  1. Your health needs to come first, income earning second and then somewhere down the list should be the website. I'd encourage you to get all your health issues in order (chemo/surgery/etc, whatever they have lined up for you) so that you feel good about that aspect of your life, then everything will fall into place as you have time and energy.
  2. You could do a facetime talk addressing topics in general (ex: timing, turbo selection, injectors etc) with multiple participants or one on one consulting for vehicle specific issues/tuning etc.
  3. Wow, what a Christmas gift your body has given you. You're in my prayers and hopefully the wisdom of the doc's will find a long term cure/solution to this. Get better soon Mike!
  4. Do some research before buying a VP. It seems like there are very few shops with the test equipment needed to do a fool proof rebuild. I only have 85k on my '01 and I'm wondering what big ticket item will fail first and when it does, I'm sure it will be based on the age of the rig and not the miles . I'm hoping the VP holds out for many more years
  5. If you're pulling the valve cover, you might as well do the injectors as they have to be WAY out of spec with that many original miles. If your content with "stockish" power (no desire for bigger turbo/tuner etc), it would be a great time to upgrade those injectors to RV275's. They are real close to the cost of stock injectors but will give you a bit of a bump in power with no need for other upgrades. Check DAP for some Rv275'/50hp injectors as they have decent prices and really good injectors. Its also a great time to pull the turbo and spend about 75.00 on a rebuild kit. There are a few decent youtube videos showing how its done.
  6. I had recently received a DAP map sensor that I had ordered so I swapped that out tonight. On the Quad display, the factory /original map sensor read 54 at idle and up to 56 when accelerating. After installing the new map sensor, idle boost was reading 35 and went up to 39 when accelerating. The truck seems like it has a lot more power than it did prior, is that because it was defueling based on the 54psi reading? Mike, I'm running either your eco or tow tune here, is there anything within your turn that would have been affected with the boost indicating that high? So the boost reading 35 at idle is obviously not correct, what do I check into next? I'll try pulling the map sensor plug and see what that does for the surging.
  7. Can I just unplug the Quad module or do I have to unhook all the Quad wiring at the engine and restore to factory?
  8. I just made a run from northern CA to southern Oregon. All was good on the way up but on the way back I noticed some surging, especially when at light throttle on flat road or off the throttle going down hill (coasting but still running 2000 rpm) . I switched tunes from my MoparMan mileage tune to the tow tune and no difference. I also hit the overdrive button and no difference. Fuel pressure was always 15lbs or more. By the time I got home I had a check engine light and it was 0236, Map sensor. I have cleared the codes numerous times and I might get away with driving a hundred miles or so with no code but the surging continues. A day or so later, the code comes back. I don't have boost shown in the Quad display since I have a separate boost gauge directly off of the intake elbow. I can't remember, does the Quad boost value come from a fitting I don't have installed in the intake/head or off the computer data? Any help before I start replacing parts! I read somewhere that the Quad has some known boost value issues and some guys run a separate boost fooler connected to the stock wiring harness and disconnect the Quad completely from the map sensor circuit, is this a way to start troubleshooting? Thanks!
  9. Illegals make for future liberal voters is my guess. If you're a political party big on promoting "dependance on the govt for programs" which then needs high taxes to pay for the "dependance", why not get a bunch of illegals to be the recipients of the tax payers money ? Back in 2012 I was the leader of our teachers union group (CTA). We had such poor service from CTA that we voted ourselves out and formed an independent association. We were also tired of the ever increasing dues with no service. You talk about a cat fight, CTA slandered me to no end and my name was mentioned in a New York Times article! It was the best move we ever made! At that time, CA liberal Diane Feinstein (or was it Pelosi?) was quoted saying that illegals were a big issue in state finance and that the average "head of household" in CA paid over 1100.00/yr in taxes for services to illegals. In 2012 my wife was working part time and making about 1200.00/month so she was working one month a year for services to illegals! How is that right! ?????? I'm not against people from other countries coming here but there is a process to become a citizen, so follow the process, just like my ancestors did over 100 yrs ago.
