Hi Guys, I have been learning alot about my cummins from reading these forums. This is my first post, so please forgive me if this topic has been covered. Background: I finally got my quad adrenaline board replaced and I had no boost pressure. I replaced the map harness because there were a couple butt splices in the wiring and presumed that was the problem. Once I changed the harness I have a boost reading on my control pod of 48-51 pretty consistently no matter TP, speed, ect. I did some reading on here and found out some map sensors "Fail High", which seems to correspond to my issue and also gives good reason to my poor mileage 8-10 mpg. Occasionally when I s…

Hi Guys, I was directed here from BigFish over on the cumminsforum.com My 01 won't start at all. For the past few weeks it was not starting back up once HOT. I pulled the fuse to the lift pump to see if it would then start when hot, to eliminate the possibility of a diaphragm issues in the vp44. It would not start. It did start the next morning and threw the code P0118, coolant temperature sensor. I replaced that sensor, and everything seemed fine. IT would start back up when hot after replacing that sensor. Then a week later at the diesel station, it did it again. Would not start back up when hot. I waited 20 minutes, and she fired right…

So being underway with the Ppump swap. i have Scheid Lines and a D&J grid heater delete spacer that is also a 1/2 inch taller and my monster ram hits on my lines and doesn’t go all the way on the spacer. Its almost if I need a 1 inch spacer over stock and it will clear maybe, but I don’t want to be to tall so the hood doesn’t close ? Has anyone ran into this and what have you used to clear everything? (Lines, hood, ect) This is on a 2001.5 24v pic includes is what I’m talking about.

Ok- I'm about to embark on an oil cooler gasket replacement. Has anyone done it? Any tips? My search of the site has not given me any guidance, so I'll post whatever I learn in the process. if you know of any resources, please let me know. My oil cooler leaks coolant intermittently, mostly not at all bust occasionally a lot, enough to require a gallon or more of new fluid in a day or two. I found the cummins parts for $35 on ebay. I'd welcome any input...

I recently put a HO pump on my SO motor and it idles at about 1100 rpm once it warms up. If you floor it it’ll idle normal. But the ECM has a few high voltage codes for sensors so I’m wondering if the 5v supply is going whack or if I need to get an SO pump to put on.

Last week is when this started. I was chasing that P1689 code and ended up replacing the data link connector on the edge harness and it seems okay so far. But looking at the map sensor connector this morning i noticed it was missing the rubber seal on both end of the connector and the pins looked to have some oxidation on them. I cleaned them and put some grease on there and no luck. Whats weird is no check engine light and everything seems to be running normally. If i didnt look at the gauge i would have had no idea it wasnt reading anything. Im hoping someone knows what that connector is called or who makes it so i can order one up and replace it…

Good morning everyone, Yesterday I started using 2 stroke oil at fill up. I have a reman vp44 from T-bred with 1000 miles and been reading 2 stroke oil is the way to go for pump longevity. After I filled up I noticed my FP was at 14.5ish lbs compared to the 15lbs it was at before adding the 2 stroke oil. Is this normal? Has anyone else seen this? I have an Airdog 4g lift pump so I'll just increase the pressure tomorrow but thought it was odd my fp would drop. Tim

Today I happen to notice this larger puddle of oil under the truck. Looking underneath it was coming from the PS pump and dripping at a rate of a drop every 30 seconds or so. But why...? The engine had been off for a day and no one was ever in the truck at any time doing anything like trying to turn the steering wheel or touching the brakes. Thinking a hose let go, I eventually came to the conclusion that for whatever reason the PS fluid level raised up high enough to spill out the top and make a mess...with the engine off no less. Yes, the fluid level was very high. Then an hour later when I was parking the 5th wheel back in its spot I felt this weird b…

A few months ago I replaced the in tank lift pump & kept the old one to take apart & mess around with. I really like the idea of the fuel pump in the tank, IMO that is where the pump should be. the Gasser cars get hundreds of thousands of miles on in tank pumps @ high pressure, It sure seems like someone should be able to make a diesel transfer pump that could do the same..... in any case, Ive often wondered what the yellow cross thing is in the module so I took it apart & figured you guys might want to see.. I figured someone might need to know which wires goto which pins on the inside connector. …

I have a 24v 5.9 Cummins 1999 with the vp44 injection pump that doesn't have the power it once did. My fuel pressure is 12 at idle speed and 10 at WOT... The engine runs fine, starts very good, and no smoking of any color. It's very slow on take off, barely gets to 2,300 RPM only on a down hill it would reach as far as 2,8000... All my fuel fuel lines and fuel filters are NEW... PLEASE HELP I'M OUT OF TRICKS...???

Is there a way to test VP44 health when there is no codes? My truck ran like crap this morning. Very chattery and doggy. I’m wondering if my VP isn’t going south. It started pretty well but was pretty chattery for only 25 degrees. Scanned for codes and got nothing.

I know it's not cold enough yet but, to lessen my idle time by the house this winter (baby) so I plugged in heater to make sure it worked and everything was normal. I plugged in the cord for the first time in 2 yrs and the plug ark welded itself to the power cord, and where the plug goes into the heater element started to smoke an make gurgling noises. Is is there a way to test the cord or the element to figure which part is faulty? As far as I know the element and cord are factory.

I know this should start a interesting debate but I’m curious everybody’s opinion.... I want to change the oil in my Cummins turbo, curious what brands you guys recommend, previous owner ran Rotella 15 W 40 and change the oil every 7 to 10,000 miles, he also ran a quart of Lucas at every oil change, my question is what are you guys thoughts about running a full synthetic and which brand?

I’m leaking fuel from a plastic line connected below and to the right of the fuel filter. I took out fuel filter but can only get one hand by the leak. I’ve tried getting at it from underneath and can’t. I took the wheel well plastic guard off and there is no room. My only option that I see is cutting the metal out of the wheel well big enough to get my hands at the problem. Would there be an access through the fire wall I don’t see. I think I put my fuel gauge in the wrong place because it aways maxes out at thirty and never goes lower. Besides the fuel leak I’m worried about my injector pump because my truck aways started right away and now I have to crank it multiple t…

I have an automatic trans so what is the best way to hold the engine from spinning while loosening bolts on the dampner? Changing this weekend since the rubber is supposed to be even, flush to the steel. Mine is mushed out all around and wobbles when running.

Hi everyone, I need some help, I have a 2001 dodge 24v and I bought the Denso diode pack from the site store to replace the diode in mine. I knew I had a Denso so I bought it. However, I didn't know there were different models. Can I just modify my alternator body to fit the new diode pack? All the holes line up except where the lead comes out of the alternator. Or is there something possibly different between the 2 diode packs? The only real difference is where the lead comes out. The original it comes out of the side. Where the new one comes out of the back. here you can see the new one on top with the lead pointing up and the bottom…
