Want to see what you guys think on this subject. Couple of things, one is why do we need to run atf+4 and not something like even 10-30 motor oil or some similar weight hydraulic fluid. And two I'm in process of messing with my leaky tcase from rear output seal. I changed it for the 3rd time now, but this time I changed tail bushing too, it got deformed up on install at the oil drain grove, at least driveshaft feels tight now. It did have a drip after first trip but now it's seems ok. Some residual fluid from lubing it on install maybe. So I just want to flush tcase for some reason. Question is what do you think would happen if anything if I mix matched differe…

For some time now I have not been able to switch the Transfer case into N and therefore no 4l either. I have 2wd and 4h. This happened due to my dumbness. Last year when I swapped my tranny I caused this. I had the truck up on jack stands and the truck was idling and I was going between P R N D to make sure the tranny was working. Now I made the mistake of testing the transfer case with the wheels off the ground so even in P the rear wheels were moving slowly. once I kicked it out of N iin the transfer case It grinded but finally went into 4l. I then tried to go back to N in the Tcase and it grinded again and when into N. After that I put the rear of the…

The research ive done seems to say that the rear seal on the nv5600 is leaking. Where is the best place to get a seal and is there any seals on the transfer case that i should do since it will be off? The trans was rebuilt less than 20k miles ago so seems weird that its leaking that soon. Here is a pic of where the leak is coming from and it is yellow in color and i dont mean the yellow paint lol. Cant see the oil in the picture. Want to make sure i get the right seals that will fix the problem. Thanks

Just changed the fluid in the Transfer Case in sig below and went for a drive of about 50 min. - 50% at ~60mph and the rest stop and go at 45mph. The transfer case was hot - just a little too hot to keep your hand on it but not as hot as the auto trans pan. Is this about right? I thought the Transfer Case would be cooler since it is was in 2H and not actually being driven (as in 4L or 4H) - although it is a live axle!? Did another drive on the Interstate for ~ 1 hour. Transfer case was too hot to keep hand on and was hotter that the trans pan!Is any of this normal? I do REALLY want to know!?

Good Morning all, my transfer case has been leaking out the tail for too long and I need to attack it this weekend. Anything special I need to know, or special tools? Timken seal good enough for the job or is there something better? Thank you in advance for wisdom and experience. Brian

I started a 6hr drive last friday and 30 min into the drive my transfer case started popping into neutral ( 3or4 times). I was pulling a empty 18ft trailer. I swapped the trailer with a friend that was headed the same way, drove my truck back to the house and it did the same thing twice. So I had to hold the transfer case knob the rest of the way home. Any Ideas on were to start? (Right now I have a bungee cord hold light tension on the shifter)

Anyone using the Transfer Flow toolbox/fuel tank combo? Made a deal with a gent here in town last week and now I have a 50 gallon unit sitting in the back of the truck.Have not hooked it up yet and playing with options.First option is to hook it up using their computer display and enjoy. It monitors the fuel level of the main tank then adds fuel as needed in 5 gallon slugs.Had also wondered about just using it as an Aux fuel tank and putting a "on/off" stitch and controlling the flow manually. Before I do this, wondered if anyone else on the board had done this and had any suggestions or tips.Thx,FT

I'm replacing my transfer pump the one on the truck is not the original one,I bought a FASS DDRP 02.The suction is a different style fitting,it seems like a stainless tubing with a quick connect, did anybody ever experience that,to adapt the FASS pump I need to cut the stainless pipe and adapt some kind of a fitting ,in my package they sent me 2 banjo fittings /filter/rubber hose. Not sure what pump they had in there, the suction tubing must have been replaced that quick coupler seems like a good set up,it would be a waste to remove it.:duh:How can I attach pics to my thread

So I pulled the trigger on the transgo SK TFOD-Diesel kit today. I'm not happy with how the tranny acts while I tow my fiver so I'm gonna try this kit. I also ordered a new Dorman pan 265-827 off Amazon because mine might be warped, and this one comes with a drain plug. My questions. What else should I order while I'm in there that should be done. I've read something about billet intermediate servo, accumulator, band strut, band anchor, 3-4 spring, and upgrade the governor solenoid ? But that's jibbrish to me at this point in my research. I'm not looking to drop the trans out. Just whatever I can do to the VB. Also so any tips or write ups of he…

Today I had new front cab mounts installed on my truck. 2001 2500 auto. There is a lever I am assuming that does something with the transmission on the driver side front cab mount. And now we are having trouble with the truck going in and out of neutral while driving. Please help

This morning I drove the truck to take my son to school and then run a few errands. Transmission shifted normally, truck ran fine, nothing out of the ordinary. This evening I went to pick him up from school and once I hit the road it wouldn't shift out of second gear, not even manually. I get to the school, check fluid, its full and was just changed in October when I installed the new torque converter. I shut the truck off, started it back up, and it shifted fine for about a half mile then it started hanging in second again. I pulled up to a stop light and it started jerking and bucking, so I threw it in neutral. I made it to my driveway in second gear then trying to get …

okay first an update on the clutch ....so far so good ..no problems out of the new south bend ..other than it seems a little more nosy than the old clutch ...kinda chattering ......still hard to go into third unless its double clutched.......i also am wondering if any one has heard of exhaust brakes being hard on the engine?....i know they help save service brake ...but if they wear the engine unnecessarily it doesnt seem worth it to me...finally (sorry)...how difficult is a p7100 pump change i had the pump gave to me for free

Hey Guys, Pepsi here with another article. This one I feel is pertinent for diagnosing transmission issues. I've compiled this from a few of my articles and some more threads. I also got help from my one friend Mitch who was nice enough to copy a ATSG manual for me. ALWAYS THE FIRST STEP…. CHECK YOUR DAM FLUID! Ha, yes you guessed it most times low/high fluid levels will cause tons of issues, its best to check your fluid first. Checking your fluid can save you a ton of time and agony especially if you’re following gremlins around. So to check your fluid you must …
