2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. Simple question about elec trouble shooting? I'm installing a elec low pressure gauge. Already installed for many years are trans, boost, and egt's. Batteries are disconnected. Looks like gauges are "daisy chained" together. IE wires for power and ground to gauges all tied together and then disappear under dash. I'm going to add the low fuel pressure gauge to them. Wire disappears up under dash where I can't see or tell where the wires grounded or where they are getting power. (Access for me right now is behind the headlight switch, whole dash is not pulled) Question...To find where power is coming from and what fuse....hook up a volt meter to gauge wire…

  3. Issue: The rear brakes on my 96' Ram 2500 4x4 will lock up when coming to a fairly hard stop and overall braking performance is poor. Details: The brake pedal will slowly sink to the floor when held down. I replaced the master cylinder last year and everything was working fine up until the rear brakes started locking up. Once they started locking up I noticed the pedal would slowly sink when held down. There are no leaks anywhere and the reservoir stays full. The rear brakes are properly adjusted, the shoes are not worn or contaminated with oil (no seal leaks), and the drums are smooth with minimal wear. The front brake pads and rotors are…

I have a aluminum flat bed. The problem is my filler line is almost level to the tank and when I fill up I to run the pump very so to fast or it shoots fuel out, seems like an hour to fill the truck, never mind the fuel on the shoes. Any ideas to relocate the filler in another place. I maybe could raise the bed up but I like it a the height it is Any ideas, doesn't seem like a lot of trucks have flatbeds. Photos would be great.....thanks

So I was having a fair bit of steering slip so I replaced my steering gear with a Napa reman box. It is now 2 times worse. My front end is literally falling apart. I can barely keep the truck on the road. Dry parked the truck at the shop and I need new tie rods, tie rod ends, track bar, etc. I can’t afford anything to high end such as Synergy but I’m thinking maybe Napa parts? https://www.1aauto.com/2000-02-dodge-steering-and-suspension-kit/i/1asfk03897?f=1084240&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIicKHjd2h3gIVxR6GCh35qw-yEAQYBiABEgJgxfD_BwE Also found ths kit from 1A Auto. Seems earful cheap though. Likely trashy parts? Here is a list of the parts…

Just a quick question. Finally getting my gauges in. Going to get my boost reading from the block plug behind the filter housing. My local hardware has the 3/4 to 1/8 bushing but only in galvanized. Wanted to make sure that was okay or if I needed to get a steel fitting.

For some reason when i use my blinkers if i leave them on at a stop light they will blink like they are supposed to then they will stick or stay on and stop blinking. I thought maybe a bad bull so i replaced them all and still having the same issue. My dad mentioned possibly the blinker switch on the steering column but i didn't want to tear into incase anybody else has had a similar issue with an easy fix.

Trying to find doors for these things is about damn impossible where I am without rust. I found a 1999 1500 ext cab with manual doors. Would these work in my 02 ext cab. I have my old panels and wiring still. Would the mirrors mountains be the same aswell?

Just bought a set of Timken front bearing assembly for a 2002 Ram (2WD). It's looking like 280 ft lbs of torque for the axle nut but I'm reading other specs anywhere from 180 lbs to over 300. Even the Timken web page says 280 but always to use the manufacture's specs (whatever that is?). So what the hell is it? I know they're damn tight but does anyone know the actual spec. Also, I take it with this type of sealed unit the torque is set and no backing off a quarter turn or something? Again this is a 2WD not 4WD.

I put marine grease in my grease gun to grease a clients water wheel bearings. Is it contaminated now so that I need to clean out my grease gun before using my regular BJ and tie rod grease? Any answers related to chicken grease will be disregarded . Thanks in advance

Last fall I broke a leaf spring mid pack in the spring pack on the drivers side. That spring pack according to the manual needs the tank dropped ugh. So I used a heavy duty rubber strap to hold it together and it has worked fine so far. Now the passenger side broke(I would take a dirt road over how bad these paved roads are) unfortunately that one was the last spring before overload and that pack is less than 5 years old(replaced this side once already). Any suggestions to temporarily fix? Or.... Can someone please recommend a quality source for a replacement set and any suggestions for ease of removing drivers side spring would be appreciated thanks.

I’ll be finishing up installing my remote trans cooler over the weekend and I’d like to trigger the fan relay with the OD switch on the shifter. Is this possible, and if so where is the best place to tap my trigger wire? @IBMobile posted a diagram a while ago showing the circuitry, wiring, and fuses between the PCM and the shifter button (switch) that command OD on/off but I don’t understand it well enough to start cutting wires yet. His diagram shows fuse #14 powers the OD on/off light, so can I tap it there? And where is fuse #14 actually located? I’d tap into the wiring from the on/off button on the shifter, but it’s a momentary switch so I don’t think I can do that w…

What’s going on guys? 01 4x4 230k auto. Juice hot/ exhaust and intake. Stock height with 315/75 16. problem started about a month ago, while driving I noticed my steering wheel started getting more and more off center while going straight. First about 45* right then 90* basically upside down and then a little more all to the right. Then my turning radius decreased significantly to the left. About 1 whole turn. Now all the power steering fluid puked out the top of the reservoir and it’s super bubbly. Truck off or on it’ll blow out the top of it. Trying to narrow down a specific component before just throwing parts at her. Any input is always appreciated. …

Hey Folks, Not sure what it is called, but the piece of foam in the front of the door jam. (my internet is too slow to run the parts catalog) Anyone replaced or repaired one of these when it fell out? Wondering i can use adhesive to put it back in place. My truck is already loud enough in the wind, not sure I want anything else to add to the sound. Thanks

I am working with my local stereo shop to map out installing a complete stereo system. Back in the day I was really big into car stereo systems. At one point right after high school my Toyota Celica (Early 1990's) had 8 12in sub, a pair of Orion HCCA amps, Zapco 18 band eq, etc....Needless to say it would rock and produce some db's..I think it measured 143db.Anyway, we already installed a pair of new 6x9's in the front doors...What a difference a quality speaker makes. I used the PR series from Memphis Car Audio. This coming week we will complete the speaker upgrade with some 6in in the quad doors. Future plans a downward fire box under the rear seat that hold 2 10in subs…

I replaced my compressor today. Been working fine at idle on the job. But drive at rpm for quarter mile and the cold air goes away. Pretty much figured the clutch was shot and slipping since the clutch could not keep up with engine rpm after a short drive. Never made any funny noises and worked fine parked. Took the old one off today and here is what it looked like. A touch off center don't you hink. Plus it was leaking some oil which that I attributed to the engine. Anyway I drained the oil from this one and got an oz and a half maybe. Wish there was a dipstick for situation.
