Morning guys, I’m wondering what I will need to have my trans hold 350 hp and reliably tow? I have a deep pan on the way and planning to do a lockup switch. I’m thinking I will do a set of rv275s and a small tuner of choice. So that’s about all I’ll be doing for power. Also what do I need to know about monitoring trans temps? What is to high and what is safe?

  2. I currently have a valve body that was "Professionally" rebuilt with a TransGo SK TFOD-Diesel shift kit. I had a single disk converter at the time. I understand that the shift kit has different procedures to follow whether you have a single or triple. I think this has to do with the size of hole drilled for the lockup circuit. Is there anything else? I'm swapping in a Goerend 17SS triple disk converter, and a billet input shaft. If I leave the valve body alone, what can I expect? Am I in danger of damaging something? Is lockup going to be violent, or will it be manageable? If I need to rectify this, what am I looking at? New separator plate? Pluggi…

So bought a kit and tore into. Just to see. I did file a thing yeah a thing. And enlarged ports one size up. Was cool seeing it and seeing what had been done already. A few drill bits bumped up file the thingy. Got the TV throttle stop on the wrong side of the stop bolt. Luckily backing the bolt out allowed the arm to go by. I pulled clip on park rod. Went back together pretty quick. Sitting here thinking on it. I've adjusted band per transgo directions snug it with short wrench and back out 2. Pretty sure it went back to where it was. I love pressure screw were I had it. I was just shy of 150psi at wot before I dou…

Hi all, Doing a service on my 47RE Fluid, Filter, band adjustment. Since I have the pan down, would like to put in my TransGo shift kit. Any how to's on how to remove the 47RE? I found them for the 48 & 46 but would like a 47 specific so I don't mess it up. Once I have it down, TransGo did send a detailed instruction. But since I'm an Auto newb, you guys are my backup! Thanks, Dave

  5. I have a 2000, with a pacbrake that I added a while back. Trans was just redone, and the VB should allow lockup in second. I want to add a lockup switch for towing and better exhaust braking. Anyone know how to wire this up? The wire you wood normally tap for lockup switch is one that the pacbrake has you cut and splice into their control box. I really want to make this happen, but am unable to get any good wiring instructions.

So, when my transmission gets up to 140 degrees or warmer it will not downshift to 1st gear when coming to a stop. I can manually downshift to 1st gear then place the shifter back in drive and it'll work like normal. When the transmission temp is below 140 it downshifts as it should. The only mods to the transmission are a transgo shift kit, borg warner governor pressure solenoid, and a BD Diesel transducer upgrade. I checked the tv cable, but it was already adjusted properly. What could the issue be?

  7. Bought truck from a friend that said it needed to warm up a few minutes before it shifted right. Test drive took 1/2 mile not shifting before shifting perfectly. I would let the truck warm up about 5 min and it shifted fine, for 4 months, 95% of the time. Sometimes, after just shutting it off, I had to drive around a parking lot until it shifted right or stopped and restart. I replaced the two pressure sensors, replaced the accumulator spring (was broken) with upgrade, and the bar( broken) on the front band adjuster. No luck. ONE TIME while driving around the block I shut it off, started it and immediately dropped into drive and it shifted perfectly through all gears. Non…

Hello all, This has been going on for quite some time now. It's not too often that it bothers me but it's something I want to address come spring. Whenever I take off from a stop hard and i mash the skinny pedal to the floor the truck takes off but i hit the rev limiter and the trans wont shift out of first gear till i back off the throttle. It shifts great when I take off normal and if I mash it in any other gear its fine. I've had the bands and clutch packs replaced and they are adjusted properly. The pressure is turned up to 65 psi on the valve body. The TV cable has been set correctly. Is it possible I need to replace the solenoids insid…

  9. So Mike let me come hes selective about that ;) Lots been going on. Picked up a f150 to drive while my truck was down but ended up giving it to my daughter. So i was out a daily driver stuck driving our work truck a 04 cummins. My tourque convertor went out with 170k on it. So i bought one local after seeing the guts they put inside The convertor in my truck was supposed to be low stall it was stock, didnt have a one peice fiber, it wasnt brazzedd for support basically the cheapest thing you could get So i got a lower stall billet piston brased, one peice fiber, reamed for more volume. …

I am easy on my trans. NEVER get it hot. Tow a 12,000 gvw 5r. My 2001, 2500 has 150,000 miles on it now. I am getting nervous about leaving on a long trip about the age of the trans. I know the reputable transmission shops here at home. What would you do?

