Man this sucks I just finally got back to the fuse blowing problem on the trailer and found out what happened. Standing at the rear of the trailer the 3rd right center marker light decided to spit the plug and allow it to bounce around and melt the wiring out. Oh Great... My yard mule for trailer work.

Yesterday we took the old & abused Tahoe Transport Toy Hauler to an independent shop to have repairs done and a new rubber roof put on. There will be more on this but what's on my mind right now is how hard this trailer is to uncouple the WD hitch after use. I hate WD hitches but it is more than needed to keep the truck steering wheels in contact with the road to steer... kind of necessary... more so than lima beans! But I digress! I don't recall a brand on the ball socket... it's OEM, welded to the trailer tongue of course. I don't know if I've got a picture anywhere... I'll look. After the WD Torsion bars are released & removed, the safety hitch pin…

I was out getting the lawn mowed and wanted to mow around the trailers so while I had in the yard I shot a pic of my Tow Team.

I am wanting to set up my (new to me ) 05 to carry my slide in camper as well as pull a boat or trailer while I have the camper on.The class III hitch that comes with the vehicle won't handle the load of using an 48" extension to haul a 5-6k trailer load.So I am contimplating adding a new Class V hitch. Of course there are several to choose from but I do not have any previous experience in adding a Class V to a truck.Curt, Reese, Tork-Lift, etc., are a few I am looking at. I have used the Tork-lift camper tie downs on my 2nd gen and liked them real well and am planning to add them to my 05 as well. But the hitch is a new deal for me. Some of the hitches use a 2.5" exten…

I wish to put 2 new tires for my travel trailer. Current tires are 205-75-14. Load range b. Max inflation is 35 psi. I would like to get 2 new tires prior to hunting season. We travel about 20 miles of good gravel road. I am thinking of getting 2 195-75-14 load range D. They inflate to 65psi and have a load rating of 1,710# each. My trailer gross max weight is 7k. Question is, is it advisable to mix-n-match tires? I'd put one on each side. So I'll at least have 2 that I can count on. These are BFG-KO's. Only size available in 14". And within an inch overall diameter of the 205's. In all the years of off roading we've never had a failure with these tires.

I hate to tell on myself but this is to funny not to tell. i recently moved my 5th wheel from Augusta GA to Muscle Shoals AL. While sweeping off the roof before leaving I noticed my roof needs my attention. So I figure I can do it when I get set up in Alabama. i get there Saturday and and get pretty lazy and take the day off and pretty much sunday too. Bare in mind it rained on us so much in Georgia I really was not worried. Along about Wednesday it started raining here and I noticed a small drip at one of my roof vents. no big deal i will deal with it after the rain. Well it just rains harder and the leak gets worse and i end up with a 8 quat pot under it. Then I go up i…

After about 30 years of towing trailers and beating up tail gates and a couple of back windows and side mirrors knocked out over the years from rocks bouncing off the trailers on gravel roads I broke down this morning and bought a nice set of Rock tamer adjustable rock guards off amazon. I thought when I was pulling my dump trailer to the farm was going to lose another back window, had a couple hard hits and they made my wife jump a bit when she heard it too lol. A bit late in the game after having had a couple tail gates repainted over the years too but better late than never. I also noticed a couple dings on the front side of my pontoons to…

I found two china made off brand 7 pin female connectors won't hold the cord, readily falls out creating the dangerous chance of being rear ended. One is sold at Oreilly's Auto Parts and the other was sold at a local farm store near me. Beware of any brand not well known....... as I tested these two China made brands, I found the cord would fall out after simulating two bumps in the road, just two wiggles up and down and the lock lets go letting the cord fall out. They can kill you my friends. I finally went into Portland, which earlier I tried to avoid because of the many recent shootings, to a very good quality trailer supply and found both Bargman and Polla…

MAN! So today I got the trailer hooked up and took it out on the road! :ahhh:I can't back it up to save my life. :doh:I did better backing at our destination, but now I done a number on the grass...I planned the route taken to avoid many things, one of them being the bridges... Except when I got about 2/3, 3/4 the through the trip, it started POURING!It was quit the first trailering experience...My trailer is 8'8" wide. The tow mirrors don't get me planed out with the trailer. I can still see behind me, but not straight back...You can definitely tell it IS BACK THERE!I have learned too much in trip already...I estimate 305 horsies with my mods. Making a grade, it started …

I know there was some talk on here about the 45 watt Solar Panel kit that Harbor Freight sales. In the flyer I got in the mail they have a sale on these, with a coupon, for $ 140. Here is the kit http://www.harborfreight.com/45-watt-solar-panel-kit-68751-8527.html For those that have used it, do you still like it and thing it is worth the money?

