I would also second this, and take a look on the inside of the down pipe. Make sure your not leaking oil, because your asking for a run away if that happens!

My turbo looks like that when she needs an oil change.

like a turbo.

hard to see any issues in a picture.  more important is how much movement the compressor has in and out?

oily. Wipe off the blades and repost picture.

Running a BHAF the entire life or did this have another air filter on it?

I see just a touch of dirt damage on the leading edge of the blades, and the residue suggests a K&N has been used.

Like Nick says, how is the shaft play?  The compressor looks fine.

No movement in and out at all side to side just a small amount. I'll wipe her off and take another pic. The blades look good no pits or anything. I was wondering if if was to much oil or dirt or if it was normal.  Bhaf for the last 10,000 miles. Stock the rest of it's life.

If there is no play then I wouldn't be worried.  that's not bad for 200,000 miles

Alright good that's what I was wanting to hear. The oil residue is what had me a little concerned. Thank you all.

Seems a tad oily for running nothing but a factory filter and then a BHAF.  I would be curious to know how oily the inside of the intake horn tube is.  Might be an indication of a leaky shaft seal.

Might need to check it out. I'll clean the blades and see how the inside of the horn looks.

It is time for an oil change!

My turbo with BHAF, with 109k on it, looked like that also .  No play in and out or side to side.  I cleaned it off with brake cleaner and let air dry.

That's about what mine looked like when I replaced it.  I had about 225k miles and plenty of shaft play.  My seal was starting to leak as well.  I got a new replacement due to a cracked exhaust housing and a miscommunication between the rebuilder and his supplier.

No pictures here but after 458k miles mine still has no play in it. One thing that stuck with me after buying the truck and taking to one of the service techs was to let everything cooldown after a long pull or drive. Did not understand why at the time but it stuck in my head.

I let her cool down and warm up every time I drive it. No shaft play and no oil any where else. I think I'll just see how she looks now that it's cleaned up.

No current pics. But those turbo are dirty. Wow. I would pull the compressor housing and brake cleaner the entire thing. Need to wash that snail out.

Yes I honestly don't remember it being that dirty last time I had it off. 5,000 miles ago. I could just be mistaken and just paid more attention this time. I had one clamp that was a little loose that connects to the bhaf. But idk what else besides maybe a oil leak that could cause it to look so dirty.

If you don't have a rigid sleeve inserted into the BHAF (something for the clamp to squeeze against), then BHAF clamp will always be loose because the clamp is compressing and deforming the material on the BHAF outlet.  Dirt will likely enter here.

I modified a short piece of exhaust pipe to just under 4 inches in diameter (and 7 inches long to reduce intake  noise) to slip inside the BHAF

Dripley calls it the "BHAF muffler".

Idk why I didn't think about that. Thats a good idea with the exhaust. I'll have to put something together to fix that.

I just don't want to hurt my motor or the turbo if I can see the issue and get it fixed.