I am about to put in my 4th computer, the first was used and installed a few years ago, the 2nd was new from cummins, Aug 08. 3rd new from cummins Feb 09, and now it's time to install another. Cummins won't warrantee them because they don't show any codes??? I am running a hypertech reprogrammer, usually set to stage 3. When it runs it runs great but i cannot find anyone who can tell me why it keeps trashing the computer. Has anyone else had this problem or am i the only one?

Hi all, it's been awhile, I had my trans rebuilt about a year ago w an RV converter upgrade. It has been great. So last week I pulled my 68 Comanche 16' camper trailer about 800 miles from my home to Tybee Island, Georgia for a Vintage Camper Rally. Not even a hiccup! I just drove the truck a few times w no camper while down there & it was fine. On the way back, it would hunt & then go back to normal until about 1/2 way home than it seemed like it would slip in any gear. I watched as my trans temp gauge started to climb as did my engine temp, so we decided to stop at a truck stop for about 10 minutes. After that it was fine until we hit the hills of West Virgi…

If there's already a thread could someone link me it? My gearbox on my 99 is leaking pretty badly, like from full it'll leak out in a day, and instead of just resealing the gearbox can I just install a 4th gen steering box? I remember someone I follow on Instagram putting one on his 2nd gen (I don't know the year) but I didn't know if it was possible on a 99 since it isn't the newer front end. Anything helps. Thanks!

Ok first time posting on a forum so if I put this in the wrong category..beat me accordingly. Btw, this site has been Awesome in helping me sort out updates & upgrades for my 99 so Big Thank you to all that contribute. 4th gen 2500 OEM 18" wheels fit a 2nd gen 2500? From what I have read thus far, yes they will. Only 1 issue & that being the axle being out about an inch or so farther on the Gen2. 2" spacers on rear only apparently remedy that. 4th gen tires are 275/70/R18 I have 20" on mine now, but am wanting to downsize just a little. I did find a pic of someone that just recently put the very wheel combo I am wanting to buy on his 1998 with th…

I tried to put the truck in 4WD Lo with transmission in neutral. i was able to get out of the snowpile no problem but, when I tried putting it back in 2HI with transmission in neutral I got a grinding noise. I paniced as the transmission wouldn't catch a gear. Finally it caught a gear but, when I read up on the owners manual it says truck needs to be rolling 2-3 mph to engage the 4wd, is that with transmission in gear or neutral coasting?I need to learn how to engage this thing properly.

So I finally got around to trying to fix the 4wd engage in my truck. For the past couple years I just had to pull it out and drain the vacuum actuator to get it going again, but this time the rod that slides the coupler over is bent. I figure, no big deal, I will run over to oreilly's and get a new one. I got there only to get the shock that they wanted $90 for the cheapo chinese one. A quick look online shows a couple for 60-70, but still. So question is do I bite the bullet and just replace the actuator or do I po the posi lock method for $159 ish? I think jegs has one for 109 right now. Anyone been here and done that? Nick

Yesterday I was trying to pull my loaded trailer out of a snow covered driveway. I spun the tires in 2wd so I moved the transfer case shift lever from 2H to 4H but the front wheels did not spin on the snow while the rears were spinning. I shifted to 4L and same thing. I have no knowledge on these truck as far as the 4wd system. Any thoughts or hints on what might have happened and how I should proceed from here?

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out my 4wd problem. This is the first truck I've had with 4wd. So I do not know very much about it. I have opened up the front end before to do seals and whatnot as well as the brakes. I did this back in Sept. I've had a recent transmission rebuild done as well.I have used the 4wd multiple times before and after my tranny rebuild and a few times before I opened up the front. I have also done fluids on everything as well.I took a trip from Sandpoint down to Spokane on Fri. The whole way there I had to have it in 4wd. It functioned without a problem. Tonight though, I drove from Spokane to CDA which is about 30 miles. I had it in 2wd. Once I e…

Well the time has come to tear into my NP241DHD, I just bought an overhaul kit, ( seals and bearings only). I will be dropping the transfer case at some point next week / weekend. Issues are I have a random grinding when I hit bumps, either in the CAD system or in the transfer case. Pulling the stick back to 4x4 makes the noise go away, but I not longer have a working vacuum actuator either so I don't know if it CAD is to blame as I really doubt it is able to move the collar. I also have no ability to go into N or 4l in the transfer case. It literally hits a wall trying to push from 2wd into N, so I am GUESSING that the shif…