  10. I'm working on the truck in my sig. After installing all my upgrades last fall (pac brake, hx 35/40, 100 hp injectors, quad unit), I haven't been able to get over about 25lbs of boost even with the set screw in the boost elbow turned all the way in. Today I put a vice grip on the hose and saw a bit over 30ps of boost on a full throttle acceleration. Where in the adj process do I check the actual wastegate actuator setting/position? Its possible correct, to maybe need to adjust the length of the actuator rod? Also, I bought the manual boost controller shown by Mike in another post and have yet to install it. Mike, the red end goes towards the elbow correct?
  11. I've slowly been buying parts for my '01 but never seem to have the time to do the install. I work in AK during the summer and run a commercial fishing boat but had to return after just two weeks due to some health issues my wife was having. Since I was now home (first summer in 19yrs and boy is it HOT in Chico CA during the summer, 108 +/- often), I figured I'd take the time do get some parts replaced, starting with some 3.73 gears. My buddy who is a former GM tech was in between jobs so I hired him to help with gear set install. Well, the Motive D70 3.73 gear set did NOT fit my trucks carrier as we could hardly get a pattern in the paint as the ring gear and pinion were so far apart. We kept adding pinion shims and ended up with the end of the pinion about half way buried in the pinion nut, not good! I checked online and a few places had some Spicer gear sets on sale for 68.00!!!! These were D70 sets with 5/8" offset which is what is needed in Dodge D70 ( don't buy the standard set like some shops will tell you that you need). I paid an extra 30.00 for two day shipping and ended up with the gears a full 7 days later. Just Differentials screwed the pooch on that purchase! While I waited the 7 days for the gears to arrive (and missed a camping trip with friends since I had no truck to drive), I started installing the numerous parts I had piled up. I added a catch can under the front cross member and used a heater hose repair kit to attach the new section of hose to the factory original hose. I've only got 80k on my truck with no blow by so I think this single can will suffice with no gasket issues as some guys have seen. I had also purchased 17" rims a year or two ago in anticipation of upgrading the brakes to 3rd Gen units. I got those swapped out at all four corners and replaced the ball joints for good measure. Wow, drilling those ball joints is a pain in the a$$! I couldn't get the lowers drilled out so opted to order new Moog units from Rock Auto and hey, I was waiting on the gear set so had PLENTY of time! I added Monroe Reflex shocks and some coil spring spacers. The spacer kit for the 2wd is a Daystar unit. It just has two plastic spacers that go on the top of your coil spring. Since you have the steering knuckle off due to the ball joint/control arm replacement, its easy to pull the springs and add the spacer. You do NOT need a compression tool to do this, at least on the 2 wd vehicle. My rig has the factory tow and camper package along with Firestone air bags and the front of the truck sat way too low for my liking. Before the install I measured 34" to the bottom of the plastic wheel well trim and after installing the 1 1/2" spacers I now measure 37"! What the heck?????? I suppose they will settle down a bit but 3" out of a 1 1/2" spacer seems odd. The ride with the spacers seems no different than before. I also removed the factory trans cooler and hard lines. I went with a Tru Cool 40k unit and mounted it across the front of the cooling stack. I'd have liked to have seen it in place where the old cooler was but its just too big to fit there without interference. I bought hose and fittings from the local hyd shop and the total cost on those items were right at 110.00. I can't comment on cooling difference from old cooler to new as I also relocated my temp sensor from the trans output line to the port in my Derale deep pan. I have 32" tires and wanted to gain back some of the gearing loss due to the taller tires. I realize going from 3.55 to 3.73 is not much difference but I can run 32-33" tires and keep near stock gear ratio. I see a 125rpm increase at 70mph, going from 1900 rpm to 2025 +/-. I have a PacBrake unit that I've been fighting a leak on for about a year now so my next task is to find the dang leak so my compressor is not constantly running (I remove the fuse for normal around town driving to keep the thing from cycling on/off constantly).