Well I went looking at travel trailers today and I have found two different brands with the same floorplan and the same price... One is a Jayco SLX264 BHW the other is a Coachmen Catalina 26??? Same price same floorplan Jayco touts their 2 year bumper to bumper warranty and I think Coachmen may offer something similar. Does anyone have any thoughts about either, or toss a coin?

When ever I go to hook up, I have to wiggle the plug all around in the socket. Usually I get continuity... eventually... but sometimes not even after vigorius wiggling. I think it's just oxidation. Over the years I've tried various things like emory on a tiny file, bagging the plug between uses, etc. Has anybody found a solution? Maybe dielectric grease? I took the landscapers trailer out yesterday. Put new LED tail lights on last fall. And one side refused to work. I went out with a meter & now it's on. WTF? I'm guessing that all my wiggling PLUS the road vibration, finially broke through the oxidation. I have one bulb marker light yet to get…

I am currently sitting in the camper in my driveway and continue to be impressed by my Lifeline GPL-6CT's. We are staying in the camper right now because our hardwood floors are being redone. I don't like to let the batteries sit on the converter after they are charged so on Wednesday I turned off the battery switch. The battery volt meter is powered by the converter so it's still on and 48 hours after charging stopped my batteries are at 13.16V!! They aren't cheap but they do work really well!

Earlier this fall I finally had enough of the cheap fenders that came on my car hauler so I decided it was time for a new set. The stockers were cheap aluminum that would bend and break if you looked at them wrong so instead of buying new ones I decided to build a bullet proof set. Now I will admit these things are way overkill and didn't need to be built completely out of 1/4" plate but that's what I had so that's what I used. Out of gas in the wire feed on day one so I stitched them together with the stick welder. Fired up the wire feed and corner welded everything. Squaring up on the trailer. …

When my truck camper was built here locally 2O years ago the Honda gens had just been out for a bit so I had him make a bin left side rear to put it in .it ended up be a little high off the ground. But I was young and tall and it wasn’t a problem. Sometimes when I’m just by myself I just put on the floor passenger side. Or on the 4 wheeler trailer but when I have a passenger and no trailer I would like to have a hitch mounted basket to put it in. Basket on left side of hitch. I have folding stair that come down also. So I’m looking for a ready made setup that can be shipped or any ideas. Or I will have to go see a welder .pictures later of my camper rear. If I can…

I had torn out the panel under the tub so I could seal around the plumbing to keep the mice out. See earlier post: http://forum.mopar1973man.com/threads/3810-Rodent-Combat!! I wrecked the original panel, a vynal coating on about 2 plys of thin wood on a frame of 3/4 X 3/4 wood. After I finished closing up the plumbing access, I installed wood strips to screw to with the new panel. There is sat waiting for me to get back to it. Yesterday I did (finally) get the panel back in. The top has to tuck under the hook on the tub edge & I had to flex the wall some to get past the corner moulding to the left. I ran a row of screws along the floor into the strip I'd in…

I needed to replace the tires on my fiver so after researching tires (didn't want any "China Bombs") I decided to get Maxxis 8008 tires. The only problem is there are no dealers anywhere even remotely close. So, I let Google do the walking for me and found a place called Simple Tire that had the best price of $88.99 each plus shipping. I ordered four tires and once they got here I realized I screwed up and ordered the wrong tires. The tires I received had a capacity of 2150# and both axles weigh 8920#. I thought crap, this means I need to order the right ones and try to sell the wrong ones.... I was looking on Simple Tire's website for the right tires (cap 2540#) and they…

I'm not particularly fond of the RV dealer nor 'am I fond of the manufacturer. My rant goes out this time, to the manufacturer! Since my purchase of my NEW 5th wheel toyhauler, I have had many headaches that I should not have ever had to deal with this early in the game! I will be contacting them tomorrow and talking to their customer relations and at the very least giving them a piece of my mind about their QUALITY CONTROL. I have since had a slew of problems arise since my purchase of the trailer. I will name a few: - A hydraulic landing jack leaking - Awnings defective, BOTH, they need to be replaced. - Slideouts, panel no longer works to operate the…
