Just had alternator rebuilt Monday and worked fine for couple of days. Yesterday when I started truck the check gauges light came on and I noticed voltmeted wasn't coming up. After about 30 secs it came up to 14v. This morning same thing and I noticed torque converter lock up problem until I drove about 15 miles then it stopped. Had alternator redone but still same problem. Batteries load test good. Alternator plug is tight. Any ideas?

Measuring AC voltage at the alternator. Getting approx. .01 to .02 volts. Sometimes it will spike up to .05 volts AC. Is the alternator diode going out? I'm occasionally getting the hunt at 45-50mph. When the grids cycle, the AC volts are in a pretty good swing, too. But obviously they are not cycling at that speed anyways. Just wondering what your guys' thoughts were to it, as I sure hope its not the TC!

Wondering if more filtration would be a good idea? Completely stock except Airdog fuel pump with… fuel filter is 2 (or3) micron and water I have no clue what spec’s are. I change out filters every 6,000 miles. Filters are whatever Vulcan sends me when I ask for Airdog 100 filters. Fuel line goes from Airdog pump to VP44. Fuel is bought at high volume places and I change my filters and other fluids often. (All except steering fluid I'm pretty lazy on.) If more filtration is suggested, what is a good set up in your opinion? Thanks

Anyone run Amalgamated's diesel additives? Too bad they were not included in the tests.

Real close to 100,000 miles. Wondering if knowing the amount of blow by from slobber tube might be useful as to the health of internal parts at later date. A bench mark number to refer to. Only way I can think of to measure would be to measure amount of blow by raises a water column like a rv propane tester. (Versus an actual psi gauge, that might mess up a gasket, but not sure. ) Any info helpful...thanks.

Well, looks like my Amsoil can't hack it! I'm pretty dissapointed with this as I'd only read and heard good things about this filter before installing it, with the only failures or negative comments coming from a guy who was running twins. Either way, my truck has no tuning and exhaust only so it's hard to think that a truck in pretty much stock form could do this to a 'premium' air filter! Anyone know a place I can pick up a BHAF on the cheap?!

  9. I know most of you use a BHF but this question is about the stock filter. I bought a Amsoil air filter 8000 miles back. Supposed to last 100k if blown out every 25k. Supposed to be made with some super fiber. My problem is at 8000 miles the restriction gage pops 65% plugged non towing. The filter is CLEAN! no dirt to speak of on it at all. I am confused.?????

Everyone claims the stuff is great, except for a few pages i found on the internet. They also really have a lot of websites for this stuff. Seems like Mary Kay or Avon for men. Does anyone actually have any proof this stuff works? I would still be worried about running any oil 25k without oil analysis, which adds even more to the cost of the oil. Do you guys think it would be worth it? I am currently running Valvoline Premium Blue @ $12.99 a gallon, so approximately $33 a fill. Amsoil Heavy Duty Diesel is $75.15 for 2.5 gallons.I read an article where a guy ran a 12-valve for 1 million miles and it was still going good but a little worn out on nothing more than off…

Thinking I (want or need) more fuel filtering. Right now no problems with airdog 95 or 100 (cant remember which) going from tank to airdog directly to vp44. 2 or 3 micron I believe. Want to install a 8 or 10 micron before fuel goes thru airdog filter. In late 90's or 2000's at work some of our trucks had water and fuel filter that was plastic see thru, that you could just look at and see fuel drizzle down into plastic bowl or not. Getting a visual on fuel came in handy to see if any fuel problems going on. Like out of fuel, pump not working etc. ( I do have a fuel pressure gauge) never had a problem with cracking or leaking. I'm trying to find a system …

Alright, so as the weather continues to get warmer, I find myself with the window down more and more. As nit picky as I'am I seem to get myself well-attuned to things when I use it or operate it enough.Well, as it may have it, my eagle ears picked up a paculiar noise. Performance wise, I do not seem to notice a difference. So my curiousity arouses me...Driving home at the 30mph limit, I noticed a sort of rattling. I can definitely hear it better when at a light stopped. So when I pulled up to my house and parked it, the noise went away. Put it back into gear, and the rattle noise came back. Put it into Park, and the noise goes away...ANYONE have any idea what it is?I was …

Do you guys worry about the stuff in this video? Measuring alignment issues. Or just cram the transmission in?

  15. I have pulled my valve cover about 3 times in the past several months trying to track down where a ticking noise is coming from. I think I have narrowed the tick down to the very back no.6 exhaust valve. I don't think it's normal to be able to hear this sort of ticking from inside the cab when applying the gas. I noticed this tick around 25,000 miles on the truck & right now it only has a little under 40,000.This last time that I pulled the valve cover I found the valve to be out of adjustment & so I tightened it up. Before I adjusted it I pulled up and down on the rocker I was kind of surprised but there seemed to be a small amount of movement between the roc…

  16. For 99 owners, where did you tap for your fuel line to gauge. My filter housing doesn't have anything on bottom to tap into like Mike's does. All I have on filter housing is the inline from the lift pump and the out line to the IP, both are on top of the filter housing. Also there are 2 capped ports on top, sorry no pics right now. Is the out line to the IP where I would thread in my tapped banjo bolt for the fuel line. Also, is it okay to run braided line all the way to mech. gauge, don't want isolator. Plan on doing the needle valve setup. Will braided line go into the gauge, i.e. will it thread into the port on the gauge itself, or do I have to do the nylon tubing kit…

  17. Hello. I was wondering if anybody can answer me this one just to satisfy my curiosity. Theres a guy over on CF who's Raptor 100 quit due to dirt in the gears. He got a P0230 which makes sense and also a p1689 code. How can lift pump trouble cause a 1689? The last time I got one the VP was done. What really baffles me is he said once the lift pump was fixed it cleared all the codes. What am I missing?

  18. I've had this truck for many years. Drove it 5 hours from Houston and use it on the farm only. Always had the no bus code. Starts, runs no issues at all. At first I looked into it. Speedometer also wouldn't read. I replaced the speed sensor and followed the wiring and connections back to the dash. Now speedometer displays 15mph when not moving.. It does move but never bothered to compare speed to actual. It does also have a parasitic drain on the batteries if left connected. Previously I had followed wiring and connections and no change to the no bus. No other lights or other issues known. If he batteries are week the it won't start and the 4wd l…

Hi all, I have what I believe is a 47re trans. question, so I'm a new owner of this truck and I'm admitting I'm more than a little nieve when it comes to transmissions. Anyhow, the truck seems to run pretty good and has a "built" trans. as in shift kit, beefed up torque conv. etc.. The prior owner said you have to kinda power brake it when it's cold or it dies when shifted into gear, said it had something to do with stall or? Well sure enough every time it sits overnight I have to go through the same ritual and then the rest of the day it does fine, idles fine, @750ish? Runs great, shifts great I've tried letting it sit and warm up for quite a while, but no, same thing lik…

Hey all, I've been looking for info on the issues my 47re is starting to have and I can't seem to find a set of issues that is the same as what my truck is having, so I need some help troubleshooting. I'm a broke college kid and I need my truck up and going strong for winter snow removal but can't afford to have the trans professionally done. Starting about a week ago, the trans started slipping from a dead stop. This didn't happen often (maybe 5% of the time) and still isn't happening often, but now I get this whooshing/whistling noise once in a while and the truck won't shift cleanly into 3rd. I have to be going over 2000 rpm and then drop below 2000 while mainta…