  12. 5akman posted a topic in Quadzilla Power
How do you data log with the Quad? I'm going to be doing some towing and would like to get some data so Mike can fine tune my tune.
  13. I've been running B20 in my rig and the engine seems much quieter but I lost 1.0+ mpg vs either straight diesel with/without additive. I'll gladly take the quieter ride!
  14. I checked the mileage on this first tank of bio and it was 16.4 mpg which is right at 1.0 mpg less than straight diesel or with 2 stroke added. I've done this 50 mile round trip highway commute for 29 yrs now and feel like the drive is as consistent as it can be so 16 it is! I have Mike's Economy tune to get loaded on my Quad as soon as I can find time to get my extended harness Quad unit completely installed.
  15. Missed that info in the prior post, thanks
  16. What brand Anti Gel do you use with the 20% bio?
  17. Three times in the last year the key fob has temporarily stranded me. Once in my driveway, twice at stores including just today when the engine would spin and start for a few seconds then die. As I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was wrong I remembered the key fob and clicked the locks closed/open and it started right up. I don't understand the relationship between fob/running but if my only 2nd gen worry in life is the fob, I'm good with that!
  18. would something like one of the OptiLube products help with the anti gel (not sure if they do anything for this issue) or do they raise the btu's to help negate the lower power in the bio fuel?
  19. I have been running either 2 stroke or OptiLube in my rig. I have a 50 mile round trip work commute at highway speeds (65mph) and I almost always have some "diesel rattle", sometimes more noticeable than not. Yesterday I forgot to get some additive out of the garage so when I filled up, I had nothing to add to the tank so I pumped 30 gals of B20. I noticed within about 25 minutes, a huge decrease in engine noise. And again this morning on the way to work, it was so much quieter. I can't believe bio does a better job at lubrication/noise reduction than 2 stroke does. Has anyone else noticed this? Is long term bio use aok? Any advantage to bio and something like Optilube combined? I get 17mpg with either additive while driving 65+mph. I do have the Quad Adr in the cab but have not finished wiring it up yet and I purchased Mike's econo tune a few months ago also. I'm hoping that with the tune, I can break 20mpg. Will the bio help or hinder the fuel mileage?
  20. So does this LX unit provide more diagnostic info than the Quad does? I realize that the Quad is primarily a tuner..
  21. Nice, clean truck! Have you done any upgrades to the tranny?
  22. My wife and I are both public school teachers in CA. We each have right around 30 yrs in and can see the light at the end of the tunnel in another year or so. There is no way in the world we'd recommend anyone going into public education in todays society. Even though we're in CA, we live in the north part of the state and the "wokeness" isn't quite so bad up here but the quality of the students we're getting is terrible. While we still have GREAT students, the percentage of those per class is declining. Instead they are getting replaced by students who are either "damaged (for lack of a better word)" due to horrible home lives or they come from the "gimmee" generation where they think they can do nothing in class, can be disrespectful beyond description but then still expect a decent grade (can someone say "participation trophy"?). Then their parents come in and try to blame their disfunction on the school system! I'm looking forward to retiring in 1-2 years and am working on offering wood/metal/blacksmithing classes out of my home shop to the local charter school after I retire. I can't wait to get some decent, fully functional students in front of me to work with for a change!
  23. Dang, do you know if there is a plan to make them available in the future? The price was right and the tunes were very well set up from what I heard. Sure wish I'd bought the other two I was planning on getting.......
  24. I went to purchase a tune or two and don't see many of them listed like I did a few weeks ago. Are they no longer available? I was needing a tow tune and emissions tune. Thanks, Lance
  25. So you originally had a HX 35/40 didn't you ? The bearings went out or something if I remember correctly. I would think you'd notice a big difference going back to the stock sized HX, is that not the case?
