569 for getting me started with the Bluetooth terminal on Android. Once I had that I could directly communicate with the OBDLink and pass commands to it. So starting out I passed the command... ATSP0 This basically tells the tool to communication with the detected protocol of the vehicle ours happens to be ISO 9141-2 protocol. After that I passed the command... 0100 Which happens to be PID Mode 01 with the PID 00 which tells th…

I'm looking at buying a OBDLINK LX can anyone that has used one chime in and let me know are they worth the money to buy. Will it actually read and display engine check light codes? Or would it be a waste of money?

Since I've been a big pusher of the ScanGauge II I'm now moving away from them. Being I picked up a Android Tablet for working on the web site I figured I would now pick up a OBDLink LX Bluetooth for diagnostics and also enhanced data. Like SmartyTouch has enhanced data like fuel temp and other things like Quadzilla and Edge does too. So if a person wants this information your stuck buying a expensive product. Now I'm working to get this data for the Common Joe. Here is what I've got... http://www.obdlink.com/lxbt/ Now here is the documents I've found for this project. saeJ1979_2006-08-25Ballot.pdf ISB_TROUBLESHOOTING_VOL_2.pdf 54262388-Cummins-Isb-Ch…
