I have a 2001 2500 with roughly 345k, the cummins is well cared for but it requires a few things to address leaks. I'm going to explain what I'm doing and why and then ask for suggestions about other things to do/service before plowing season. This truck hasn't plowed in years but it will this year since the gas truck died once and for all (broken frame). Hydroboost rebuild, it leaks something terrible and I bought an all new seal kit to fix it. I also have a pressure line that seeps and is getting replaced. Front crank seal and sleeve, it leaks, it makes a mess while its running so its getting fixed. Turbocharger replacement. I have a large…

Been running here 2500 miles a month. Feeling like something's going to happen. Had something rattling and never found it then it stopped on own. I think the rear end. I allowed pinion nut to come loose it growled I thought transmission. Took it to my tranny builder I was going to yank it h ed insisted it wasn't a tranny noise. Do finally I found the pinion nut on the dana 80 was loos allowing the pinion gear to walk in and out of the ring gear eating itself. I'm going to run it till it goes then unfortunately caught up the money to buy a ring and pinion 3.55 gear set and rebuild it. In the mean time I'm driving the jetta around to…

Driving home today and my fuel pressure went to zero instantly. Been noticing fluctuations in pressure. Changed FF and WS a month or so ago and had same issue. Going to check it out tomorrow. Have also had an issue with losing pressure at half tank. Think the draw straw may have an issue so I plan on lifting the bed. Is it better to tip it from the cab end, leaving bolts loose in rear or tip it from driver's side leaving bolts loose in passenger side? Don't have help available to fully remove bed and tank was filled 40 miles ago so don't want to remove it.

so let me begin with this, this all started when i decided to install some DAP 75hp injectors, ( im pretty sure anyway) so awhile back, i posted something about my fuel filter canister leaking which was creating a fuel/air leak, i would surge at first startup. I replaced the canister, all seemed good since then, but i haven't really drove it that much since replacing it, ( I also after i installed the injectors the first time( wrong, i did it backwards and realized it after i got done talking to Mike,) went back through a second time and checked all the o-rings on the injectors, o-rings and crossover tubs, all checked out. still did the same thing after i put it all back …

Got my ducky 7x9's in the other weekend. Working on my tunes a little at a time. Seems as tho my fuel mileage has fell pretty bad. Now that I think about could my mileage have reset when I unhooked my batteries??? Anywho the lie o meter seems to think it's not to much worse than it was. I have finally made my self stop getting on it every time I get in the truck! I have put about 300 miles on it since putting um in so I don't have a lot of data on um. However I can cruise at about 65 and timing is 18.56ish. Egts are at around 660. Add more timing or just give it some time for me to adjust to the new power? Mainly will the odometer reset with batteries unplugged. That wi…

Installed a 0-30 psi gauge yesterday. I tapped into the filter housing; the '99 has two 1/8" pipe thread ports on the top of the filter bracket, inboard port is post-filter. I used Mike's recommended Weatherhead needle valve feeding into a tee; pressure line to one port, Kohler engine oil pressure switch (NAPA SME 2509927S) to the remaining port to activate a low pressure warning light. Good news is all works well. Bad news is low pressure (big surprise here,eh?); 10 psi engine not running, 7-8 psi engine idling, 5 psi around town & 65 mph cruise on highway.Solution is not all that clear. Presently the truck is stock, 173k miles, seems to run fine, no starting proble…

I though i would post up what I know about better fuel mileage thus far. Gearing and tire size have a lot to do with it as well as driving habits. there are many variables. My truck is a mainly stock 2nd gen 3500 dually with a 5 speed manual so I will speak to this truck in the post. others can add their tips pertaining to their setup as we go. I know some of you have tuners that make a huge difference but not all do. the Quadzilla adrenaline seems to be the go to for mileage and power among other things. That being said, here are some basic tips to get a bit more MPG's !. A well maintained engine. Change oil, a clean engine is more efficient, good fres…

In the quest for more power, Current plan is try to find a s480, not much luck, Thoughts of a supercharger always take top honors, even if just casue it looks cool. On the other forum with the superchargers, a previous setup he ran was triple turbos. Basically splitting primary turbo in half. More or less. What about using one of those 351 variable turbos parallel with my turbo. The vgt should spool quick get it going and then the bigger turbo will catch up, then the combined turbos would equal a big single that wouldnt normally be able to be streetable in a DD. Some high end cars have sequential turbos, but I am not sure if the other takes over completely or if they run …

The new 4k unit, does it also have the standard v2 version software in it so that I can choose not to use the 4k tunes and be a regular quadzilla? Is the 4k unit strictly a race unit? I want mpg but also when not towing to be able to create a good power tune. I still need to do studs but want to buy a quad and don't want to buy the standard one and then have everybody say "oh you bought the regular one bad choice" lol My revo paired with the TST3 is giving 17-21mpg but there is a tad amount of smoke that I think the quad could dial in a bit better.

I've been doing some shopping for an exhaust system but not sure what to get. I have a buddy with a 2nd gen 24 valve that built his own 5" and just put in a muffler from a big truck. Sounds really awesome but he complains about having a bad drone in the cab. Another friend has a 3rd gen with a 4" system (not sure what brand it is) and he complains about the drone too. The cab drone is my biggest concern since I do some fairly heavy pulling and I don't want to have to wear ear plugs:lol:

I've seen a million of these guage install forum posts and I hate to start another one but Im kind of partial to this forum and the diesel truck site forum. I have a boost guage, fuel pressure guage, trans temp guage and an EGT guage. Its going in my 98 24 valve (which isnt running yet because Im waiting for my VP44 and lift pump). Im just looking for pointers here and there. things to do and not to do...etc. Just little tricks that people have learned over the years - - - Updated - - - Thanks for your help stodge73...you always seem to pull through for me....lol

Well so far I'm pleased with the injectors. I've seen to have a very slight miss that is very very mild and rare to occur. But so far I'm enjoying the +2 MPG increase to the fuel mileage. I'm now able to touch 21 MPG with winterized fuel in Idaho... Never done that before... But I got to admit you must be careful with the new found power that comes with the injectors. On wet or icy pavement things can horribly wrong quick.

I swapped my stock injectors for a set of DAP 7x.013's last week. Checked the oil level before I started it up for the first time and it was midway between the lines on the dipstick. I ran the truck for a day and checked the oil again and it was about 3/8" above the top line. So I'm definitely getting fuel in the oil. I pulled the valve cover and ran it and saw nothing. It was a bit tough to get down to each injector and inspect closely because of the fan blowing in my eyes, but from out of the fan wash area, I couldn't see a thing leaking. I never had fuel in the oil before this, so it was definitely something related to the injector swap. Bad injector? Do I need to get …

Hi all. I am currently in the process of upgrading from the supposedly unsafe and shaft snapping hx40 to a larger charger. It is currently set at 45psi and I’m making somewhere in the 420-470hp range. I want to be around 600+. I have found a guy with a bunch of turbos that is going to build one for me to whatever specs I desire. So I am trying to figure out the single best turbo specs for my exact modifications to get me around that hp mark and still be somewhat driveable. All my previous mods should be listed below. Thanks for your responses.

we have had several discussions here about coolant temp here. i for one have had a problem keeping the temp up for quite a while. i have replaced t stats only to see them work for a short period. i finally replaced my radiator cap and that seemed to work. but about a month ago the same problem came back. i replaced the t stat again with one from napa. this one did nothing differant. on initial warm up the temp will go to 190 then drop down to about 165 and bounce around 165 and 175 in town or on the highway. it has been like that for a long time. i just installed my AD 165 and on initial start up it warms up to 190 and stays there just like it used to. what in the world w…
