2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

It appears to be leaking from where the shaft (not pitnam arm) connects to gearbox. Since the truck has a lot of wandering, I figured I'd just replace the whole thing. Although I've found many reasonably price remanufactured ones, I've read that remanufactured boxes don't last long and some leak almost immediately. Any recommendations? This truck doesn't get driven much (4K in the last year and a half).

Hey all. I could use some advice regarding snow chains for my 2wd. We are going up to mammoth over Christmas and can either take my truck or my wife's highlander hybrid (also 2wd) which is front wheel drive. Both cars have highway tires, as we live in southern California. We will need to get chains one way or the other and was wondering which you guys think would be the smarter choice,so I can go ahead and order up. My truck is certainly more durable with my ranch hand bumper etc, but the highlander will have its weight over the front drive wheels vs the pickup bed, and it seems that having the chains in front might help a tad with steering and control. Tho…

  3. Thinking about installing large turn signals on towing mirrors, so the people that are beside your trailer, in the other lane and staying there forever...get a big clue to move. How hard do you think it would be to install turn signals on towing mirrors? Wiring. Just tap into wiring? Installing the signals...maybe a simple bracket? All ideas appreciated Thanks

I’ve just about on information overload In searching out this abs brake issue and trying not to parts change components until I find the problem, I do have rear brake abs along with rear drums, abs and brake light come on only after first full application of brakes and will stay on along with the spongy and week brakes, system will reset itself when I turn key off and then the cycle starts again the first time brakes are applied, they act like air in the system and it seems like I can gain a little by pumping but not much. I have not tried bleeding at the wheel because it seems if it’s leaking internally it wouldn’t do any good, It does not leak any fluid. The speedo work…

  5. A buddy found this for me, a second gen dually bed with fenders, tail gate and rear bumper. Bed was Rino lined, under side has very little rust at all. Came with the tail lights also but they were broken. I did scavenge the led bulbs though. So, truth. Was $400 a decent deal for this? Next, how to proceed, should I get the under side blasted to remove any rust then undercoat? Any other/better ideas? I'm in north west ohio so we do get salt snow and ice here. Want to do what I can to make it last before I think about swapping them. Check out the pics. Thanks! Oh, the bed also has aluminum diamond plate rail protectors and a camo tail gate c…

Anyone know the colors of wires I'm looking for? I'm hooking up a backup camera and a backup light on my canopy. What's the wire color going to the trailer plug that's reverse lights? Is there a better place to tap than the wires going to the trailer plug? Tap connector and liquid electrical tape to make the connection?

Hey Gang... I figured I would share my attempt at fixing my electric driver seat on my 1996 Dodge Ram. Now when I started the motor wouldn't even turn. So I verified the power was coming from the switch. Rock the switch one way you got power and rock it the other and power again but reversed polarity which is correct. No I grabbed a Allen socket and turned the motor a bit by had and it got loosen up. Then I can hit the switch and the motor turns for a short time binds up. (sigh) something is wrong in the gears. So after slowing ratching the motor around I was able to get the seat high enough to pull the 4 bolts in the seat bottom and just lay in the back seat are…

@BrokeAssPainter asked this question: I just changed out my right wheel hub assy, everything I'm finding online says tighten to 20ft/lb then back off quarter turn and then hand tighten......... Honestly that just doesn't sound like it's going to hold my front tire on seeing as how it's a 2wd with independent front suspension. Anyone care to chime in? I'd really appreciate someone saving me from a catastrophic failure lmao From the 2001 Dodge Ram FSM page 59, section 2-8 FRONT - 2WD TORQUE SPECIFICATION Hub Bearing HD 2500/3500: 280 Ft. Lbs.

I picked up a set of aftermarket sport headlights and built the harness from the info on this site. They work great except for the fact that I have started blowing headlight bulbs. I have been using Sylvania and Wagner bulbs. Are these brands just not heavy duty enough for the voltages directly off the battery's? Last week the low beam elements in the 9007 bulbs both burned out. I replaced them both and this week both high beam elements in the 9007 and 9004 on the passenger side went. I am about ready to go back to the OEM housings and just the 9004 bulb on each side. Only problem is that I tossed the old housings as they were in real bad shape. …

I am installing a set of gauges (EGT, Boost, Transmission Temp) and am not real sure where to hook to boost gauge in to the engine. Pictures or a video would be helpful if there are any available.I am getting ready to drill and tap the exhaust manifold for the EGT gauge tomorrow, so if anyone has a picture of where you drilled your hole in the manifold that would be great too.Thanks...

Hi Guys,This started about a week ago i was driving downt he road when i hit a significant bump. Immediately my truck started to shake, up and down, like it was bouncing down the road. I can to a stop and check out everything, i didnt see anything out of the ordinary so i went on my way. When i started rolling again the shake was gone. The episodes have been becoming more frequent it happened 2 today in a 10 mile drive. Has anyone one see this or ran into this? i took it to the shop today and they told me everything seemed tight. I am doing a brake job, first one since owning the truck, and in order to get the rotors off the front, I need to remove the Caliper bracket correct? I was having difficulties getting those 12pt bolts loose and looked up their torque specs at 210 ft/lbs! Is that correct and does anyone have and tricks you used to get those bolts off? It feels like my socket is going to break. Thanks for the help.

When I pull the IOD fuse I hear a click where the seat belt lock is. At that point the seat belt is locked. When I put the IOD fuse back in there's a click and then the belt is free. So in other words it takes power to keep the belt in the free position. Is that normal? Seems that would be a drain after a while. My truck usually only runs on weekends.

First off, thanks to Moparman and IBMobile's A/C troubleshooting tips. I'm not mechanically inclined, and A/C is a mystery to me, but after spending a good portion of the day reading, and watching videos I'm starting to understand. Some background - took to the shop, mechanic recharged and put dye in, A/C was good for ~1 month then started blowing warm. Took back, he couldnt find the leak, recharged with dye and kept it for a week, blowed for ~1 month, now it's warm again. I believe he used a Freon with leak patch. Since it's a time and money commitment to get it to him, I got a loaner Manifold gauge and Vacuum pump and set it up tonight. Wi…

  19. Ok Gang... I just got my replacement evaporator core from the local NAPA store. (Lifetime warranty - No cost) So when I go to pull the dash out I'm going to grab the video camera and record out the whole affair. Show you that pulling the dash is really easy on a Dodge Ram!

Noticed today that I have an almost screeching sound coming from the back of my truck, but the weird thing is it only does it consistently when I back up, only rarely when I go forward and it doesn't do it but for a split second. I notice though when reversing, it only does it under a load. Like if I am in the process of fully engaging the clutch, or when I'm in reverse and using the gas to go faster backwards, BUT if I hit the clutch while doing any of these it seems to stop, even if I'm still moving. I thought it was the pilot bearing but I jumped out to check and see if it was warm and it wasn't warm at all. I'm stumped here and its a horrific sound and I'd like to get…
